He was the reason we concede against Spurs in fa cup and it was typical emerson.

I don't rate emerson but for backup he is fine plus we still have Azpi.

Yes, but he played well against Sevilla and, if I remember correctly, came on pretty early against West Ham when Chilwell got injured and he did not cock up. I’m no fan of him and think we need an upgrade, but I’d rather he played than see Alonso after his disrespect of the team. That’s all I’m saying.

No he hasn't, he's been terrible and a defensive liability.

I’m no fan of him, but I’d still have him on the bench than Alonso because he has shown more respect for the coach and team. He wasn’t that bad defensively against Sevilla and West Ham, not great, but still can be a useful bencher.

He is just so ordinary you now. 💁‍♀️

Yes, he is and we need an upgrade. I just prefer to have him on the bench over Alonso for the attitude Alonso had towards his team mates and coach. Just like I’d ratepayer have Caballero over Kepa. That’s all I’m saying!

I think double pivot is simply mean you play two midfield rather than 3. Probably more relevant defensively rather offensively because offensively you can change around easily.

It means you play with 2 defensive midfielders, not 2 central midfielders. Sure, when attacking things can change and one of the DM can become a number 8 for example, exploiting or cover some spaces, depending on the tactics.

We played a double pivot here for years he calls it a double 6 and said he didn’t want to play kante as a single because it restricts his role he wants him winning it back all over the pitch to help recycle in attacks too...it makes sense

Given Tuchel is a self confessed tactical guru I'd be very worried if he said Kantes best position was anything else, or worse, said sitting DM (single 6).

You need a one on one lesson with @moi to teach you what a plural word is. Don’t worry, she’s firm but fair.

If he is having a one on one lesson with moi, I am not letting him get on top!

So similar to when Johnny Bumstead and Nigel Spackman were paired together?

These newly invented tactics and formations are certainly an education for us older folk.

Yes, it makes sense. You can use 2 pivots in many ways. The players are not stuck in a position on the field, especially when you do counter-press. Kante has the energy to cover large spaces of the pitch. If the other pivot rooms from his position, Kante can cover and vice-versa.
Given that we play with an advanced bottom line, one of them can play closer to the attacking line or press the opponent. For example, the flanks will go up a lot and in case we are caught on the counterattack, a central defender will cover the pone flank and a pivot will take his place in defense. The second pivot will come and cover the space between the enemy forward and the others that come in support. Depending on the situation, maybe even the pivot will block the man in the flank for example.
I think Billy will be very suitable for this position playing alongside Kante. Probably not this season, but I expect to see him start next season in many matches. My only thought is that they are both small. I think of Ampadu too, but I don't know how he is doing today.

Gallagher would be a good partner for Kante in a pivot.

If Big Sam drops him again tomorrow we should seriously consider recalling him by deadline day, especially if Billy goes out on loan.

I am still left disappointed we did not get to see Yorkleys 2-3-5 system. Silva is worth more than 2 defenders anyway.

It does not matter if they are called dm or cm.

It just mean usually with 2,you defend in 44 shape where as in 3 you defend in 45 shape (although some team still prefer to defend in 442 shape, pool is a good example, Salah rarely trackback)

Bluehaze I think it's fairly easy to understand what Dragos and Argos are hypothesizing here if you have a basic grasp of these newly invented tactics.

What they haven't suggested though is that Tuchel could also dispense with Silva and play Jorginho as a false no:5 behind the double 6 / treble 6 swoggle-pivot. This would mean the wing backs could protect the 10 yard space by the corner flags which would give Werner the time to go across the road to get Tuchel a packet of fags and a newspaper. Of course this formation would be more of a 4/5 deflection pincer which no manager has utilised effectively in the Premier League.

It's using to see football hipsters talk isn't it, it's like they've only recently invented these positions. Regista this, low block that, double pivot....its been played the same way for decades.

I'm looking forward to seeing the 4-4-2 being renamed to a "quad double pair" formation...
