Needs must. Exactly. We have to focus on what we are developing here, not what we are letting go. Those that leave that have served the club well, will be sad to see go, but if we don't do this, then these so called young burgeoning talents that we have bought will have nowhere to "burgeon"
May 31, 20233 yr I like Kovacic, sometimes a bit of a meh footballer, sometimes he's one of the tidiest footballers you can watch. Had an awful season though unfortunately, can't even remember a good performance from him.

May 31, 20233 yr When I think of the calibre of players City have had and also still have in recent seasons..........D Silva, B Silva, KDB, Gundogan, Mahrez, Grealish, Foden - think signing Kovacic would be quite a downgrade. Always said he is a decent squad player but he won't start anything like the number of games for City as he has for us. Hopefully he will do for City what Jorginho has done for Arsenal...............................!!
May 31, 20233 yr Replacing Jorginho / Kante / Kovacic with Enzo / Unknown / Unknown (hopefully Caicedo and a classy DM, dont't have a clue about Ugarte) is risky AF but there's no turning back now. We have to do it. Kovacic is injured a lot and his heart isn't in it anyway. The thing is we're going to be playing a bunch of kids...on almost every position there's a 19-25 year old. Which is amazing and all but it's going to take a few years for this club to reach its potential, like with Arsenal. Wonder if we shouldn't be looking occasionally for some experienced, proven players as well, the likes of Milinkovic Savic for example
May 31, 20233 yr A tidy player on his day but woeful with his shooting and passing in the attacking 3rd of the pitch. Gonna be weird seeing him at City but IMO he’d checked out at Chelsea this season and was way below par. At one point I remember a commentator saying he’d played more minutes for Croatia in 3 weeks at the World Cup than he had in the previous 3 months at Chelsea. That was a bit of a red flag to me that his desire had diminished. Like I said a tidy player on his day and actually a slick dribbler but I feel a parting of ways is probably best for him and us. As a squad player I think he could do ok at City but I feel we need better in midfield.
May 31, 20233 yr We really are in for an overhaul. I mean it’s pretty hard to imagine the midfield without Kovacic, Kante and Jorginho, even though he left back in January. Possibly with all three gone this summer, we have to get it right. A strong midfield would transform the team completely imo. A player similar to Rodri would be perfect for Enzo.
May 31, 20233 yr If pep wants him, there must be a good reason. But I struggle to see how Kovacic could improve or even fit in their team. I was surprised how poor Kovavcic been in recent months, thought Jorginho out would have opened a door for him, instead he looked worse than the Jorginho most people looked down on. Maybe he's one that desperately wanted to leave, so let it happen then, I'm sure City got money to spend.

A risk for him sure is they have a stacked squad, but still the chance to be managed by Pep and play in that side is a great opportunity.
June 1, 20233 yr He's going to be a machine at City, especially after a full summer of rest. Bigger loss than Mason for us.
June 1, 20233 yr Given the similar situations between Sterlong at City before coming here, and Kovas here with the city interest, both 1 year left on their deals. Alright Sterling has English tax too him but Pep wanted to bin Sterling and wants Kova in. So I would be left further concerned about our directors if we do noy receive a minimum 40mill for Kova.

Maybe he's one that desperately wanted to leave, so let it happen then, I'm sure City got money to spend. I fully understand why Pep wants him. Pep wants a very much technical based team which Kovacic fits perfectly. He also is one of the best if not the best press-resistance players around. So when he is on the ball and he swivels away from opposition players, can easily set the likes of Grealish, KDB and Haaland free to do their magic.

If all these players are such crap according to some fans and so want them to leave, how come they are being targeted by the best clubs in the world, Man City, AC Milan, Juventus, PSG, Man Utd? These are proven players who won the CL and just need a good manager. With so many players wanting to leave, something has changed inside the club we dont know off. I fear for this club. Lets see what Pochettino can do but not holding my breath! If they were so good, why are they constantly performing so bad for us? 5 years I have had to sit through watching these players approach games like they have just gotten out of bed. Watch them perform like they don't even care to be here. If they suddenly click at another club, it doesn't mean we were wrong to sell them, it means they never cared enough to perform at that level for Chelsea on a consistent basis. For years we have been saying we only want players that will give 100% every game, and the past 5 years suggest that we aren't going to get it from a lot of our current players, so it's time to move on from their era and focus on a new one.

It’s the last part that Kova struggles with ‘easily set the likes…’ Far to often he beats the press and fails to deliver the pass at the correct time, overruns it or even worse attempts a shot! That said, my biggest worry with this complete rebuild is that we are taking all the experience out of the team, those that contain it and remain most don’t want. Replacing it with a bunch of kids that can be inconsistent at best. Great when results are going your way but can be catastrophic if they dip. Edited June 1, 20233 yr by charierre
June 1, 20233 yr Thank you for all the memories Kova go to City and win things no issue with you what so ever Mount on the other hand well that's a different story #CFC
June 1, 20233 yr As good as Kovacic can be he is just not reliable. Very frustrating when you have him and Kante in your squad but one of them is either always injured or just coming back from injury or out of form. I am looking forward to a future with a midfield that can be relied upon to play a majority of games. The constant injuries killed our chemistry over the last years. We never managed to build a stable line-up for more than a few weeks at best.
June 1, 20233 yr If Kovacic turns out to be a world class player under Pep, just have to give both of them credit. Even during his best period at Chelsea, he was never able to nail down that starting spot. So blame our managers and medical staff, with all due respect he just hasn't been that great for us. He could be a huge gain for City, but I don't see him as a huge lose for Chelsea.
June 1, 20233 yr I think it's been obvious for a while that Kova hasn't been in good form, for whatever reason. This isn't a surprise to me. I mean it's never ideal to sell to rivals, but City have sold to rivals so it's natural. The money is circling around the PL right now and no other leagues seem to be putting the interest or money up for our players.
