Mason Mount

Featured Replies

What studs do him and Tammy wear ? Both of them slip so much.. had a decent game.. better decision making from him.. didnt try to run as much with the ball at his feet and played a few good balls.. But for a player like him he needs a goal to really feel in form.. i think the confidence will then come back and he will be a much better player..

It's really not coming off for him. He's scored one league goal since the beginning of October. One assist from open play all season.

We all want all of our youngsters to make it but it's clearly not good enough playing in his role.

We need more creativity and goals from him.

He's been playing injured for months and is on his first season in a major top flight league, it was always going to take his toll on him at some point.

The youngsters should be the last players being criticized (heavily), they're the reason we're in the driving seat for top four.

Yes he is young and so are his match perfomances from time to time.
Sometimes he makes great runs for him and others as having the vision to pass some nice balls. One thing which he does perfectly is pressing and have the drive to run his soul out.

The thing is thou, i did not expect Mount to play that many games already. I think nobody expected that and there were games where he could have been rested but Lampard choosed not to. It is taking its toll a bit and sometimes his tactical awarness/ discipline is lacking. His output from open play is not good enough yet for the postion he plays. Idk it feels to me there is too much burden on him and nobody is helping him out to carry that weight.

Mount is a world class talent no doubts about it. It's actually amazing that he's capable of playing every game with such high pressing. He will be a real beast in seasons to come, I can't wait to see the full power of RLC and Mount in action.

He’s a talent but I think „world class“ is stretching a bit.

Not for me though. Lampard himself in his first season scored 5 league goals, Mount has that already with more than 10 games left to play and Lampard was older than Mount when he came. Good indication that Mount is really a special talent.

I do think Mount is very underappreciated, but I also think he's playing poor lately. However, he's not the problem, as someone else stated, he's listening to Lampard and performing the correct instructions. He's always pressing and making movement. The trouble is he also lacks quality in many areas, I mean how many times did he gave the ball away last game? He was extremely wasteful, and he needs to do better there. He certainly has talent though, unfortunately he's a scapegoat right now, if you go on twitter, he's the most hated Chelsea player online.

Yes yes but when Lampard was at Mount age (21) he scored 7 goals for West Ham. So what does that indicate now...

Every player is different. 5 league goals from midfield is no such a special number that would make someone look destined for greatness.

Mount could go on to be world class like lamps, or he could have a career like lee bowyer or steven Ireland, 2 players that also scored a similar amount at the same age. Only time will tell.

I don't want to get into an argument where I'm downplaying Mount's potential, since I like him a lot, but the limited comparison to Lampard is a very flimsy premise to be delcaring him world class. Mount is effectively playing the #10 role for us so obviously you'd expect to see more goals from him. If Mount turns out to be half as good as Lampard then I'd be delighted but he's still got a long way to go.

Way too early to judge Mount for me.

His drive early on in the season was crucial to me in embedding Frank's early tactics.

His early ability to score goals has dropped away yet he is still defending and trying to regain possession in the opposition half.

Now other teams are aware of his attacking abilities he is finding it harder to score and needs to develop a bit of trickery to his skill-set and his shots normally just get blocked.

Then you just have to wait and you'll be delighted, I don't see any problem with that.

That doesn't really mean anything though. Tons of midfielders have scored as many goals at this age and none of them have gone on to be as good as Lampard was, the same goes for midfielders that have scored 10+ goals at the same age. Look at Dele Alli, he has been getting double figures in goals since he joined Tottenham, but I don't think he is anywhere close to being as good as Lampard was and I don't think he ever will be.

Just comparing goals doesn't really mean anything, Mount is going to be a very different type of player than Lampard was.

IMO he is slowly walking the same path as Oscar. Too much harassing, pressing and doing off the ball runs but very little improvement in quality. He's a good set piece taker but he really needs to up his game since a No. 10 should be doing way more in terms of scoring/creating chances

I think Mount will benefit from this mid-season break. He has featured in a lot of football this season for a young player. Hopefully he can recharge the batteries a little over the next 2 weeks.

Agree and like Forzby says will be interesting to see how he improves after a rest.

The Deadwood chap that was banned made an interesting remark about seeing a player's upper ceiling rather than how consistent they are. If I look at Mount I see he puts a shift in week in and out yet recently lacks a litte technique or trickery to create a goal.
