Timo Werner

The club website has put out an appeal for fans to bring bags of cement to the training ground today.

It is needed to help Werner develop his trapping and first touch.

Theyve asked for some barn doors and banjos as well apparently.

For me the only positive with him right now is his pace and work rate, he's making runs and stretching the defence, but lower league teams have players like that. We need much more than that from Werner if he's to lead the line. That first half especially he f**ked just about everything up every time he got the ball besides the penalty decision of course, but I think that was more down to Eric Dier being a thick twat than anything.

I've just had Hermes collect some cows' arses and a box of ukeleles

Despite his poor run in front of goal for a debut season he is actually doing fairly well from a statistics point of view. 16 combined goals and assists (9G, 7A) in 30 appearances is a goal contribution every 2 games.

Rather than being negative like rival fans want us to be I'm 100% optimistic. If this is him "flopping' what is he like when he's on form in the prem. I think he is on course to get at least 15 goals and 10 assists in all competitions for his debut season which especially in this crazy season isn't as bad as some would have you believe.

Lastly and this for me is the most important point. It's all well and good asking him to adapt to our style of play and our league...but what has the team done to adapt to him. Yes he has had chances but I'm sure Tuchel as well as us fans are aware that the final pass is lacking. The man always looks to run on thr last line of the def if we attempted more through balls I'm sure he would get more opportunities that are favorable to his style and skill set.

Very few times has he been played through on goal with a vertical ball. Usually he is forced out wide, he has had a few which he has fluffed or netted but for the style of player he is we haven't created nearly enough chances this season that suit the player he is.

The positive is players like CHO, Pulisic, Mount, Kai, Kovq and even Jorgehh +Azpil all have this in their locker the ability to play a quick through ball into space for him to run onto. It's all about coaxing it out on a regular basis. Also playing against so many low blocks also doesn't help Werner or the rest of the team penetrate quickly.

You're incredibly bullish on Werner. Not many more low quality opponents in the FA Cup and UCL to pad his goalscoring stats. If he somehow gets to 15 goals for the season, that would be the greatest turn around in sports history, including Lebron coming back from 1-3 down in the finals against the Warriors.

Way too early to give that verdict, I will keep starting him as we are clearly a more fluid  team with him up top

How much time did you give Morata? A dud is a dud. I don't need to see Werner play 100 games for Chelsea and only score 20 goals to know that. I've gotten a pretty clear picture at this point and he's simply not good enough. I'd rather have Neal Maupay.

We still have 16 games in the league, hopefully a good FA cup run and at least two legs of UCL. What's not to be positive about? Honestly I feel bad for the guy he's not even been at the club for a season and some people have given up on him.

Nobody has given up on him on here, we all feel bad for him, but it's a fine line between feeling bad for him, and feeling like we've been duped. We've tried him in several positions, in different formations, with different players, even different managers. I think we missed a trick when he won the penalty and allowed Jorginho to take it, if he had of buried it like previous penalties it might just of got him going again. We need him firing before we play AM, 3 games to go, needs to click very quick.

I actually think that you got what you bought. Werner is not different than before. He always had spells of low confidence in which he did not score - and than a row of matches in which he scored real big. And he is no central forward - that did not really function in the German national team, too. He mainly was used in combination together with a hard working center forward. His main strength is his speed - not his touch etc. He is exactly showing what he can play - he only is in a bad spell scoring wise.

bit of a bummer that !

Don't think it's true either. His whole game is suffering as a result of his scoreless streak. His touch, passing and movement have declined drastically.

Shows how vital confidence is to a player.

I would not doubt what a German who’s been watching his national team and the German league has to say. A couple of them did say last summer that Werner was a player who needed loads of chances to score and would miss many of them. And that is what we are seeing. So I would not dismiss what these fans come here to say.

^Exactly this the main difference between him and Salah when he joined Liverpool is that Salah got way more opportunities per game. When Salah joined liverpool he missed so many chances but because his movement was so good and his team always looked to find him (not to mention their style if play suited him) he still got loads of goals.

Werner gets maybe 2-3 chances per game (not all of them are clear cut big chances) and for an out of form player that's just not enough. Add to the fact he constantly makes runs and isn't found by team mates enough I can see why his confidence is shot. Either they don't trust him to finish or themselves to make the defense splitting pass.

I don't think his teammates trust him.

So basically, he's overrated?

Because if heeds a lot of chances to score, I don't see what all the fuss is about then. He offers very little other than his pace and if he can't score goals this just looks like a waste of money.

I’m just saying that what a few Germans have already said here, they were not downplaying the goal scoring capacity of Werner, but said that he could score a lot and miss a lot of chances. Whether that’s overrating or not depends on how many chances we create and, as a couple of posts above, whether he goes through a dry performs or not. But so far, do you think he is meeting the expectations most in here had?

I'm not saying they're lying by the way. I'm actually gutted what some of them are saying because it sounds like this is what we're going to get from Werner.

I don't think he necessarily needs a goal to up his confidence. Hopefully he'll feel better after that performance and the next time he's in front of goal he'll bang it in.

Today he played the role of two inside forwards, and did brilliantly. He didn't click with Giroud, but i reckon he could do better with Abraham who is more mobile and leaves space by pulling defenders with him.

He was fun to watch tonight. I was glad he was on the pitch.

Did he get a knock? Or was that bandaging of the leg after he was subbed they showed on my stream just part of some fancy pants new age warmdown?

Also why wasn't that a red for Ramsdale?
