January 30, 20215 yr Regardless of our stances towards this change I think we can all agree the media attitude towards Tuchel has been dispicable Even the part of our fanbase that were truly outraged by Frank's sacking have been mature enough to know it's not Tuchel's fault and he merely got offered a job and accepted it, the media however have been taking their frustration on Frank's sacking out on him. And the funny thing is Frank clearly holds no ill will against Tuchel and even messaged him good luck, so he's probably embarrassed by their behaviour himself. Harry Redknapp's comments especially were truly outrageous, for an actual manager to disrespect a colleague like that....

There was an article on the athletic from that bloke Frank called out having a go at the fans for their treatment of Rudiger without acknowledging the fact he and his colleagues were the guys who stirred the pot and printed unsubstantiated bollocks in the first place...

What isn't fine is his open disrespect of a colleague, it's an unwritten rule in football that fellow pro's respect eachother!

January 30, 20215 yr I loved seeing Frank as our manager as much as anyone on here but I'd like to show some fairness to the board and Tuchel. There seems to be this very popular thought pattern on the forum: If Tuchel fails to make Top 4, sacking Frank was stupid because we could have just as well stuck with him till the end of the season and change managers then. Now I simply disagree with this. First of all, Tuchel cannot be expected to lead us to Top 4. We're 7 off Liverpool and 9/10 points off Leicester/ManUtd with 18 games to go. I don't think it's impossible, but if Tuchel made top 4 in his first half-season that would be a similarly incredible achievement to Conte winning the league in his first full season. That doesn't mean that we can't benefit from the next 5 months. We're in the cup and Champions League, if we don't make top 4 we might still make Europa League, and we will start our next season under Tuchel with a huge head start. Mourinho took over at Spurs 11 pts off the top 4 with 26 games to go. He only cut the distance to 7 points, but if you ask Tottenham fans today I bet they wouldn't have preferred for Mourinho to only take over in the summer. Secondly, I can kind of get the timing of the sacking. Our non-stop struggles started mid december against Everton. In the 6 weeks and 9 games that followed, not only did our results not improve, our performances didn't either. That's what got me the most. The was no change of approach, no break of routine, no back-to-basics that could have been the foundation of a change of form in the long term. We had a 10 game span of performances, ok that can happen, but far worse I couldn't see how the following 10 games would be any different. In reflection, even at our best of times under Lampard, we rather outwrestled our opponents than dominating them with a clear plan and philosophy. Ultimately I came to the conclusion that to reach the very top, we didn't only need our young squad to grow and gain a few season of experience together, we also needed Frank to turn into a top class manager by learning on the job for a few years, with no guarantee of it eventually happening. You might argue that should have been clear even before signing Frank, but there are actually some young managers entering the business with a very clear and sharp tactical idea, Frank just didn't turn out to be one of them. That doesn't mean he won't work his way to becoming a great manager. If in 4 months we haven't won a title and finish the season in 6th, but we finally are a well-oiled team that small and big teams fear playing against, I won't hold that against the board nor Tuchel. I'll be looking foward to the season following.

Well I just plainly disagree with that. It was nothing less than a fantastic first season achievement by Frank, but obviously it's easier to reach top 4 when taking the job 2 months before matchday 1 than taking over in the second half of the season, trailing almost ten points

Incredible achievement having lose Hazard but we also had the new signing of Pulisic and only 3 of our academy players were mainstays (Tammy, Reece, Mount) alongside more experienced players in Dave, Kovacic, Willian and Giroud.

Very little people had high hopes for Pulisic and nobody expected him to be that good in his first season. Him being a Hazard replacement was laughed at. So to Lampards credit, he handled the Pulisic situation very well. What he did in his first season can't be understated, a great job. But the season after not so much, it's all good having a good run, but December pretty much undone all of that and big questions were raised over our diabolical form/performances. But regardless, we have to put the Lampard situation behind us for the time being, too many scars. I think now is not the time to be giving what ifs and whatabouts, have to hope and pray Tuchel finds a way to rectify this season. The pressure is on.

He does his role quietly in the background and allows players like Kante to flourish. Even when he was here quite a few people used to call for him to get dropped and play Fabregas and Kante instead & a lot of the time we would get completely bullied in midfield and Conte would have to bring in Matic. Matic is so underrated it's absolutely unreal, just look at the impact he has had on Scott Mctominay, seems like he has learnt so much from observing and playing next to someone like Matic. Kante has just not been the same without Matic next to him to offer some protection to the backline and physicality to the midfield. This reminds me what a classic DM should be like, in the words of Vicente Del Bosque: "You watch the game you don't see Busquets. You watch Busquests you see the whole game". Bakayoko had a high amount of tackles per game for Monaco but part from that he wasn't the player we needed at all. You simply can't have a player there that can't pass the ball, this is why Tuchel already said that he sees Kante at his best with another DM where Kante would have the freedom to play his natural game, this was maybe Lampard's biggest mistake - to try and make a 30 year old Kante into a player that he has never been.

To be fair to Lampard, Pedro and Willian were leaving so he really needed wingers for the next season, maybe what made little sense is that he only bought Ziyech and not 1 more winger. That proved to be too much of a risk when both Pulisic and Ziyech were injured at the same time.

Lets not forget we also had CHO who struggled at times with injuries and putting in decent performances. I think sometimes luck plays a part and Frank ran out of it this season, I hope it does not put him off managing a different club again.
January 30, 20215 yr Looking at the table, top 4 will be difficult. We basically need to go on a big run whilst beating our rivals home and away.
January 30, 20215 yr I’m seeing this talk about a DM, and imo there really isn’t many better DM’s than Declan Rice. Nothing spectacular or fancy, he just does his job and he is pretty damn effective at it.

Wenger and Mourinho comes to mind as a very high profile example of that not being the case. I'm very happy for Harry to stand up for his family (noting that no one much cares what he thinks). Media were always going to have a field day with "favourite son is brutally sacked after 18 months in charge". You'd be naive not to think that, particularly given Frank seems to be pretty much universally liked among the pundit class. We deserve what we get for our stupidity and Tuchel is collateral damage. Tuchel's a professional. He'll be used to that from the French press. Up to him to get results and prove them wrong.

Since Tuchel has arrived I have seen us being linked with 22 year old Dayot Upamecano who can play as a CB or DM, not sure if there is substance behind this or just a creative media. Yet not heard anything else apart from Haaland who every other top club is monitoring as well.

Rumor I saw recently - Roman promises that he will try to get Haaland for Tuchel if he manages to finish top 4.
January 30, 20215 yr Media should be unbiased and we shouldn't sleep on one ear about this. It affects not only football, but also society in general. I know Harry can be very influential in the media, but I don't think it's good for Frank. People will get a certain idea because of this. I think Frank wants Chelsea to succeed and would give Tuchel all the inside information if he asked.
January 30, 20215 yr Only one way to shut the haters up and that is by getting the team firing again. Hopefully tomorrow can be the start of an incredible winning run for the team.
January 31, 20215 yr Thinking ahead a bit (a lot) if the reports are true that one of the reasons for the Lamps fallout with Marina was the use of Kepa then that's not good. While i'm confident he'll never be #1 again (certainly not under Tuchel) i very much doubt the board will be in a rush to bring in a new back up which will mean guess who's between the sticks when Mendy heads to the AFCON next season?
