Alvaro Morata

We're possibly going to play with 2 strikers, no way is Costa, Batshuayi, Traore and Abraham good enough if we are.  We'd basically be one injury/suspension from Abraham being the first off the bench.

Traore needs to be 4th on the list, not 3rd.

Wouldn't mind Pelle as a third choice.

Maybe it's just me, but I just don't understand the hype that surrounds him and the asking price is just ridiculous.

If we're looking for another striker, I'd prefer to look elsewhere to be honest.

I think the price tagged to Morata may be the result of the €20m penalty Real Madrid have received for receiving illegal subsidies. They will probably appeal, but they'll need to introduce those €20m in their accounts, and Morata's price could be used to cover some of that deficit. But this is just my speculation.

Even taking that 20mil out, 40mil is still way to much for him

Crazy prices, we can't go for it. We have Costa, Batshuayi, Traore - what's wrong with that?

I think Morata is good striker, he suits to every team, but I won't pay more than 25m for him.

This is where lack of ambition is sensed. City once had Aguero, Tevez, Dzeko as strikers.

We won the league with Costa, a cooked Drogba and Remy with Champions League fixtures.

We need to fix our sh*t midfield and defence before we blow 75m on some overrated striker with a poor goal scoring record.

I think people need to look a little deeper into his goalscoring stats.

There are some caveats:

1) He has come off the bench a lot for Real and for Juventus. If you look at his goals per minute in the past three seasons (in the league and Champions League) it comes to around a goal every 154 minutes; roughly a goal per game-and-a-half. That doesn't sound too bad at all; for reference that's actually better than Diego Costa's goals-per-minute rate at Chelsea.

2) He has pretty much always been played next to a more 'pure' goalscorer. At Juventus he played with Dybala and Tevez; at Real with Cronaldo/Benzema. To put that in context, he also has 14 assists over the last two seasons.

If one is to do research into a player to the extent that they feel comfortable completely dismissing him as a potentially good signing, it might be worth looking a little further than Wikipedia... or you know, actually watching him play. If we could actually get him for £40m he would be an absolute steal.

Fabregas, Willian, Ramires, Matic: sh*t?

problem is, we won't. if rumours are to be believed, Real just rejected a 60 mil euro offer from us

Coming off the bench to score a goal against tired defenses is a lot different to scoring goals against teams you are starting against though. It doesn't matter how this is dressed up, he hasn't done anywhere near enough to justify the prices been talked about, for those prices you want someone who has a proven goalscoring record. Morata isn't the only player out there who comes off the bench and scores a decent amount of goals but you don't see them being priced between £40-£60 million. Remy had a pretty good goal ratio coming off the bench for us, but that doesn't mean he was worth £40-£60 million. I would also never say £40 million is a steal, the price we got Azpilicueta for is a steal.

If he comes here, i would love to be proven wrong, but from what i have seen of him he doesn't look anywhere close to being worth £40-£60 million.

At the end of the day, we are in a position where we have to overpay for a level of player we hope can step it up next season.

Morata has proved he can score goals in big games, we are then paying for potential that he will develop into a more regular goalscorer in England.

We can't attract aubemayang, I'm not sure why there are still post suggesting we could sign tbh. Even if we agreed a price with dortmund, there would teams willing to match it and offer him champions league football, not to mention the fact he would probably prefer to stay at dortmund.

I don't think there are any top players available that definitely justify the price tag, reportedly we were also interested in gabriel from Santos, who would have been a gamble for big money as well.

If conte wants morata and he sees him as integral to his plans, I hope we do whatever we can to sign him. Let the board worry about the finances.

would be very happy if we dont get him, his value is what madrid paid to get him back maybe even upto 30-35m top end, check his goal returns besides a productive season in the spanish second tier he hasnt managed more than 10 in a season and I see know reason why that would change in our league, at 70m euros we have dodged a bullet to be frank.

So if it's true that he's set to stay in Madrid who do we turn to?

I think it's clear we've got at least £40mil to spend and need a striker. Actually struggling to think of realistic options...

It was widely reported in Spain and UK that Madrid rejected a 51 million pounds offer from us and in fact they want to get 64 million for him, I really hope we are not that stupid and fund Madrid for Pogba. As much as I would love to see Morata at Chelsea £64 million is just an insane price, the player is not worth even 40 million. We got Costa, a proven goalscorer for £32 million !
