Remember when the top 6 used to be the top 4?

Remember when we only competed with Arsenal and United?

There is absolutely no reason at all to suggest we are always going to be in the top 6. If we bin off Sarri, replace him with another manager, who we then come 6th or 7th with (easily doable), then bin him off. How many players are going to rush to us if there are better projects happening at Everton, Wolves and Newcastle? We all laughed when Oxlade Chamberlain turned us down for Liverpool. We will laugh again when a player turns us down for Wolves or Everton in the future. But it could happen.

We are not far away from fading as a club out of the top 6. Our ground is the worst of the top 6  (worse than Newcastle, Aston Villa, West Ham and soon to be Everton as well). We have no structure as a board, no direction, no style,no world class players (other than Kante), our owner doesnt live here anymore. There is absolutely no reason why we should be a top club forever more.

Some good points ... thanks for responding on my behalf ?

Let's not forget RIP Mourinho that Manchester City were finishing 10th not even 10 years ago ... you can bet that if the Newcastle deal goes through to this UAE billionaire, I highly doubt he won't be throwing a lot of cash at his new pet project, and that he will make it an extremely attractive proposition for potential player recruits. Football is increasingly a hobby for Billionaires to bang cocks with each other  ... sad to say ...

Even in a doom and gloom season like the year we finished third and 15 points ahead of Wolves outside the top 6. We've also been through worse times, such as 2015/16 and still went on to attract Kante, Michy and Luiz.

Man City got rich before FFP too. Not quite as easy as just throwing money at it anymore.

I don't think we will show Sarri the door at this point. If he leaves this summer I think it will be his own choice and probably because he decides to take up a new position in Italy (probably Juve). Either way we would then be left in a position where we have to hire yet another manager. Hopefully we get Petr Cech confirmed as DOF shortly after this week's final. Next time we have to hire a new manager I hope there is a DOF involved in the decision.

I think the club wants him to stay. I wouldn't put any emphasis on some fans booing him. If we sacked him because of that I would lose all  faith in the club. He achieved his targets and that should be enough.

I think he goes if he wants to go to another club. He said himself he wants to stay in the Prem.

I didnt think it was doom and gloom this year, I thought it was a transition. I think it will be a disaster if we chop and change now. We've got a great foundation as a club.

Wolves might have only been 15 points behind us, but we picked up 25 more points against the bottom 10 sides than they did. It isn't inconceivable that they improve their points tally significantly next year.

Capello made some smart points about Sarri at Juve yesterday, it makes little sense for both parties.  He said the mentality of Juve as a club has always been a winner, it is Boniperti’s DNA and winning is the only thing that matters. After that comes playing well. He also said at Chelsea Sarri spoke about a 3yr project, at Juve he won’t be getting 3yrs.

Juve aren’t there to win another Serie A, odds on them retaining the scudetto has to be very low at this point. The Agnelli family spent big bucks to bring in Ronaldo a serial CL winner, why would they go for a manager for a manager that has never won anything?

It used to be for years a top two Man United and Arsenal we came near in 98 and Blackburn won it one year but it only became a top three when Roman came. The Everton, Wolves comparison is laughable and Ox turned us down he chose Liverpool it happens he was offered a more central role. Wolves are never going to compete with Chelsea they've had a good season but that doesn't mean their going to turn into a dominant force in English football.

Was thinking this, Juve are a big club why would they go for a 2nd rate manager like Sarri, surely he's the option when their targets aren't available

Aren't most club owners in the Premier League multi billionaires now anyway? Even Ashley is a billionaire, he's just a tight bastard that's always business >>> pleasure.

Yup. Pretty sure Everton became one of the richest clubs in the country a year or so back and still aren't attracting big names.

And to think Sarri could be the saviour of the club!! Depressing thought. After Conte's moaning final season and Sarri whose managerial skills or lack of them has split the fan base, we as a club and fan base need a huge lift during the summer. Sticking with Sarri won't be the answer.

Why is it depressing to be the best team in the league outside of the two untouchables from last season, losing a cup final to one of them and knocking the other one out the cup and reaching a European final?

If this is one season under Sarri, bring on next season.

Sounds like there is a good chance Sarri is interested in Juve. If Juve pays the rumoured buyout of 5mill they can get his staff for free as they only were given 1 year deals by the club.

If Sarri does go then I will start paying more attention to possible replacements. Though Lamps should stay well clear and carry on the good job he is doing at Derby. Will only help him become a better manager.

He does want to stay in the prem, who wouldnt.  But he'd also not mind the chance to go back to Italy privately, ill bet any money

If Juventus stump up the 5m he will be gone, the club wont stand in his way.  It's 50-50 whether he stays or goes IMO, i can see both happening, weirdly

For one year.  I don’t think that changes much.  Conte was extended for an additional year and didn’t see it through.  PSG is obsessed with CL glory, so I’m sure he’s not on the longest leash, and if we offered a buyout I think they would consider it.

it  rules him out for this summer though

a lot of noise from the Italian media lately.  Romeo Agresti, dimarzio, La Stampa to name a few

Thanks Chief, I have been going 35yrs, empty seats, booing, Sarri football, I go every game and listen to the chatter, anyone that endorses this garbage is seriously delusional

Didn't we go to the trouble of paying Napoli some 8+ million to get Sarri out of his contract? How come we make him available for 5m? Whoever is in charge of final contracts at the club is doing a really bad job of it.
