Lots of people saying this is harsh - and whilst I don't disagree, I just want to put this out there:

1) in high profile jobs outside of football, would a manager/senior appointment be allowed to oversee huge investments going to waste? This is essentially what has been done with jorgi, kepa, rudi, kova, kai, etc who have all been rotting on the bench this season. And whilst I agree that these players have not deserved to play, it remains that from a business perspective, Lamps failed to get the most out of the clubs  investments.

2) if we are to believe that the objective for the year was to close the gap on city and liverscum - then we have failed in  terms of both results and style. It is arguable that the style or identity of our play under lamps was as worse than at any other point in the Roman era.

3) Lamps continued to allow our team to play slow, insipid, uninspired football, constant backwards/sideways passing, followed by hoofs into the box - a style that does not suit the players he has. No other industry would (or should) allow a leader to continue to implement or oversee such working practices when it is clearly not to for the benefit of the wider team.

so I guess - in short, it hurts. I want lamps as our manager and wish he hadn't been sacked - but taking sentiment out of it, he probably deserved the sack.

Do i misunderstand something? The only two players i know who were there in Jose's last season are Azpi and Zouma.

So why go to the press right away when your Manager is sacked...

IF TRUE I think the player spoke in the present tense, whilst Frank was still in charge; The Athletic has changed it to suit the changing situation. Does make me wonder if it was Azpilicueta or Zouma mouthing off due to the Jose reference, though.

Make what you will of that article but its telling whcih is why some players got frozen out i think.

I wonder if he fell out with Azpi also...🤔

That's my gripe with some on here Slojo. They want a manager out or in based on their affinity for him and not what he's capable of delivering.

I don't care whose Ox is gored. Can he get the job done? Is he meeting and exceeding KPIs?

If not, out with the old and in with the new. As many times as required. This isn't a chicken change industry. Billions are at stake. A man investing such billions has the right to sack a manager every month if he can afford it and thinks its the right thing to do to move his business forward.

I get your point that the club is a business. But the supporters are emotionally attached to a club, not to a business. This is the interesting paradox: the supporters can only support the club when it keeps existing. And a club needs supporters, otherwise what be the use if nobody wants to watch the football that brings in big money (let's forget tourists buying tickets and merchandise, that's a drop in the ocean compared to tv money).

For now, let's give those supporters who are gutted (me, for instance) some time to process today's events, however unreasonable or unlogical they may seem.

Not knowing Azpi at all of course (or Frank), I'm trying to imagine what it would take to fall out with Azpi.

The Athletic are saying Lampard would have walked in this summer if it wasn't for his relationship with the club. The relationship between him and Marina must have been pretty fecking bad.

If that's true, this actually shocked me.

Never got the sense their was unrest at the end of last season.

He knew he was sacked before the Luton game, so thats why he snapped at the questions in the press conference makes sense now.

The theathletic.com article is quiet eye opening

"

  • One senior player told The Athletic that Lampard staying on for the rest of the season would have been a ‘catastrophe’, with the levels of tension in the dressing room to high to recover from and players comparing his criticism of performances to Jose Mourinho in his final days at the club.

The part I've put in bold is odd.

The only squad players that were there when Mourinho was sacked in 2015 were Azpilicueta and Zouma.

Abraham was at the club as well, but was in the youth squad so I doubt he had much to do with Mourinho at the time.

Remember, in Lampard's days, how many managers got sacked because of the players; karma has a way of creeping up on you.

The TV money is so high because of the tourists. Those who live across the globe and don't live in the UK.

It's clearly not a sustainable model to work with. Klopp and Pep didn't win right away but their clubs stuck with them, that's the model that traditionally works the most, it brings stability.

Klopp and Pep are among the best club managers in the world with impressive body of work. Frank at the moment isn't.

You may say the club used him when they offered him a job in difficult circumstances with the best player leaving and transfer ban. But then again, if it wasn't for that, he would never have gotten the job in the first place, with experience of just one season in the Championship.

In the end, both sides got something out of it. Frank got priceless experience of managing at the top level and the club moved on from Hazard era to developing a few talented youngsters and improved the squad with some quality signings.

I thought Frank did well in his first season and surprised many, me included, by inishing in the top four. But I also feel this job is too big for him at the moment. I feel sad about him leaving but it may turn out to be the right move, only time will tell.

Quite odd, but at least Jose's teams could still defend even if it was bad to watch.

Lamps couldnt even do that, worst defence ive seen as a chelsea fan and i been supporting them since the 80's

You're clearly a troll by your username.

Time to unpin this thread, fat frank's been sacked and its time to move on.

The dirty pub dwelling 50 year olds must be crying but too bad. Time for a superior manager to come in and take this club to new heights that were NEVER going to be reached by Franky boy

Definitely a rival troll, piss off mate.

Other than the ridiculous ‘fat’ jibe he isn’t saying anything different from others on here.

Anecdote: I once sat next to an Asian couple, the man alternated between watching the pitch and his phone, the woman just watched her phone. She nearly dropped it when we scored and everybody around them jumped up and down

No, not relevant, you're right. Carry on.

I just feel that they rushed it way too soon, he could have turned the season around. And if he failed then it would be reasonable to make this move much more, for me he had all the right to fight this season till the end because he got us to top4 last season and because of who he is, the board could have made a slight exception at least till the end of last month or till the end of the season.

I'm not surprised but very disappointed with the club that they did not at the very least give him until the end of the season.

With each sacking I'm starting to lose that investment/bond I have with the club I once knew. I don't think wanting stability is too much to ask for.

So Frank wanted Ziyech but only Chilwell was his signing. Makes sense.

"One senior player told The Athletic that Lampard staying on for the rest of the season would have been a ‘catastrophe’, with the levels of tension in the dressing room to high to recover from and players comparing his criticism of performances to Jose Mourinho in his final days at the club."

Which players were comparing it to Jose's final days?  Azpilicueta all by himself, or did Courtois and Remy come round for sh*ts and giggles.

When have I ever said anything like that? Or insulted Frank?

You can strawman my arguments all you want but none of it is true and quite frankly you've gone down in my books for even suggesting that... Just because I disagree with you on the managerial situation. I get that it's not a nice time and all, and emotions are running high but I'm not behaving like a troll and insulting a club legend during a very hard time.
