November 8, 20178 yr The more I watch that Phil Jones incident the more I think it's ridiculous how it wasn't given. Just listen to the MOTD commentator during the match, when Morata collides with Jones who is clearly going for the ball Alonso whipped in the commentator says "Well there was a push on the back" Now go look at that 'push' and see what really made Jones fall, he's a crap defender who always makes mistakes like that, he has no technical ability he trips over his own feet. Now listen to the MOTD commentator shortly after when Smalling pushes Morata in the back inside the box causing Morata to fall over, he says "Well it is a contact sport" so? I understand he isn't directly picking sides but look at the angle the 'neutrals' have got people looking on, a defender gets the benefit of the doubt just because, a striker has to look really badly pushed in order to get a foul in the box. If that was a foul on Jones then that's a penalty on Morata, it's as simple as that, look at both incidents. There is no way at all that Phil Jones own goal is a foul, that's on Phil Jones, it wasn't even a difficult ball, the ball literally came to the middle of his feet, he's not leaping towards it, he's all over the place and kicks it in the net. A defender must get contact it's a "contact sport" but a striker has to stand still and not go for the ball you see. If we never won this game I would hope this would be a talking point on MOTD. Wenger isn't even wrong, the officiating gets worse every year. I'm just so glad we won the game, otherwise, this would be talked about a lot more, and Anthony Taylor's long supported Manchester United family...
November 8, 20178 yr It amazes me how Phil Jones can still get games for a massive club like United. He really is a comedy footballer. f**k me, we moan about Cahill - imagine having that clown in our defence!!

And Chris Smalling, he can only keep up with defenders when he's grabbing their shirt, look how much he's been doing it this season. Referee's really need to do their homework.
November 8, 20178 yr Jose's post game interview was hilarious, claiming we scored at the only period that we dominated and that the game was equal. He should be grateful this wasn't another 3-0,4-0 win.

He likes to control the narrative, as soon as the match ended i knew he would use the first 10 and last 5 to make it look like they played better than they did. He did the same in the FA Cup game, they started bright for the first 10 minutes but we grew into the game and had 3 big chances to take the lead before Herrera got sent off, but Jose tried to pass the first 10 minutes as the game before Herrera got sent off His worst one tho was with us, when we got smashed 3-0 at City he called the result fake because of Rami's disallowed goal, while not acknowledging if it weren't for Begovic in the first half hour we would have re enacted Brazil vs Germany. November 8, 20178 yr @Slojo Jones is a clumsy player and Smalling is way too grabby for me. He grabs the shirt of everyone he's "marking". He even climbed on Courtois during one of their corners. Yet, they escape criticism because they're England's current top 5 CB and plays for Manchester United. Great innit.

The little sh*t has been getting away with it for years, he physically cannot defend a set piece without grabbing someone's shirt. It's beyond me how he's never conceded a penalty, he's worse than Carvalho was. On the 3rd image when he did that to Ivanovic on the set piece in the box, I remember Rojo did the exact same to Terry at the same time and neither were penalties. Mourinho went nuts on the sideline, two deserved penalties simultaneously and not one call. United will always go down as the luckiest team to ever grace the PL.

I've always thought he was grabby but not to the extent of the images here. The guy gets away with practically undressing Pelle. It's schoolboy stuff from a professional and the fact that refs still don't catch him on this is seriously wrong when Costa is marked by the refs after half a season.

Ohh come'on mate.....it has almost nothing to do with luck. When it keeps happening all the time then something else is wrong. Do people really still believe its a coincidence the likes of utd can do what they want, yet we cant even look at our opponent and bang it goes against us. Utd are one of the darlings in the eyes of FA, media etc.........we the enemy. As you said, where is the credit for conte? Or the way we dominated them? Reverse the Picture.......you'll see hard-ons all over the media and the so called pundits.

