This was a good season to challenge for the title and I was hoping we would after our summer spend, but it's gone to sh*t.

Our squad had the talent to take this opportunity unfortunately Frank has made too many selection and team management mistakes that have cost us.

I really don’t understand how United are second with game in hand. They are so bad but getting results.

Gotta hope their form will drop.

The last couple of times I've seen Man Utd they looked quite a lot better than earlier in the season, when they were often shambolic and got through games through sheer cheating grit or luck (which isn't an inconsequential skill in and of itself). Now, more often than not, they deserve to win, or are at least the superior team. Compare that to how they utterly (and hilariously) imploded in the Champions' League.

It has surely helped that Solskjaer has managed his squad so well, which was something he did very poorly towards the end of last season. The only two players who have started their last six games are Maguire (their captain) and Fernandes (their talisman). Everyone else has been rested at least twice, apart from Rashford, who was only rested for the cup game against Everton. Some players are being outright alternated (Shaw/Telles, Matic/McTominay, Pogba/Fred, James/Greenwood), and their performances have benefited from it.

Compare Man Utd's injury record this season (ignoring perennial crocks Rojo and Jones) to our endless parade of muscle injuries from players not being rotated effectively or being over-trained. The squad depth and quality of both sides is comparable, I don't think you can make a serious argument that we have simply been more unlucky or that our players are naturally more injury-prone - Man Utd's have simply been managed better.

This isn't to have a crack at Lamps - it's just what one should expect when considering or comparing a manager in his third season and one who has been doing that job for over a decade.

I think Utd are now 9 matches unbeaten in the league and I like what I have seen of Telles and Cavani looks in good form.

If Fernandes stays fit they might yet genuinely challenge.

It will be interesting to see how they perform against Villa.

Gary Neville said it right when he said he’s not sure how United are even in this position. Sums it up well I think.

I suppose we should be thankful as they’ll never win the league or do anything serious under Ole.

Hmmmmm...........

You would have got laughed at by all for suggesting that OGS's United could get anywhere near winning the PL, but as bizarre at it may sound, they now look in as good shape and position to do so as anybody.

If united win the league I wouldn’t be too bothered Oli has gotten so much sh*t it would be poetic justice sticking two fingered up to all his haters.

I think it wouldn’t go down too well at the hall’s of Stamford bridge though judging by the spending that was done.

no way united sqaud is better than ours

Oh god here comes the OGS love in.

I'm not being funny, but OGS already inherited a lot of LVG and Mourinho players, and got to buy players on top of that. United won't win the league, far too inconsistent for it and they keep riding their luck. Once they're put to the test, they are going to crumble. The only two teams that can win it right now are Liverpool or City, my bet is on Liverpool to win it despite their sh*t performances. But City could definitely challenge for it if they get their act together.

United on the other hand, no chance, as soon as they're at the top, it won't last long.

Ole is not a good manager and his football has not been great, they may look good in patches but ultimately their usual performance is quite average.

Take away VAR advantages from Liverpool and they still challenge for the league (like this season? I haven't been keeping up) but take it away from Utd and they toil in midtable.

Squad may not be better than ours but they have had players performing really well at times this season and have a lot more attacking options than we do (and seem to be fairly lucky with injuries too - maybe not luck, maybe down to better rotation?)

In Fernandes they have THE form midfielder in the PL. Add to that Pogba, when he is in the mood and then the options of Rashford, Martial, Greenwood and Cavani - there is some proper strength in depth there.

read a journo today saying that if United won tonight and got into 2nd place it'd be the first time since 1997 that Liverpool and United were the top 2 - he added that this would be the shot in the arm the Premier League and the TV companies desperately need..........
