Pretty happy tbh.

Had heard of Rudiger for a few years now so he must be decent, and he's probably better than Ake.

Dont get me wrong I am gutted he left, but Ake now plays for Bournemouth. How would you feel if Bournemouth signed Rudiger?

He's not going to add value at the top end but adds depth. VVD is a pipe dream as is Bonucci. Happy with what he and Andreas will add.



It's clear conte wanted him from italy last summer and we would've had him but for his injury.

A decent, good value signing imo. Also he has 20 ish caps for Germany, I think he's ahead of ake at the moment.

If our back 5 has the following options come August I'd be delighted:

Moses, Dave, Rudiger, Cahill, Luiz, Andreas, Alonso, Sandro (Aina for HG?)

He is 24 career been on hold with a blown ACL if we keep him fully fit he honestly has potential to be a top player, it's a decent signing don't think it improves us much straight away but gives good cover can play in all 3 positions in a back 3 and a potential very good CB in the next year or two once the injury is long behind him. We need Sandro now that we went a bit bellow the standard we wanted for a CB, still as I said good player good signing, however Roma paid 7.5 million for him last year so they have yanked us a bit. If you're a half glass full this is our cover now we go for a VVD or koulibaly and we don't look as desperate might not get squeezed so much

The stingy part is absolutely correct.

As I mentioned before, don't expect the club to spend more than 40 million pounds on any single player.  

This is a meh signing and doesn't improve the first team in the least.

Might as well have kept Ake and try Christensen if the board refuses to sanction any purchase of a top class centre-half i.e. big transfer fee.

However, if this is indeed Conte's choice, I will to respect his decision.

I've been impressed from what I've seen of him in the confed cup so far, strong, quick, versatile, comfortable with the ball at his feet and playing from the back and at 24 should only get better.

 

Sure he's not the big name everyone was hoping but I trust in Conte's judgement 100%

I think we should have done both of those in addition to this. Competition breeds excellence and having all three would make us better but Rudiger is a an upgrade right now over Ake and I think he will make Cahill redundant in combination with Christensen.

Not really. It feels underwhelming because not many rates him. I think he's good enough, at 24 still has plenty of room for improvement

I'd be very surprised if we dont break our own transfer fee record in the next 2 months.



    Personally I think the stance the board take in requiring good value for money with signings is very sensible.

    In housing terms, if you wanted to buy a £200K house, why would you pay £400K, just because that is what the vendor is asking for, and because they know you have money ?

     

    History has shown that there are plenty of good players out there who don't require massive fees to be paid. VVD from Celtic to Southampton. Mahrez, even Kante to us ...

    The onus is on the scouting teams to find them !

     

    I wouldn't be surprised if the club privately love all the media links with "name" expensive players, while they work diligently behind the scenes to secure under the radar targets.

     

    If Mr Rudiger is announced today, then good luck to him. Full 16-cap German international at age 24 can't be too bad ? His vocal stance on racism in Italian football suggests he has some leadership qualities as well.

    Interesting signing that adds depth across the backline. I sincerely hope this is a Conte signing as we have been linked with him for three years previously.

    One thing I hope He doesn't bring with him is antics the other evening against Mexico when he got felled by the slightest push to the chest.I was thinking he was a w**ker then and then we sign him.

    Childish antics don't disappear tho, look at Costa. What I do hope is he tones it down or else it won't be long before the media slates him for even the smallest thing

    Well we sold Ake for 20 million, freed up JT's wages so really it's not a big outlay on someone who is clearly a improvement on both plus possibly zouma who could be out on loan. 

    At 24 and capped 16 times by the world champions its not as bad as some folk on here are making it out to be. We had interest in him before so he's been a clear target of ours so it's not a last ditch random signing at all. 

    We have brought in well over 100 million in the past 2 seasons from sales so the fee shouldn't be important especially when guys like Keane from Burnley are going for around the same price.

    I know the feeling mate, I suspect people would be more content if we spent 60m on Rudiger instead.

    This isn't fifa career mode, i'd like to know the full stats on the top clubs and success% when it come to plan A's, outside of the big two in Spain i can't imagine the number is particularly high.
