Mason Mount

I don’t think Mount had any intention to extend his contract once it was made clear that he wasn’t going to be the highest paid player at the club, be made club captain, have complete control of image rights, or whatever other demands his father/agent was making.

And what exactly are you basing this incredible insight on, or is it just made up nonsense?

Agree with most of your post, but Mount certainly played his heart out for us until the implosion of the past season. He showed a fantastic attitude and workrate and was a model professional. It must be a bigger issue than just 'getting the hump', but he seems to have made up his mind to jump ship, leaving the club with no option but to cash in, and forever destroying the great relationship Mount had with the fan base.

Yeah. I got carried away a bit in comparing Enzo to Mount. Enzo’s attitude this season has been great and shows the way forward for new players. Just disappointed that Mount  jumped ship at the first sign of problems and wasn’t willing to stay and fight for the club he grew up with and his legacy. It’s not as if he received an offer from Barcelona, Real Madrid or Bayern that was too good to turn down.

If Mason stays, great, if he decides his future is elsewhere, fully understand that. Players careers in football are very short and he will want to be at a club that he believes he can win silverware in.

Is he a judas... Not in my eyes, he helped deliver the Big one and has given his all for the club when he's played, yep, he's had a dip in form this season but then he's played wall to wall football for about three years and through the pandemic.

I rather suspect he may have a talk with Pochettino and could still change his mind if he's given a central role in his plans... Let's face it, why would any player coming to the end of a contract with any club, sign up with the uncertainty that CFC have lived under the past 12 months. I'm sure if he's given assurances by the new manager we may yet have some good news. Fingers crossed from me on it as I'd love him to be about next season.

By far one of our better creators and executors on the pitch, he will offer tons of utility to either us or his future club. Really hoping he has a change of heart and puts pen to paper, he's proper Chels in my humble opinion. Would be a shame to lose him to a rival but that's football and would wish him all the best.

I don’t think I have any special insight. Just pure speculation. Mount rejected a contract before the World Cup. Recent leaks to the press (likely from his sources) suggest it wasn’t high enough, image rights weren’t good enough etc. Shortly after he rejected the club’s offer we bought Enzo and brought in Felix on loan. Maybe it was the club covering itself in case Mount left. Whatever. Mount barely waited for the season to end before negotiating with Man United to leave. It hardly looks like he was willing to listen to the new manager’s plans for him. If the reasons aren’t financial, then you’re left with the Board engineering a situation to force Mount to leave the club with only one year left on his contract or Mount has been disturbed by the way the club has been run. Maybe he really thinks Man United are on the up and Chelsea are in decline. If so I hope he’s wrong about that.

I dont hold it against him for wanting to go whatever the reason, I've wished enough players to go in my time to not be a hypocrite with the boot on the other foot.

However if he does a Mourinho and starts firing shots at us (banging on about how much better United supporters are especially so early also counts given how much support the match going fans have given him) then I will be really pissed off and I'd hope I wouldn't be in the minority.

I mean, if you want to go off journo rumours the story is the board offered him a contract which he agreed in principle and then when he got back from the WC it was off the table. If you want to believe them sources at least use the actual facts of what they're peddling.

This thing about Mount not showing any loyalty?

If there was loyalty in football there wouldn't be a transfer market , and we wouldn't have seen legends like Drogba, Ashley Cole, Azpi, Costa etc .

I wish Mount all the best , the stick he was getting from our fans might also have affected his decision maybe ?

So made up nonsense then, goodo.

Would be very disappointing if a minority of idiots on twitter is the reason he's leaving.

He'll have said minority at United too and unlike here won't get unconditionally backed by the match going crowd if he's not performing.

You have no idea what's in his mind or what has been happening behind the scenes at the club, and yet you judge him as if you know exactly what is going on. That seems to be endemic.

Yeah true mate it's probably not even a factor in his decision.  Although he lost form this season we all know what he is capable of.  But he'll probably fetch the most transfer fee for the club as we try to raise the money to comply with the FFP shortfall.

I can't remember when we last sold a top class young player to our rivals.. maybe Mata ? Although he was  not a youngster !

Fairly certain they were the same age.

I'm still not sure if this is just bad form or early burnout which is why I was hesitant to see us offer a blank cheque, guess we will soon find out.

Torn here. So much said above and agree if he truly bleeds blue, and would be getting a sizable raise, there is more to this. I still think we’d regret his departure, and once again shows how toxic comparisons can be (ie if Sterling makes 350k p/w).

I hope he stays, but then my next question is I still don’t know his best position. I know LW is preferred and he offers a high press, but I’d rather more attacking minding players in that space (Sterling, Mudryk). Always felt Mount should be a no.8, but he’s never really looked stellar in that role.

All that to say this one is complicated.

I really think the club made what they considered to be a good offer to Mount. Reece James accepted a similar offer. It wasn’t good enough for Mount, he got the hump, and decided to leave. The club brought in Enzo and Felix to cover themselves. Felix didn’t work out. But they’ve known Mount was on the way out for months I reckon.

We don’t want players who aren’t willing to fight for the club. In his short time here Enzo has shown more character than Mount ever has. For a player who’s been here since he was a kid, that’s more than disappointing. Reece James had it right. If you’re not willing to stick by the club then it’s best you piss off. Eden Hazard was never a Chelsea youth product but he gave his best years to the club and is a true legend. It’s not all about money, Mason. It’s also about the respect you get from the fans and the legacy you leave behind. You can’t buy that.

I think Reece accepting his offer so quickly had to do with it being a solid offer coupled with his camp coming to the realization that he’s fragile and continued injuries will only knock his value down.

Since he’s come to the senior side he’s missed about as many if not more games/minutes than Pulisic. That’s pretty shocking.

The thing that bothers me the most is that he still has a year on his contract. He has a year to sort out the contract issues, why jump ship now?

I don’t know what’s gone off behind the scenes but I’ve never liked a player so much since the days of Frank and Terry. So of course I feel backstabbed and disappointed.

Personally I'm not too fussed, at best he was another Oscar. He just bloomed early because Lampard played him so much, he's barely improved since then.  People like to mention his POTS awards but lets be real, if he wasn't an academy lad he wouldn't have won those, Thiago Silva and Rudiger have had better seasons these past 3 years.

I'm almost certainly sure he'll flop at United, he isn't as good as Bruno Fernandes to play #10 and he's not very good at playing #8 either.

I think he could work on the right side in a 4231 (assuming he's not already burned out) but that would mean Ten Hag giving up on Anthony so soon which I'm not sure he will do.

Yup they are trying to rip us off. Maybe they are confident Mount would join them for free next summer so feel we have no bargaining power.
