Lamps PL record 17 defeats in 55 games more or less a third of matches not great reading. And before anyone posts about Klopp or Ole's record I am  aware of them.

We will improve our win rate if we buy Rice in January. Or if Lampard changes his tactics. I think it's safer to rely on another big signing, the more money you throw the more chances that something good will come up, Lampard can't continue like this.

I believe FL should bring in another assistant to create structure, playing patterns and playing styles if he really wants to move forward with this team.

I like your post a lot but that part got me thinking. Before this season we brought in a new coach to help improve our defence. Now you're saying we need another for playing patterns and styles. My question is, what is it that Jody Morris and Joe Edwards are doing there, because I have trouble trying to figure it out.

Everyone is discussing FL but surely Jody Morris should be working to improve the players in training.

You are very right there.Frank is too nice sometimes. Jody was obviously enough for Derby, but for sure he should've brought a more experienced number 2 for Chelsea to balance his inexperience. Instead he stuck with Jody because they're friends and he maybe he isn't progressing as fast because of that.

The trouble is Gol, there’s no magic money tree in the way there was when Roman first arrived. There are limits on how many players we can get and the board has made it clear. In strictly business terms, Roman wants a return on his investment and the extra £200 mil spent adds to the pressure / shortens the required timeline in which this return needs to be delivered. Surely you would agree that our current squad can do better than what we’ve been seeing lately. If you don’t believe that it means the £200 mil was a horrendous malinvestment.

I suspect you think the former; hence, it comes down to Lampard needing to improve things pretty quickly. Otherwise the owner will look for a management team he deems more capable of delivering that return. He’s not going to keep Lampard there if he thinks that means he has to spend more money. See what I mean? So in short - Lampard has to improve a lot and quite quickly. I’m still hoping he can but one has to recognise it’s the only option in the ‘Lampard stays’ scenario.

Well yes, I agree. But Lampard has shown that despite the poor form we would still be playing in the same way, I hope that he himself doesn't rely on our team to magically just work things out.

If he's unwilling to change his tactics that might be his downfall. Sarri also stuck to his guns, ran the same plan and eventually it worked out. So here's hoping that Lampard can do the same, even if I don't really see how from my point of view...

200m didn’t come from Roman though did it?

With a transfer ban, the sale of players such as Hazard and Morata, the income from champions league/europa/premier league. That’s pretty much 200m if not more.

I honestly don’t think Roman puts much money into the club anymore, especially not since he’s been extradited out of this country.

We seem to be self sufficient at the moment.

Exactly. Given FFP is not a thing because of covid Roman can dig deep to sign Rice and anyone else he wants to sign. Now is the time to dig deep, if he wants to. Rice, Ben White, whoever.

Still pumps loads of money into the club.

And if things don’t work out this season, the next manager will be lumped with expensive signings he probably isn’t interested in.

I agree here if we need coaches to build play pattern play styles and structure what’s his current coaches actual purpose and more importantly what’s Lampard purpose just to pick the team?
I keep hearing he’s a genius and a super intelligent guy so if he is now is the time show it because doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result doesn’t seem like something an genius intelligent person would do.

You mean like Lamps being lumped with the record goalkeeper with weak wrist and a big head?

You mean like one useless leftback and another who can only play as a wingback and is on a huge contract?

You mean like a 40mill Baka and 35mill Drinkwater?

Etc etc

He would have Declan Rice, one of the biggest English prospects for the future. Whoever comes after Lampard in that case should be happy to find such a player, built for the Premier League.

Let's say Allegri comes after we offer him a huge contract, he wouldn't have a problem with having Rice that came in January to help Lampard. He would have a problem with the CB position once T.Silva leaves first and foremost.

Makes sense. Of course the money comes from Roman 🙂! What club has the self-sufficiency / bottom line to splash 200 mln on players at a time like this? Not Liverpool, as Klopp kept moaning about over the summer. And in that case certainly not Chelsea, as we must be considerably less profitable. When you factor in the astronomical costs of running a football club, plus all the foregone revenues etc, 200 mil is a hell of a lot to be spending on players right now.

I get that some want Frank gone, but would love him to succeed.

Frank may be a novice manager, but he has played under the best in the world, seen every training drill and formations from the best .

crucially he has played in the best Chelsea team ever.

I think he needs time, that money he spent has bought us 5 new players with another on a free.

Let's hope we turn it round

Agree mate. But just on Roman, he withdrew his Visa renewal application, there is no bar or anything on him.

let's hope he gets it sorted somehow.

We need goals from midfield and I don't see Rice offering much in that department, we need a Grealish like player who can create as well as score.  I'm not sure who that player is but we best hurry up and find him.

You nailed at “English” talent; if Havertz flops a foreign club will take a punt on him and we will most likely recover parts of our money. With an English talent you are stuck with him till his contract ends.

Spending around £80m on a DM just doesn’t sit right with me. It’s a position you can actually find value in the market.

Would rather spend the £80m on Grealish than Rice given the chance.

Why not Grealish? And why not both? Roman can afford whatever he wants.

I imagine we will get him for 60-65m or we won't get him at all.

It's interesting when one end of the field starts to falter, the other end follows. Back in the Jose days, when our attack were toothless at times, at least the defence hold out their end and we get some nil all or the odd 1:0.  I haven't been able to pinpoint the moment the great collapse began, I'd say it's that everton game when Mendy came out of no where and cost us a penalty, and the whole team dropped their head. It has to be mental rather than players losing form or fatigue. The last thing we need is another upcoming good player like Rice, there's no time and effort to spend on getting him up to speed and integrate into the system. Ideally, we get a proven attacking player that will give us a couple of good years this month, other than that let's improve the players we already got.

I suppose one of the reasons Frank is after Rice is to bring some leadership into that midfield, currently we have Mount, Kante & Kova who all seem quiet and head down kind of guys. More than anything he is looking for a voice in there and you can't really question his quality either, he is a natural CDM something we lack with the exception of Jorginho.

I don't think Rice is the answer to all our troubles as people have rightly pointed out that we lack creativity from midfield and Rice does not resolve that but I think Frank believes the answer to that is in Kai. I think he wants to play 4-2-3-1 but he doesnt believe he has the right balance in the 2 holding midfielders currently, we tried 4-2-3-1 at the start of the league and the balance did not seem right and therefore is hesitant in trying it again.
