They're missing the details of how he got completely brushed aside by Fleck about 3 times in the first 25 minutes!!

Lucky for him that the game doesn't end after the first 20 minutes...

Although Jorginho was lucky not to be subbed after 20 minutes! Most were calling for him to be subbed at H/T.

To be fair he did improve second half (hard not to!)

Maybe Tuchel will sell him in the summer, so you just need to bare with him a few extra months.

Quality game, he's been great under Tuchel, it's a crime how he doesn't have more assists to his name, played Abraham and Werner in soundly, but as always our forwards can't take advantage.

Excellent tonight. Still shoots like a sh*te Kezman but I thought he was head and shoulders the best player on the park.

Cor blimey! About bloody time Loz.

And couldn't agree more, the shooting thing is never going to improve sadly. He can't shoot to save his life, I don't think any of our midfielders can actually. None of them are capable of scoring from long range.

I was saying that he isn't fulfilling the stereotype of his region because I have seen many that are from there and capable of scoring.

He's just simply more unique than the rest, he can do it all part from scoring which to me is almost like he's that cool kid that only cared about dribbling everyone on the street.

I think that he would have been a really good futsal player as well.

He was massive today. So important for our build up play, he just gets out of being pressed so effortlessly. On top of that he should have had two assists today. Very complete performance by him today. People need to let go of this notion that he needs to score goals. Sure, it would be nice if he could pop up with the odd goal, but he's playing as part of a double 6 now. It's not really his role in the team to score.

It’d still be nice if he score 5 a year or something like that. He has been immense under Tuchel though and I really think he will turn Kovacic into a world class player.

I just wish he’d score a few. Even Kante get a few a season.

Capable of scoring but goal scoring threats from midfield not so much. Stankovic is the only midfielder player that that I can remember that was somewhat of a scoring threat from midfield. Modric I think for example could score more goals if he wanted to as he has good shooting technique but it’s not his dna. Kovacic does not have a strong shot and is not one of those midfield players who will make runs into the box. He really good at what he does. Definitely could have had a couple of assists today. Expecting him to score more then 3 goals a season is probably not gonna happen.

Doesn't mean fans shouldn't expect him to improve. He needs to score more goals and make more assists if we want to win titles again.

As it stands, 2 goals and 1 assist a season doesn't cut it.

Stats are very misleading though, he should've easily had 2 assists today and he didn't, is that his fault?

Same with last season, if you watch his highlights last season he didn't get a lot of assists but you'll see about 10 chances he created with throughballs to Abraham and Mount and they weren't finished. He does actually create chances, obviously not as much as the likes of KDB, but he does create. Just unfortunately for him, people aren't finishing his chances.

Reece James should easily be on the same number of stats as TAA, but again, people don't finish the chances he creates, that's not his fault.

His ball carrying ability is second to none he just beat the press so well and his understand with jorginho is so good they know where each other will be.

This is very true. And there have been many similar occasions over the past two seasons. Would add that the shot he put over the bar wasn’t easy. Few would have put that away.

Everyone remember THAT goal? Still - I’d rather have Kova in my team.

Outstanding last night, easily the man of the match for me and must be a great player to play with as he is always a viable outlet no matter how much pressure we are under as he can wriggle out of anything. Very unlucky not to have a couple of assists last night too and is getting into those positions much more now. I think we need to just ignore the lack of goals as it just isnt going to change anytime soon.

I do think Kovacic has potential to be a very creative midfielder if he teeps taking the risks that he is, but when it comes to goals no chance. That's one thing we have to accept, you're not going to get many goals out of him sadly. The bloke just can't shoot to save his life.

He was the best player on the pitch by a country mile, should off been man of the match. The sky sports commentary didn't even mention his fantastic performance. The commentary were as awful as the referee last night.

I would say British bias but then they gave Werner MOTM lmao.

I can't complain though, Werner needs it more than anyone right now.

Andy Hinchcliffe was woeful on commentry last night.

Trouble is commentry teams, particularly the co-commentator, help dictate the narrative of a game.

The narrative last night was that it was a much weakened Newcastle side. They had 3 injuries.
