Mason Mount

Featured Replies

Played very well. His movement off the ball is so great. Perhaps my favourite part of the game today is his movement for the first goal.

Not sure if this was an old automated movement but when the ball went right he dragged the defender out towards the touchline which opened the channel for the ball to Giroud.

Man of the match. Superb.

Once Frank went with Willian as our second sub I no longer wanted RLC to come on as he could only have replaced Mount. Such was Mounts level I did not want that to happen. Cannot think of a better compliment to him than that.

Or it might be running on to Giroud's knock downs rather than just having to chase down the opposition.

The former puts you on the front foot, hope Frank continues with this experiment a little longer to see if it works.

He is a good player and an unfortunate scapegoat (not on this forum though fortunately). He really improved in the 2nd half also, he's a good engine on him.

Too bad Tammy didn't finish that excellent move

I was thinking of the 2nd goal but you are right that was Vertonghen - Alderweireld was marking Giroud - hell all of those pesky Belgians look alike

Here are Mount's touches vs spuds

Watching this by comparison to last night the lack of movement around him comes through. Whether Bayern just pressed better I'm not sure but there were certainly no link up plays with James like this.

That said he Kovacic and Willy the only ones who could hold their heads high in my view.

He was really poor yesterday, Davies absolutely dominated him. Was put through twice and couldn't do a thing. Simply not good enough, he needs to improve massively to get minutes with Ziyech and RLC next season.

Not sure it was poor from him,. He didn't play brilliantly, but was just outclassed by better opposition. I think our whole right flank underestimated how rapid Davies is. What I would do to have Davies in our side!!

I actually kind of liked Mason's performance. Yes, made wrong decisions time and again in the final phase of the attack but his energy was one of the very few positive things about last night. The lad has the right attitude and if keeps working hard, he'll be some player. These type of hard losses is what turn boys into men. He'll learn.

I agree with @abramovich, Mount was for me one of the best players on the pitch yesterday for us. I loved how he tried, pressed and positioned himself at times to close the passing angle and even forcing errors on Bayern defenders. It was just that Bayern was a much better team, but I don't think that he was as bad as people put him.

I just don't see the hype around him, he can put in a real shift but outside of that passing isn't great finishing is probably worst, okayesh movement.

Had he finished the chances we had in both Spurs and Bayern match we would have had a more dominant victory in turns of score line and probably still be in the tie for CL.

I know they hype English talents alot, ala Rashford, Lingard and the rest and they never live up to the hype at all

Davies was burning up everyone on our right side ... it wasn't just Mount ... it was also James, Azpi, Christensen (for the 3rd goal) ...  that's credit to Davies more than denigration of our lads ...

Well, apparently most people here "kind of liked" his performance and I'm the only one that thinks he was slow in general and didn't see his teammates on multiple occasions. Mason got dominated by a player two years younger than him. Davies is not even in their standard starting XI. If that's good enough for you, fine.

He didn't play in his natural position, I understand that. What I don't understand is how anybody could think that was an acceptable individual performance and even praise him. Seems to me like most here are in denial. Just stop it with the excuses for him.

Frustrating last night as he put in a decent shift, but he isn't the quickest with the ball at his feet.  He was closed down a few times when he should have been looking up for the pass.  I know we want our midfielders to score, but last night I felt is Mason was a little matured, he would have had a couple of assists rather than a couple of frustrating attempts

Extreme pace is one of the key attributes for hurting an opponent, alongside skill/technique. The age of the speedster is irrelevant. Davies scorched our whole right flank, but your derision is reserved only for Mount for some reason.

Bayern were simply better than us all over the park, with only Kovacic looking competitive.

He was one of two players on that flank. But let's not beat around the bush here; do you think Mason had a good game like most others or not?

I feel like he's getting praise for every little thing he does, but when he gets utterly dominated people still somehow like what he does and focus on the others in the team. That's crazy. I realize that I'm not making friends with my opinion here, but I honestly think that was far from a good performance and acting like it wasn't won't help.

I thought Mount was ok, he got interceptions and closed down players.

We got very few chances and Mount had two of them and made poor choices, yet to be fair none of the other younger players played that well either.
