Some good replies - Joe Cole is a particularly good shout, as is Eider G..............

Interesting how many of the best value are defenders, suppose strikers and midfielders often cost lots more - but how many goals did Gazza or Ivan save, not counting the goals they also scored in big games.

If I had to pick one tho, it would have to be big Pete?

Good point and seems childish to criticise the site although perhaps goals scored as a sub would be good to know too.

Kante was an absolute steal, considering during that time the likes of Pogba were being bought for nearly a 100 million.

Kante was a steal but sticking with the bargain aspect I gotta give it to Dave or Cahill. Cahill especially, wow. From Bolton to winning titles and playing for England. He was meant to be a bit of cover when we bought him if I remember correctly. That is the epitome of a bargain buy. 

Shout out to Hazard if we're talking pure ROI, feels like cheating tho. 

Has to be Gullit for me. Cost us nothing and his signing was one of the key factors that eventually transformed us from midtable also-rans into the club we are today.

Agree. What's crazy is we spent more money to buy Michy than on Kante in the same summer period.

The crazy thing about Kante was his release clause was actually £20m, so our bid of £32m was the highest at the time which they had no choice to accept. It goes to show most clubs didn't want to chance him after one good season.

Good list, obi mikel ended up about 12 in the end though, because it went to a tribunal. 

Still a decent fee for so many years of service.

Drogba 24m not a basement bargain but
