If he starts and plays well today( of course he will play well, he always does), do you guys think he will be given a longer run in the side even after Alonso is back? He certainly deserves it

I don't think Alonso should come straight back into the starting 11. Emerson is better defensively, surprisingly good at defending set pieces, get's forward a lot more smoothly than Alonso. The only things i can see in Alonso's game that is better is his freekicks and finishing.

I’d bet my house in Alonso coming straight back in.

makes me wonder if alonso could be moulded into a more attacking player. i think he is much better suited for being an attacking player. i suppose at 28 it's a bit late to mould oneself into a different position though.

It all depends what people like in a wingback, I like one to stay wide, overlap, run at players, crosses etc. Alonso scores a lot and has a good Free kick but that's because he spends a lot of time inside and has the height for set pieces.

It’s annoying because Alonso is quality too! If only one of them were a right back!

Play Alonso ahead of Emerson like we used to with le saux and baba. Now that would be some quality down the left.

Of course he is the real deal, i was absolutely BAFFLED by the amount of people calling him an underwhelming signing or calling him a sub or an average player, this guy has all the tools to be the best LB/LWB in the game. In fact, he was quite clearly my first choice for the position, even ahead of Sandro, though that was probably because of his age.

He is an example of good scouting, and we should be targeting a RB with similar qualities,(dribbling, speed, crossing and good awareness)

Alonso has a decent left peg on him but apart from that he is defensively fragile. He is too slow and Emerson is lightyears ahead in athleticism and his overall game is more dynamic.

I think Conte was showing loyalty to Alonso by not picking Emerson over him. That's literally the only excuse I think of to why Emerson wasn't first choice from after the first few training sessions.

There's a place and time for both. Alonso will be better off not needing to play every match and Emerson is probably not ready to put in a good performance every match either.

Couple things don't go his way, a mistake here or bad touch there and he's average

He played well yesterday, notwithstanding a couple of poor decisions. 

For a player new to England, playing away against a relegation candidate in a torrential downpour is a real test. Well done to him.

Different type of player to Alonso but I can see them both playing a role next season.

I'd personally keep Emerson and Kennedy and sell Alonso, we would definitely make ourselves a nice tidy profit.

Can't see us selling him either. One of the big Spanish teams would need to offer north of 50m.

Plus Kenedy isn’t a wing back. He proved he’s a good attacking winger at Newcastle.

The run he made in the second half was impressive, although he flubbed the shot with his weak foot.  He’s only going to get better.

I wouldn’t be opposed to selling Alonso for a good price (40m or more), and giving Baba a chance at the backup job.

Can´t wait until he is completely settled in the side and we see this Emerson, his ability to dribble out from the back and beat a press is going to be huge for us

Moses has good energy but his final ball is lacking as is his descion making in general. 

We got lucky last season with him but we need an upgrade and whilst there isn’t a lot out there there I personally believe we have a youngster  Reece James in the under 18s that is not that far away and even at this stage his eye for a pass is way better than that of Moses.

This is a very good article on Emerson Palmieri which was published a year ago. His radar graphs are very similar to the likes of Alaba, Sandro and Marcelo

Now I'm not trying to hate on Alonso here, I think he's done very well since joining us but look at the difference between him and Emerson from last season. 

Emerson has looked very good so far but he's not even at the top of his game yet considering he's played less than 10 games all season

Baba hasn't played for over a year, He wasnt exactly great before the injury, so I don't know why you want to see him in the squad over alonso. 

Alonso is still a good player. Emerson has done great so far, but it is still early days. 

After struggling in that position for years, its nice to have good but different options.
