August 26, 20205 yr Over rated player who'd never get this fee if he wasnt Engli.......oh wait, it's confirmed that we've signed him? He's going to become the best LB in the league enroute to picking up the PL title next season!!!
August 26, 20205 yr Lot of doom and gloom merchants. Good signing for us, he's young, home grown. Not to mention the best English and Chelsea left back of all time thinks he's going to do the business. Trust Ash and Lamps over most. Welcome Ben Edited August 26, 20205 yr by Chelsbear
August 26, 20205 yr Time for conjecture is over. I wish him a very successful career with us that proves a lot of us wrong. Let's hope we've finally found the heir to the Cole crown. Edited August 26, 20205 yr by Spiller86

August 26, 20205 yr Welcome Ben, show passion for the shirt, give it your all. I think he is a solid investment..

Kind of reminds of me of another Danny Drinkwater Oh I wonder who these cheaper quality LB’s are, why have you never mentioned them before?

August 26, 20205 yr Disappointing attitude from some sections of the Chelsea support but I'm sure Ashley Cole will remind him that no one thought he was worth a starting spot over Wayne Bridge in 2006, let alone worth Chelsea's best defender + cash.

August 27, 20205 yr Happy with this signing for sure! Already knows the league and is still young and can get even better!

August 27, 20205 yr Is there already an estimation when he would be able to re-start to train? Having that injury.

Welcome Ben I'm happy to give him a fair chance like I would anyone else but I really don't like the argument of "Lampard chose him and he knows more than us". He does but everyone's liable to make errors, even Ferguson made some spectacular mistakes in the market in his time (take CR7 out and his 2003 window makes our 2017 one look amazing, for example). Honestly, in my opinion, the reaction to this from Chelsea fans (apart from one) is healthy. There's strong skepticism but everyone's remaining open minded and still fully behind Lampard, that's a far better outlook than where a significant number of us were under Mourinho where most of us (me included) just accepted everything he did because "it's Jose he knows best".
August 27, 20205 yr Again Ashley cole rated him as good left back. Frank wanted him alone. These two legends rated him highly. Have good ball control, not too one footed, have great cross in him, have the engine to move up and down, have good pace. What is not to like as left back in him. Great addition to our young squad with PL experience. Welcome to blue Ben boy. Edited August 27, 20205 yr by Keda

August 27, 20205 yr Good signing, right age to improve and fills a slot we have been lacking for a few seasons. Hopefully his injury won't impede his vital settling in period.
August 27, 20205 yr @coco can we get the Ben Chilwell thread from the rumours section merged with this one? I enjoy going back to the messages from when we were linked with him about a year later and see who was right or wrong and its locked over there now.
August 27, 20205 yr I can kinda see why some fans aren’t majorly thrilled (although no need for outright insults) because we could end up with another Sidwell, Drinkwater, SWP, Parker (not his fault, it was that injury) situation in terms of English signings but we could also end up with a Lampard, Ashley Cole or Joe Cole. I think he’ll do well and if he’s got a manager who believes in him I really do think that will help.

He’s already much better than we have now and he’s only 23. He’s going to nail down the LB position for many years, I think it’s a brilliant signing.
August 27, 20205 yr Welcome Chilly-B, Time to prove all of the naysayers and doubters wrong. It’s a process and it’s going to take time to settle in with the boys but he is only going to get better. £45M is a decent business as well. I don’t get why some people are still moaning and calling him sh*t and whatnots. He’s a Chelsea player now, let’s back our players. Can’t wait to see him play. It’s a brilliant signing, I’m happy. LFG
