I read that it could be a move designed to put pressure on UEFA and the CL changes as that’s due to be finalised.

Can anyone offer an alternative view of the benefits of the breakaway?

Cash money, dollar dollar bill y'all.

That's about it for the benefits.

Exactly. Other than more money for the über wealthy clubs and those laying in the cut, what other tangible benefits does this offer?

It’s basically what our society is all about. Ripping the heart out of something fundamental to hundreds of millions of people for the benefit of a tiny minority who were already prosperous.

I'm still reeling from this news and it appears quite complex, so forgive me for any ignorance of the minutia of details.

What would you do if you were the premier league? Kicking out the teams that are involved seems obvious, but who will tune in to watch Burnley v Norwich every week? This spells disaster for the premier league, and the clubs are the ones holding all the cards as far as I can see.

there will always be a team that plays good football that will come along. Like Leeds, Leicester or Bournemouth (at one point)

It's not like the clash between Big 6 or Top 6 have been great football either

Nobody wants it apart from the scumbags at the top of the clubs involved. I feel embarrassed as a Chelsea fan that we’re involved in trying to kill the sport just so some millionaires/billionaires can get an even bigger house.

This is exactly how I feel...embarrassed.

What happens when the fa, uefa and fifa all put pressure in broadcasters to not pay these guys, the money could run out and the likes of Mr A will cut his losses and leave us in the sh*t

The proposed new league is nothing to do with UEFA or FIFA. So most likely anybody involved (clubs or players) will be shunned by these organizations. Likely will mean players involved can no longer represent their national teams.

It will destroy the sport from the inside out. The clubs left will be in a lesser competition and will struggle to get the sponsorship and tv deals to survive. The elite league will get tv money and sponsorship initially, but people will lose interest and I think it will go the same way as the American soccer league of the late 70's/early 80's

The scary thing is that the superclubs have so much leverage.

How in the world are the Spanish FA supposed to ban Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico from La Liga for example? It would effectively ruin the league.

Same goes for here in England, The FA can't afford to ban all six teams either. The league would likely lose way too much money to even survive.

But the Spanish and English FA's also have to do what UEFA/FIFA request or their teams may face exclusion from international competition.

Also imagine a situation where the English FA lets these clubs stay. They will prioritize the European competition and likely play reserves in domestic competition. The league will feel more like the Carabao cup.

This is all speculation. I am old enough to know not to pass judgement until all the facts are on the table.

I am skeptical about the timing though because UEFA was meant to unveil their new format for the Champions league commencing the year 2024 tomorrow . This might just be a show of power from the big clubs who dont want to share the pie with the smaller teams but like i said i will wait till the facts are on the table before i pass judgement

World Cups or Euros wouldn't be the same either really if you somehow managed to ban the biggest stars.

Interesting that FIFA so far is the only big organisation yet so make a statement as well.

The clubs have already signed up though and reportedly each get 310million for joining. Which facts aren't on the table yet?

UEFA and FIFA have already responded along with the Premier League. The only thing left is the execution and announcement.

Have you seen these signed documents? Has Chelsea football club come out and said anything. Like i said it is all speculation but  you are free to take it as fact

Bayern Munich and PSG aren't joining so I'd argue there are a lot ot stars left. And there's also the response of the players to being potentially banned by the governing bodies

The Tottenham FC website have announced they are having an open top bus parade next Saturday to celebrate. A commemorative DVD and "European Super Club"  Tottenham team shirt will also be available in the club shop.
