Alvaro Morata

Featured Replies

What a shame that this guy might be leaving so quickly. It's obvious if anyone watched him this year they would notice he has great abilities hidden behind his weak mentality. If Morata could get some confidence and start playing consistently like he did in the stoke game he could be something special. Unfortunately it seems he's already decided to leave the club. :face_palm:

When we played them away they kicked off with only one recognised centrer back on the pitch (Martins Indi), and he went off, then they played the rest of the game with basically no recognised defenders. Morata scored the 2nd and 3rd goals of his hat trick in this period when they had no recognised defenders left.

I’m not sure we’re in a position where we can afford to be patient with Morata.

We let our best striker since Drogba leave and put a lot of faith in Morata and invested a lot of money in him to prove he’s good enough to be first choice at a big club. Trusted him to be able to carry the goal scoring burden that comes with that and he’s massively let us down.

We got so little in return on our huge investment.

So get rid of Morata and sign Lewandowski? I don’t think we’d regret that at all. If nothing else Lewandowski’s experience would be a huge plus, something we sorely missed this season. You only have to look at the impact Giroud had when he arrived as a testament to the importance of quality, experienced players.

I think signing Lewandowski is our best move also if it's possible but us having no patience is something we have a problem with. Morata may not of shown his best qualities here but I think he will flourish elsewhere but In this situation I dont think it's our fault. It seems it's more mentality his but when you look at Michy, someone who has been dying for a chance and he gets shipped out on loan. Now he can't stop scoring at Dortmund and an injury preventing him doing so. I feel like if we gave him more consistent chances here then we would be better off this season. I can see us loaning out someone like Ross Barkley also who needs his chance to flourish and a manager who believes in him. Cuadrado is another example of having no patience, Salah, KDB and Lukaku also to a certain extent.

We lack patience with youth also but that's down to the constant sacking of managers and us not building. Managers are stressed to win things and will always start with experience. If they don't they are out the door, even when they do win things they are still out the door. Christensen was the first youth player to start consistent full games since John Terry right?

The board want trophies over stability for a few seasons, which again is understandable because it works but I think with both Manchester clubs heavily invested now and with Pep at City I dont think we will get close to that league trophy for a couple of seasons. Which is why I want the board to have more patience with the new manager and the way he plays, top 4 finish and good cup runs should be our expectations for the manager next year. Develop the players we have invested in and develop a team that can challenge in a season or two, I think if we want instant success and we don't spend a huge money then it's not going to work for upcoming managers. The board need to change their mentality and expectations if we are not going to spend big.

Going for Lewandowski for me is us being afraid of another failure in someone younger but I personally think Morata is not a failure, the whole team this season has been under par and if he played in a more confident team like Contes first season I feel like he would of bagged a good few more than 11 goals. With more confidence I don't think the mental issues would of been there for him. Spanish strikers of a history of sulking when things are not going well.

Who is this signing on; Conte or the board? It is crazy enough we signed 2 similar forwards in the same season.

I have no idea if this is true but I seem to remember it being said that the club wanted Lukaku but Conte wanted Morata.

Worth a look. Bloke makes Kalou look like a great finisher.

Crazy how often he doesn't even hit the target or hit it straight at the goalie. Maybe 2 or 3 of those were fair due to good goalkeeping/defending or the chance was at an angle, but it's fair to say if he finished better in the rest of the chances he would have lived up to his price tag

Bet he scores about twenty five to thirty goals next season if he joins Juve, Would have liked to see him stick around. Might have been a complete turnaround with a more offensive coach like Sarri in charge.

The catalogue of misses is hard to watch...

Doesn't appear to have instinct (when he doesn't have time), or composure when he does have time.

Owch...

....still, good he was getting into the positions!

never got close to 30 goals in his career. Don't see that changing any time soon with his ability with his feet.

This is quite possible, as he would also be able to do in Spain. Mainly because there is less of a pressing culture in football in these countries. This guy is incapable of taking the ball on the half, which is fine in Italy because he will get time to turn with the ball. Don't get me wrong the Italians can defend but he would get time to turn with the ball. You can't do that here, you'll get clumped and unfortunatel thsi guy is a bit of a pu$$y. For me it is so evident when Giroud comes on. Giroud immediately pins his man, plays on the half turn and holds up the play and brings others into play. This guy clutches his face and dives to the floor, has a sh!te touch and frankly hasn't been able to hit a cows ar$e with a banjo

I think if Conte had played Batshuayi instead, we'd have had a 25+ goal striker last season ... granted the link up play would have been worse, but Bats knows how to do the important striker bits i.e. put the ball in the net :)

Morata doesn't seem to have a striker's instinct with the ball at his feet.

Conte did play Batshuayi and apart from a few games in pre-season where he looked not too bad, he mostly looked quite sh*t.

Also we need to consider that managers/coaches work with players every day and will know far more than us about which fringe players need promoting to the first team. Unlike us fans, they’re not basing their assessments entirely on a few cup games/sub appearances here and there.

Anyway it will be interesting to see how it goes for him in the World Cup.

We finished fifth, so it seems he got it wrong.

Was there even a right answer?

Hypotheticals are fun but useless. Using an event that didn't happen to big up or belittle a player is absolutely useless. I think if he had played Batshuayi instead we'd still be fifth. We went into a game against a team with 0 f**king wins in 8 games (or something, I cant remember i just remember palace were awful) and Michy did nothing but I'm sure there will be an excuse for that ...

To Morata’s credit he was excellent in getting in great positions to score goals.

Just the finishing has let him down... If he sorts that out then we will have one of the world’s best strikers on our hands. Not many strikers could create chances for themselves like Morata does.

Fingers crossed he improves his finishing!

Those Arsenal finishes... one of the worst centre forward performances i've seen, including Torres.

Torres would never have got in the position to miss them chances, he would have been hiding on the wing or something.

Where would we have finished if Morata’s and Batshuayi’s roles had been reversed? It’s impossible to say. Morata did well for us up until December, so based on Batshuayi’s history for *us*, we could well have ended up lower than 5th.
