I wasn't fussed on him when we first signed him either, he just seemed overrated. 

Very glad I was wrong on him though, and we actually missed Chilwell the most last season, not James. When Chilwell was out injured that's when we started to lose games, before that we were demolishing Juventus and walking through the league.

Chilwell on media duty again after the game, and I really like how articulate he is, and how level-headed he comes across as.  He strikes me as one of the players setting the right performance expectations behind the scenes.

I remember before we signed him that so many people (myself included) were wary of him signing because he didn't seem like the kind of player to elevate us, but he's proved so many wrong. He and James are so key for us. 

Always said he is a cracker of a leftback ever since we signed him.

maybe if and reece stays fit until the end of the season we may have a chance in champions league

Spot on SF. Very similar to Lamps and Cech in that respect.

Chillwell has been excellent since his return. We are a totally different team when he and Reece James are on the pitch.

Luke Shaw has been superb for England to be fair. Next to Kane, Rice and Pickford (and now Bellingham) he's been 'first name on the teamsheet' material.

He's just not been fit at the crucial moments. Had he stayed fit up til the world cup I wouldn't have been surprised if he started. 

My fear is on his contract. Not long left, need to get him signed up.

Feels very "moneyball" to sell the star who misses a lot of games, has 2 years left of his contract and has the richest club in the world sniffing around.

He's on a pretty hefty deal already ! I'd be surprised if any new deal would be much of an increase, given the direction Boehly seems to be moving in on wages and contracts.

Going from Chilwell to Maatsen would be a huge downgrade right now.

He's on £190k atm, could see him going to £220k or so.

I agree, but would a data analyst agree when looking at how many games Chilwell plays in a season?

And the contract issues won't be around the number. It'll be about the structure of that number. And that's where we might find ourselves in a sticky situation. 

If we offer let's say 180+80 in add ons, Chilwell might think "I'm not guaranteed to play that much with my injury records, I could get 250 guaranteed somewhere else"

Do you not think other clubs would be thinking the same when offering him a contract? Not to mention the fact they'd have to pay a hefty transfer fee too. He'll get more money resigning than moving elsewhere, same with Mount.

Replace arguably the best LB in the league with a championship player and expect Potter to compete on all fronts?

He's on 2 years left and City are inquiring. That is it. Chilwell is a valuable asset much like Reece and I don't see any issues in this getting sorted. 

He's a Chelsea lad - extend his deal.  When fit hes a different class down the left side - great engine and just consistent as they come.

He's apparently already the best paid left back in the PL (Cucurella is 2nd)  ... I'd be surprised if he's able to negotiate higher than he is currently on, especially with his injury record.

Clubs don't really spend huge money on wages for full backs ... even the likes of City and United.

City are pushing for him apparently. Would imagine that makes a new deal for Ben a priority in the summer.

Be interesting to see what he thinks of it all. Chance to play for Pep, basically a guaranteed PL winners medal or several, would he want to jump ship?

If he does and City put 80mill+ down on the table I could see it happening. His amortized FFP remaining cost is sitting at 20mill in the summer, would act as 60mill FFP profit.

I don't want it to happen, but none of us could say City is not a level or two above us right now, is part of why we were so desperate to get Enzo in Jan in case them or Real made a move in the summer