Reverse the Picture.......you'll see hard-ons all over the media and the so called pundits. That's because of how many United pundits there are, I love Gary Neville actually but he does always protect United. He was explaining how Jose went offensive but couldn't, will never scrutinise the money they've spent and the bad results. Only Carragher has been digging them like that, Souness is similar despite being a Liverpool fan, he even defended the Phil Jones decision. The BBC is much worse however. If it's Chelsea who is there to protect us? Nobody has a bias to give us the benefit of the doubt or go into detail, they'll just assume the best or worst. Liverpool, Arsenal & United are the most protected clubs in the league because of how many pundits they have, we might be like that one day once our stars are retired and on panels. And when we have so many sports journalists who supported our club as a child, look how many sports journalists supported Liverpool, United & Arsenal as kids because they were the best teams at the time. Kids are kids, they always support a top PL team even if it's not their local.

November 9, 20178 yr Let's just keep winning and let them say what they like. BTW I think Jones is an honest player who gives of his best.
November 9, 20178 yr Jones just always looks funny. Like how some players appear lazy or classy he just appears like he stumbled his way onto the field and is trying to fit in
November 9, 20178 yr I am glad that Slojo mentioned Carvalho when he was talking about how much Smalling grabs opponents shirts. It used to scare me sh*tless whenever we would defend a corner and I would watch all the shenanigans that Carvalho would be doing. Was he ever called for a penalty? He may have been as lucky as Smalling. I was never that keen on Carvalho as being a great defender like others on this forum, for just that reason, and because he would make some scary tackles that may have justified a red card in today's game (again, he seemed to be lucky in that he rarely if ever was given a red card).
November 9, 20178 yr I am convinced if Conte extends his stay Azpi will be his on field General, I don't see Cahill as Conte type of General Azpi fits that mould a lot more
November 9, 20178 yr This is a brilliant read. Herrera saying Chelsea parked the bus. We had twice the efforts of the Uturds and most their efforts in last 5 mins. I really really hate the little s***. https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/657939/Man-Utd-news-Ander-Herrera-Chelsea-reaction

On redcafe, they have a thread titled "Forget about Last year, is Phil Jones the best defender in the league?" or something to that effect. Hilarious really

You’re probably right about Jones but I think he’s a truly awful defender and not top club quality. We winge about Cahill/ Luiz but thankfully we don’t have to rely on Jones.

Carvalho wasn't the only shirt grabber back then, although he was one of the worst. Back then it was more accepted, especially before the 4th official nonsense, now it's not supposed to be tolerated at all, it's a lot softer. I can't think of any other defenders that grab shirts as much as Chris Smalling or anywhere near as much. I think it's his nationality that gives him that privilege, because he's never been criticised for it by pundits.
November 9, 20178 yr After seeing some of those Smalling pictures I'd be tempted to have a Hap Ki Do instructor visit for training. When someone has a hold of your shirt like that there's fairly simple ways (with practice) where, without using you hands, you can put them in a wrist lock that causes very significant discomfort (a generous way of stating quite a bit of pain) to the point of possibly causing even bone/soft tissue damage. If the ref's won't deter this behavior, perhaps that would.

Put a Chels blue on him and he would be a dead man walking in the eyes of the refs. A proper cockaroach and a lousy loser. A lovely punchable face........man I dislike this weasel. November 10, 20178 yr Smalling can't defend without pulling people's shirts, it's the only way he can keep up with players and position himself correctly. It's not just from set pieces that he does it either. If he is trying to contain a player, he will grab them, if he is running side by side with a player, he will grab them. I know Carvalho did it a lot, but nowhere near as much as Smalling. Smalling relies on it because without it, he can't defend. This just shows how average of a defender he is to be honest. If you took it out of his game then he would get destroyed by most players. People used to say that Shawcross was the worst for this in the Premier League, but in my opinion, Smalling is just as bad. The only difference is that Shawcross get's criticised for it and Smalling has been allowed to get away with it.
