Would not say he deserves to start, more that him and Havertz are simply less bad options that lukaku.

Werner - work ethic and movement but useless in front of goal.

Havertz - spells in and out of the game, can chip in the odd goal and assist but gives away stupid fouls.

Rom - no work ethic, no movement. Decent at defending set pieces.

When a poor player doesn't play for a while people always tend to forget about how bad that player was.

Personally I think Werner will start tonight. 
For his pace alone against this Normally nippy Lille side.

We are stuck with him unfortunately and would probably struggle to recoup half his original transfer value, even if we could find someone interested in taking him.

Abraham was by no means the complete striker package but I think there was a lot more potential to work with than Werner. Certainly in terms of technical ability and natural finishing.

It both surprising and yet unsurprising he was so low down on the pen takers list.

I guess the biggest surprise is that TT went with him rather than CHO.

His technical skill is very poor. You really does not want him on the ball whatsoever

Told you, even VS a tired team with space he is terrible. Always bloody offisde too.

Even his penalty looked weak and should have been saved. His confidence looks worse than ever. Even without the goals last season, he was contributing in other ways to make up for it, but now, he's just a liability sadly. He doesn't offer a single positive thing to our game anymore. 

I am one who said we should try him through the centre for a few consecutive weeks as an alternative to a failing Lukaku and I stand by that.

However I wish people would stop talking about Turbo Tim. I can only assume the German league is full of defenders with the pace of Teddy Sheringham as the last time Werner beat anyone for pace it was a pro celeb game and he was up against Christy Brown. 

We could shift him and Lukaku in the Summer (if at all possible) and we'd never regret it.

Don't get me wrong as he's generally been woeful, but his last two late cameos have been pretty good I thought. He seemed to be better with his hold up play (using his body better) and his touch/control looks sharper. Would actually like to see him get a few more minutes as a sub as long as he keeps it up.

That or whenever we come up against Southampton.

Really had enough of this guy. He's just woeful with no football brain at all.

Now watch him go to Liverpool and score 30 goals a season.

He 100% needs to leave to somehow try to get his career back on track.

Don't think we'll be able to get very much for him at all. There is also a problem with his massive wages so you could potentially face a situation where he needs to be loaned out again and we subsidize wages again to get rid of him. He earns almost £300.000 a week here and no one in the universe is going to offer him anything close.

In truth he makes things "stop" far more often than he makes things "happen".

His touch and control last night were laugh out loud funny. Numerous times the commentators and pundits remarked on it. There was one instance in the first half where he tried to take a dropping ball on the edge of our own area and he didn't even get a foot to it. Similarly for the first goal, where you claimed it as an assist, he actually mis-controlled the ball when he was running with it allowing the defender to get his foot on it but he just pushed it into the path of the on-running Saul.

Fortunately, Tuchel seems to have accepted his extreme limitations and is only using him as a last resort when no else is available or other players needs a rest.

Our first goal was a perfect example of a bogus assist stat. Werner did improve after his goal but only after having fluffed most of his lines previously.

Just looked through the match thread. Now I admit I miss a lot of comments whilst watching but somebody has edited your comment out telling us how well Werner was doing prior to his goal.

He’s a shockingly bad footballer, nowhere near Chelsea standard. He’s had long enough to show us what he can do, it’s time for him to leave.

Frankly, he could have been sat in the corner eating a sh*t sandwich for all I care, if he delivers 2 assists and a goal during a game, then it is a pretty decent nights work, and integral to us winning the game. 

Werner wasn't great for much of the match, yet he scored and made 2.

Others were also not great for much of the match, yet didn't score or make any assists.....

...and yet, even with his "severe limitations " he was integral to Chelsea winning the game. 

I don't care if the assist was as the result of mis control, as long as he gets the assist. 

I don't care if he has 2 left feet and can't hit a barn door 99 times out of 100, as long as he keeps making things happen (as he did last night, as he did last season), and we keep winning (as we did last night, as we did in the champions league last season).

HHhhhmm. I don't see how he can get the assist for the first goal Jim. One, he didn't make the pass. Two, he didn't get the last touch before the goal.

You are right though in a way. He never seems to get bothered by the ball bouncing off him time and time and time again. Personally I do find humour in watching his efforts to try and go round an opponent from a standing start. It's always the same technique. Kick the ball past and then run into the player. He's not exactly Pat Nevin in his wing play trickery.
