Barkley

I may be crazy but looking at barkley now isn't too dissimilar to looking at moussa dembelle 6 years ago. And look at how much we crave a dembelle now. He has the attributes to be a very good box to box midfielder who can also cover the rf role. He is probably the English player that I would prefer. Him and oxlade chamberlain could be 2 very good signings.

But Dembele was always a very good central midfielder just that his application and work rate was questionable. Hazard even dubbed him the midfield king at 1 point.

Barkley on the other hand had always played better as a no. 10 and his footballing IQ isn't all that great tbh for someone who plays in that role. Tbf I've not watched a lot of Everton and I don't think I've seen him play CM before

I meant before he was converted to cm, when he came to England he was an average winger attacking midfielder, Fulham then started playing him in cm

Ah, ok.

Btw, if the option is him or Drinkwater, then I'd pick him

If I had to choose between Barkley and Drinkwater, I'd go barkley, but I think we'll end up with Drinkwater, the links to him seem to be a bit louder.

I know its your opinion, but honestly WHY?

we have hazard, willian, Pedro, one of our best youth talents in musonda and Boga to play the 2 LF/RF spots. Moreovere Cesc is more suited for the RF/LF position than the CM position. Drinkwater can provide decent back up to CM position. Barkley would be as good a CM as Rooney got to be for United. I would rather Luiz play there than have barkley tackling late and getting red carded.

They have put a 35 mil price tag on him, worth a punt for me

Tottenham still aren't interested at that price...to be fair with only 12 months left on his contract and him being unwanted by his club, he's only worth £20m tops...he'll probably go right at the end of the transfer window when Eversh*te's desparation is at its highest...

Barkley > Drinkwater for sure. Atleast Barkley was top talent and he is only 23, when Drinkwater is proven average bang player, who is 27.

And they would have completely different roles. If we are interested in a player like Drinkwater, Barkley would never be an alternative. With that said, Barkley is also bang average. Hasnt improved over the last 3 years, and isnt likely to improve any further. Pass

in drinkwater's defence, he was one of the best players along with mahrez, vardy and kante in their title winning season. what has barkley been apart of? the guy is overhyped, unproven, and really is inconsistent. i wouldn't pass on baker for him. also, like many young english players he is likely entitled and wouldn't wanna sit on the bench as a back up.

Why does everyone keep saying they prefer him to Drinkwater as if it's either/or.

Barkley would be perfectly suited to the floating AM roles we have, Drinkwater to the defensive CM role.

Chalk and cheese.

To be honest if conte wants both I hope we sign both. As ever I hope we do all we can to sign who he wants so our manager can win or fail based on his own merits. No doubting both can be bought if we are willing to pay what their clubs want. This is not pie in the sky transfer targets like Sandro.

It's a driving midfielder like naingolan we need.

We are getting pressed bringing the ball out from defense. Willian gets it under real pressure and isn't getting a chance to turn and run. A. Fab replacement could do that. Has to be very safe on the ball, and super energetic.

Something Nainggolan isnt. The player you describe isnt someone we can realistically get. At least not this late in the window. Its kiterally only a handfull players iut there who have great passing ability and at the same time very high energy levels. Verrati, to a lesser degree Pogba, Modric and Vidal. Thats it really

Jean Seri is available for €40m

Jean Seri is absolutely brilliant BTW, what Nice did this season is in great part due to him.

Unfortunately Barca are well ahead of us and already looking like completing a deal soon.

Jean Seri would be a great choice and at €40m not too difficult for us to compete in getting him. If we went in big straight away then he could really work out for us, along with Kante. That would certainly give us a powerful midfield.

Then I would take Wylan Cyprien, from what I've seen of him, he's equally as impressive, just got an unfortunate injury towards the end of last season.

I agree and said almost the exact same a couple of weeks ago. I can see it in him. My worry is that Pochettino sees it too and he'll end up there.

Barkely, ox or drinkwater , Bertrand, vvd and llorente. 5 signings that would make many weep on here if signed as our sights should be set so much higher. However, providing Dave or rudiger can play rwb well, or if we put ox there,  it would cover our squad with pl proven players that, for the first four, conte can probably improve a bit as well. At the right price I do not doubt they can be got.

Now sure Sandro would be way better than Bertrand, verratti better than ox or drinkwater, etc but are they obtainable or pie in the sky deals that leave us chasing our tales on deadline day?
