Maybe, but sometimes if you've been played into the ground it's not as simple as just a pre season, damage is already done.

That's why I was excited about the prospect of the short term extension because we could have truly assessed the situation with him once and for all.

He had to basically go to Roman's house and put the sales pitch of the century to convince him to allow it and IIRC Jose wasn't exactly shy in stating it to be a move he didn't want.

Has he actually been played into the ground? It isn’t uncommon for top players to be racking up 2900+ mins in a season, and their levels don’t drop. Mount in the last 4 seasons prior to this, racked up around 10,200 mins, an average of 2550 mins, Saka who is 3yrs younger has racked up 8,700 mins in the last 3 seasons, an average of 2,900 mins, and Salah has racked up 11,800 mins in the last 4 seasons, an average of 2,950 mins. With Salah you also have him averaging around 700 mins in Europe, with his productivity not dropping.

The media have said the club has attempted to restart negotiations with Mount recently, but Utd are convinced he isn’t signing a new contract. That says to me Utd have offered him a ridiculous wage packet we wouldn’t match.

My worry is on top of the minutes are the circumstances around the last few season's.

No proper break in 2020 (lockdown doesn't count), the Euro's in 2021 following a domestic campaign that effectively went on for the best part of a year, the insane schedule of 21/22 then nations league going into mid June followed by having to start this season early and finish it late with an intense world cup in the middle. For someone who's main attribute is his pressing game it's a worry, that's why I'm hesitant to accuse him of suddenly becoming lazy as some have been, it could simply be a case of him having nothing left to give.

Does anyone think there could be something happening at the club which players like Mount & Havertz aren't happy with?  Maybe in the dressing room or a different culture since the new owners have arrived thats pushing players out?  Could it not be conceivable that Mount may have had conversations with Rice and thats why that rumour has died a death?    Its probably exaggerated due to the amount of players coming to the end of their contracts and the need to sell.   However for me there seems to be more to it and I don't believe its lack of CL football.  Its not like everyones jumping ship at Liverpool this summer.

Yeah I don't think Mount has been ran to the ground more so than any other player who's been a mainstay for their club the past 2-3 seasons. TAA was also ran into the ground but still has output. Same with Salah. Same with Saka, Maddison, B.Fernandes, etc.

Mount may be suffering the Oscar syndrome.

Incentivized contracts.

Imagine being paid a small fortune for putting in effort and being good at your job, apposed to getting the same for throwing the towel in at Christmas when you're out of the title race, then blame your failures on the manager or your fellow team mates.  Yeah they could get a none incentivised contract somewhere else but if they put in the effort like they are supposed to and are paid for they'd be rewarded handsomely anyway.  Its like they don't even want to try.

A Salary cap needs to be introduced quickly.  Modern day footballers are spoilt beyond belief and are starting to have the likability and constitution of politicians.  Get paid large sums of money even when you do a sh*t job.

It would need to be implemented world wide for it to work.

I agree the packed schedule and lack of proper recovery time, coupled with major international commitments, has seen several key players looking completely shot (Kova, Mount, Havertz) or constantly injured (James, Chilwell). But on top of that the massive upheaval in the coaching set up and the medical staff has had a huge impact on players' fitness regimes. Our squad as a whole squad has appeared lacking on conditioning and sharpness for a long time now, and we just haven't been able to live with teams who have attacked us with real intensity (Brighton, Brentford, Leeds. Arsenal).

Rectifying this will be a top priority for Pochettino.

At the risk of a certain someone calling me every name under the sun again I'd (as someone who contributes to player wages with my BT package and purchase of tickets) rather money went to even a sh*t player than a billionaire owner pocketing it on top of what they've already got.

If anything should be capped it's transfer fees, but as i said before we as a whole could do something about this by refusing to fund the "vultures". Half the country cancel their sky/BT subscriptions and refuse to pay the obscene ticket prices then where will the money for wages come from?

The US model is really working, just this season a much smaller basketball team won the NBA title, I think that the concept of wage cap and higher taxes for those that step over it, is pretty good. Also interesting the whole drafting process where smaller/bad teams actually get to be first in line after poor performances, it makes the whole sport more heartwarming since it takes a whole lot of planning and sweat to build a winning team out of nothing and it really looks to be more fair... Not like football in Europe where obviously Bellingham can only go to Real Madrid...

Is that why we dropped to the bottom half of the league table once we knew we couldn’t win it.  Bohley thinking we’d be one of the first in the draft for next season.

LOL the club that waited the whole window for Maguire only to end up paying the stupid asking price of 80+ million quid have turned the tables

Bully & Co are now have 2 drivers that the rest of the football world are fully aware of - Chelsea FC require a substantial amount of cash flowing in this summer  to offset FFP and also that 10 + players must leave in order for Morritzio aka Mowww Powwww  to have the squad size he demands.

Therefore I expect this saga to run through to start of next season and then Chelsea to sell Mount for no more than 45 Mill + add ons

P.s. if Bully thinks Gooners will cough up 70 Mill for Kai they will again be disappointed

As for having to sell quality players to EPL Rivals, are they really rivals currently ? I don't know so much.

If you like US model then you should support super league. Because that is the only way this can work.

players used come here for more money.

Ashley Cole most famously!

I don't blame Mount when the likes of Sterling and a couple of others are top earners. That said ALL of them are on obscene wages , comes from the pockets of fans and the public whether it's from sponsors or TV rights or commercial sales or tickets.

If you paid any of them 20k a week would they give up the game to become teachers, plumbers , doctors etc ?

Anyway, it's never really bothered me too much , unless I think about it !

I'm indifferent at this point.

Piecing together various bits and pieces out there, I think Mounts move to United is going to fall through.

Reports are United will submit a final offer worth up to 50mill, including add ons, for Mason, well short of our 70mill valuation, and reported minimum 60mill we would take.

Add to this Pochettino is said to really want to work with Mount, and United set to recieve a huge injector on cash from the new owner where they can go and sign Onanas, Caicedos and Oshimans without a second thought, and I think they will move on.

Let's see if my hunch is right.
