Chelsea are/were definitely interested in Romelu Lukaku, but don't/didn't want to pay the £65m asking price.

My feeling is still the same. We were silly to let him leave. We'd be silly to buy him back.

I will bet my entire earnings for a year that the real reason he is staying is our people have told his reps we aren't paying the fee, meaning staying at Everton is his only option.

 

Infact i am 100% certain that's the reason.  And the Conte quote  "we are being asked £55m for medium players" or words to that effect, are aimed at Everton.

 

Pretty special on grand old team, seen one of their lot claim only Aguero is better than Rom in the prem.  ROFL

I'm genuinely so relived that he's staying with them.

For that money I would want a Griezmann, not a Lukaku.

I'm actually glad we didn't sign him in the end...not that I didn't want him back, but not for the money talked about and I fear he wouldn't have been able to cope with the fee and expectations that came with it...id rather give Batshuayi a run in the side...the question is who will be back up for Costa and Batshuayi, especially now we have loaned out Traore...and Remy doesn't seem to be in the picture either

Personally, I'm okay with Remy staying, (when he's on the pitch, he's always likely to get a goal - just unfit or injured far too often), but he isn't in the picture, like you say.

Mandzukic being linked. Not too bad. A proper poacher who'll make those predatory runs that Costa seems to avoid. Tall, with aerial threat and good work rate.

Would be nice to see some English players who could play important roles for the team (not just untrusted youth or aging veterans) linked.

As I have felt all along, and as the Everton lad on here said: There have never been any actual quotes about this.  I think it has all been pure conjecture.

 

Lukaku has at least stated he wants to play CL football:  good on him, it is something all top players should aspire too.

Atletico go back and forth about how they are wanting to bring Costa back.  Think Conte has convinced Diego to stay another year,

So, in the middle of all that, some Journo came up with a rumour and it grew into this.

I don't think we were ever seriously interested, and as stated for that money we could look at other options: Mandzukic, Icardi, Lacazette, hell even Griezmann

 

Until I hear anything concrete I always remain skeptical. 

I don't think I have a more uncertain opinion on a player as I do on Lukaku.

Never wanted us to get rid of him but at the time, £28M seemed pretty good business. Throughout his whole career to date he looks unplayable one game and completely rubbish the next. Actually change that, he can look like two different players in ONE GAME. Watched some of the 1st half last night and he looked average. Wake up this morning to find out he scores a second half hat-trick to win Everton the game (although it sounds like our old friend Djilobodji can take some credit for the outcome!)

He's still only 23 and there is no doubt that when he does move from Everton, they will get a massive return on their original outlay. Guess I'm saying I'm still undecided on Lukaku. I'd have him back as an option for around £40m but prices of £60M + - no thanks.

He didn't, but even if you will replace him with Messi/Lewandowski/Suarez - they won't do anything as well. The way we played today, strikers can't do nothing.

But he is only 23 and will get around the 20 goal mark a season. This season he is on well on course to do same and yesterday, while he was virtually invisible, we dominated them so much there was no creativity for him to be supplied for any chances.

Everton could've had Suarez up top against us and he still would've been anonymous.

I disagree, Suarez would have dogged our defenders all game giving them no time, lukaku wandered about and never put our defenders under pressure, he was a disgrace yesterday.

I wouldnt say lukaku was a disgrace yesterday, he relies heavily on good service, and everton never really got out their half. 

Suarez wouldve put our defenders under more pressure, because he is an absolute workhorse as well as being one of the best players in the world. 

2 different  players, in 2 different parts of their careers. 

Disgrace in the way he just basically wandered around not even attempting to pressure our defenders.

I think Lukaku is one of those players that only plays well when the team does. I don't think he steps up enough and wins games. He'a not fit to lace Costa's boots.
