I don't share that optimism tbh, but Lukaku may change things for him

We begin to be more ruthless I think with Lukaku. Giroud has his positives but he isn’t in the same league as Lukaku with regards to physicality, attitude, energy, the list is endless. Lukaku would be bullying centre halfs, he would be outpacing them (he’s ridiculously deceptively fast), outjumping them on corners, crosses etc.

 

Hopefully we can have a bit of a feast in this second half!

That ball Werner just played across the box is the sort of ball you’d think an actual striker would be waiting for. Shame we haven’t got one on the pitch!

Alonso has been fantastic, Jorginho has been fantastic, mount is clearly our best player today

Other than that goal Pulisic has been awful and timo is timo

Not a vintage attacking display but we got the goals and we look extremely comfortable at the back. A lot of players not long back their holidays, I would expect it’ll take a few weeks for us to see our best. In the meantime it’s all about results so we’re off to a good start 45 minutes in!

Not the most entertaining first half, but we dominated it, they barely had any touches in our half.

Alonso and Mount have been our best players. Jorginho is having a good game too. Hopefully we show some urgency at the start of the 2nd half to kill the game off early.

Isn’t Lukaku the same? Seem to remember much piss taking when he was at ManU. 

Winning the CL has given our team a belief I haven't seen before from this group. We look commanding, Jorginho's even attempting beautiful passes forward.

The Alonso goal was inch perfect and good from Pulisic, always alert to spills.

I might not rate Lukaku as highly as some people but he can score 30 goals regularly with our team behind him

Good half

Alonso having a great start to the season and nice to see him on the score sheet again with a cracking strike.

Mount with that one-two put in a great cross for the second, Werner's run panics the defense and Pulisic follows up to score.

Worth our lead yet Palace have offered little so far.

He needs to improve, but he is involved in a goal again when he makes the goalkeeper slip the ball to Pulisic. 

Great stuff so far. We have totally, totally dominated, and are actually winning to boot!

We haven't conceded a shot, have had nine of our own, and I don't think Palace have even had a touch in our box yet.

The midfield have been very good in closing down the space and quickly winning the ball back whenever Palace try to break. This in turn has allowed the wing-backs to take up more dangerous positions in their half, which we have used to great effect. Mount and Alonso in particular have been fantastic so far.

My only worry at the moment is fatigue and a subsequent drop-off in the second half. Hopefully we won't see a collapse like we did against Villarreal in midweek.

Good first half. Completely controlled the game. We still don’t create great chances, but given first game of season and absent players, can’t complain at all 2-0 at HT. Another couple of goals would be a strong start. 
 

Very pleased we signed Lukaku. Definitely need a player that wants to be in the box. 

Michael Owen talking sh*t as usual. He didn't think it was a freekick even when Mount was clearly caught on the toe. He says it shouldn't be enough make somebody fall to their feet..........this is coming from somebody made of glass and would get injured just from running.
