Kai Havertz

Well compared to Ziyech and Werner this is taking much longer! Those seemed to be done very quickly

I think the Ziyech deal took quite a bit of time as initially our intention was to sign him during the January window and it fell through and therefore we completed the deal after the window closed. The Werner deal we had to act quickly as at the time Liverpool were favorites and when they dropped out all we had to do was meet the release clause, in the Kai episode we don't have a release clause to meet but negotiate with the club hence the delay.

Clearly BL don't want to sell him now as they think the C-19 discount won't apply next year and BM will come in for him and trigger a bidding war...hence their €90m demand...up to the kid really...tell Voller to wipe the spit from his face and wake up...

Fabritzio Romano said everything is fine between player and club. The fee is the problem now. If Marina has a limit of the budget like €80m and not a penny more the deal might collapse. For me that would be time wasted. We need defensive reinforcements anyway. So if the question is we have 200m to spend so Havertz fee is very important. It could just take time.

The defensive problems should not cloud your judgement guys. We absolutely need this kid. Right now for the three positions behind Timo we've got Mount, Pulisic(assuming he will miss half the season with different injuries), CHO, RLC, Hakim and Barkley. Pulisic and Hakim, the best players out of these, are natural wings, they have no business in the middle, we need them at their best. Mason is a great, great player, but he struggled a lot against the weaker teams last season, what makes you believe he won't have the same type of great performances in big matches and the same mediocrity against the bad clubs? Ross is not a starter, RLC has questionable health and CHO is straightforward unreliable, on top of that he is also a wing, not a player behind the forward.

We should close this deal at any cost.

It's not about it being a decoy. It's letting Leverkusen know we are not wholly invested in Havertz because there are other, similar (arguably better) options. Leverkusen can either sell to us for a fair price, or we can move on and next year they lose Havertz for a pittance.

I wonder what these people would have done during the Gerrard to Chelsea saga!

Sorry but some of these people where around for that saga, not everyone a newbie.

IMO Kai is clearly a top player and that's why we want to sign him, that's why he wants to leave his current club as well... But we're clearly not desperate, if we were we would have paid what Leverkusen wanted already.

It would be great to see him sign for Lampard and make a partnership with Werner and Mount, he fits right in, but he is a luxury signing when we put all the squad together because we are in a bigger need of a LB, CB and a keeper in comparison to an attacking oriented midfielder.

Barkley showed that he can deliver, RLC will come back stronger and once he starts playing aggressive again he will deliver as well, point is Kai is amazing but if we have to wait one more season to get him we can do it just like Bayern is going to do in case he stays in Leverkusen.

With Werner, Tammy and Giroud we have a strong attack capable of getting 40 goals and Ziyech, Pulisic and CHO can account for 35 goals+assists so it really looks like we are just making the best possible deal for Kai, we are in control and it should be a priority to secure at least 2 defensive players, be it a LB+CB or keeper+LB.

Chelsea are in a much stronger bargaining position than most people are giving the club credit for. The fact is, we are one of the only clubs in the world who do not need Kai Havertz, and our financial status will remain strong into next summer's transfer season while others are decimated by COVID-19. Havertz is a luxury signing that potentially allows us to return to the top table much sooner, but he is not an imperative.

Jadon Sancho was likely our primary target, and should Man U fail to sign him we would likely be in pole position to acquire him in January or next season. I wonder if the Chelsea hierarchy see this as a choice between signing Havertz at 70-80m vs acquiring their top target Sancho for 90m. Sancho is a better fit for the team, allowing Pulisic or Mount to play in the centre, whereas Havertz's biggest improvements have come seeing him play as a second striker. Sancho also represents more of a failsafe should Werner or Abraham fail to meet expectations.

One thing I am sure of is that the Chelsea hierarchy know we are spoilt for choice in this market, and therefore they do not need to make quick decisions. 'Losing' out on Havertz only to sign Sancho later would be like missing out on Iniesta and signing Messi instead.

Going into 2021/2022 with a front 3 of Pulisic,Sancho and Werner with Havertz in midfield would be a dream.

I think people have forgotten our games against Newcastle (Away), Bournemouth (Home), Southampton (Home) & West Hame (Home) where we looked completely toothless in front of goal. We needed creativity from our midfield as our front line was deprived of any space in behind, we didnt deserve anything from those games because the midfield just seemed to lack any sort of attacking threat. Our response to a deep block this season seemed to be to pass it around in midfield and at the back either looking to shift teams to create space or invite them to press, when teams didnt do that we looked pretty silly passing it around without much threat.

I agree but at the same time our team next season will have better options in attack by default because Mount and Tammy have more experience, RLC will be fully fit, Werner and Ziyech and healthy Pulisic will deliver more than Willian,Pedro and if Werner is having a hard time we have both Tammy and Giroud...

I do want Kai to come here, very much, but if he doesn't I won't cry about it.

Werner had a buy out clause, and while Ziyech appeared to be done quickly, there were reports afterwards that we tried to it get done in january, so that probably went on alot longer than before it was first leaked.

We have all seen us miss out afyer long drawn out saga's, but i just think this feels very different to the likes of lukaku, sandro, and Koulibaly etc.

The player has asked to leave, the club has said they will sell, every respectable journo is saying its 1 horse race, and we are close to finalizing it.

If he isnt a chelsea player by the time the season starts, i will start to be concerned.

It may just be a case of Leverkusen wanting to bring 1 or 2 in, before every club starts trying to fleece them for the Havertz money.

He will only have a year left on his contract next summer, i think that would affect his potential fee more than covid.

Barkley never scores more than about two-thee goals a season in the premier league he did get 8 one season for Everton) same with Kante and more so for Kovacic and Jorginho. Mount is 8 goals per season.

Havertz is say 15 a season  there is no comparison  to our existing midfielders. on paper Havertz is the new Lampard

I also have concerns that Pulisic  may end up injured a lot of the time. He seems to have one thing after another.

I'm glad you realise ozboy, our midfield is tripe where goal scoring comes into it,plus very one dimensional, Havertz would bring us back to frankie days.

Current Bayer Leverkusen man 😊

I personally cant see Chelsea paying 90 mill of whatever currency up front for this lad

He's an excellent prospect of course and likely the real deal, but with zero punters paying to go into the Bridge since March and who knows when capacity of 42,000 fans will be back ? - not next month imo. And when you are allowed back to live football I hope its restriction free as who really fancies trying to get in line for  beers at 1/2 time, chant and sing and celebrate goals etc. with a face mask on ?

Another burning issue rather than scoring more goals next season how about conceding about 2/3 less and spending any money available in that area of the team ?

This Havertz deal is getting so annoying at the moment. Maybe because i'm a older fan. Maybe when I was younger I could be patient and wait a little longer but seriously this deal is pissing me off at the moment. As a club, we need  the deal, the seasons of mediocre football for me should be over, we should return back to seasons like when we had Costa, Fabregas, Hazard, Pedro, Matic, Kante. We need proven players. We need a real midfielder.

DEADLINE August 28th

If we don't make an offer, Leverkusen won't be selling Kai this window as their pre-season begins by the end of next week.

I hope that the board will support Lampard and sign Havertz + LB.

The whole Bild-article reads as if Bayer are expecting us to submit an official offer in the coming days.

It might be that the clubs have come to agreement now more or less and that the official offer is right around the corner.

Yes but with RM and BM sniffing next summer, they'll try to hold to their price now...I've heard that BL have now set a deadline of 28th August for Chelsea to complete the deal...let's hope we call their bluff...
