Chelsea v Liverpool (League Cup Final) Sun 27th Feb 2022 16:30 GMT

Featured Replies

One of those games that could have gone either way today. We had plenty of decent chances but also rode our luck at times. We did so well to keep their danger men so quiet and should have won it before the penalty shoot out. Always a lottery and I thought a few of ours were going to miss but both our and the dippers were great penalties until that fatal 10th one.

Would love to get revenge now by meeting them and knocking them out of CL.

Apart from losing the final, the thing that is annoying me most is that we just can't get one over these c**ts anymore. We outplay them time and time again but never seem to take away the win. Today was like the Super Cup against them all over again, with the same outcome, we lose on pens.

If you're going to lose a game that you didn't deserve to lose, you'd rather it happen against the footballing aristocrats of Liverpool.

Said no-one ever.

Jimmy must be feeling very outnumbered by this Liverpool tv coverage. Can’t even say Thiago silva is slightly better on the ball than van dijk without being shouted down.

I decided that I wasn’t going to watch any of the coverage and watched the match with the sound down

Of course it was a tactical master class from a brilliant Liverpool, and Chelsea got what they deserved because of their  dirty Russian money.

No question we were robbed though. This was clearly on.

I was shocked by that.........

Anyhow very close match and not very often all outfield players take the penalty.

Thought we played well, was surprised to see Alonso start yet also don't recall him getting caught out.

Mount just back from injury could have scored a couple yet was so close not sure how you can criticise too much and other players also has chances.

Not sure either on that VAR against VVD, fine margins.

Well we still have plenty to play for as in two more cup competitions.

Football sadly doesn’t work like that. We were supposed to get our revenge from them TODAY regarding the Super Cup defeat. Didn’t happen.

I mean who’s to say this crap wouldn’t happen again in the CL if we face them?

I hope we get our revenge against them too. I HOPE. But there’s that danger of us losing to them AGAIN for the third time because nothing has changed.

It's like a an epic western, now we go for a double revenge!

Ah... so disappointing to lose this final, but this is football.

I can be proud of the team today, we showed some class and good football against good team who tested us very well.

A lot of positives in this game, I believe we had to win this game before the penalties and after Mendy's performance, there was no room for Kepa.

We still have two competitions to play to win, plus keep our spot in top 4 in the league.

Still a long road to go, COME ON CHELS!!!

I thought we’d lose from the get-go, just thought it was set up for ‘good to triumph over evil’.

I’m more upbeat because of how well we played. Obviously disappointed to When you factor in the chances, the terrible/bent decisions over Keita red card and Lukaku’s goal.

but Ukraine puts any letdown into perspective.

This, I wouldnt be surprised if sly news films a mickey saying (screaming) this was a victory for ukraine

Overall great performance and if you’re relying on your keeper to score the penalty then you know there’s nothing in it. That’s a positive sign - 3 times we’ve played them and matched them.

Few controversies but I won’t go into them. I thought even Lukaku looked good and we got the ball to him quicker.

Mount and Pulisic HAVE to score them 3 chances. That is the difference in finals. You get a half a chance in big games and you HAVE to take them. Thank goodness that Drogba took his chance vs Bayern in 2012. THAT is the difference between winning trophies and not. Our forwards have to learn to be ruthless.

On another note, I’m so fed up with the scum getting away with the flares. There were flares on their stand when they scored offside, but also like 50 meters from me in the Chelsea stand. And the Wembley security did f**k all. I thought flares were banned but they are the only team that gets away with them time and again. It’s about time that vermin of a club got penalised for letting their scum supporters carry them to every game. But nothing will happen because they are the f**king victims every time.

Wow, this is actually correct. Shocking.

Yep, 4 consecutive domestic cup final losses.  That's what happens when you score one goal in those four games.  Not good enough.

I don’t know, I found it hilarious went they let them all off only for VAR to chalk their goal off. Best moment of the day for me!

And the refs and VaR have stitched us up in all of them.

1. Taylor sending off Kova in a horrendous decision

2. Seem to remember the ref failing to play a huge advantage v Man City

3. VaR failing to disallow the Leicester goal for a blatant handball in the buildup. And then disallowing Chillwell's equaliser when the freeze frame used appeared to be captured a frame after Silva had played the ball

4. Failing to send off Keita for smacking Mount in the face,  and then failing to send him off for his horror challenge on Chalobah and then disallowing Lukaku's goal when the line drawn appeared to be positioned under VvD's foot, not in line with his toe.

And have we now lost more penalty shootouts in finals than any other club?

CL in Moscow, Super cups v Bayern and Liverpool, league cups v City and Liverpool. Have I missed any? We lost a Community shield on pens, too.

I have lost count of how many FA cup finals we have lost to Arsenal in recent years. We really are cursed in domestic finals

The Kepa sub worked in the super cup,.and should not also forget Kepa helped us win shoot outs against both Saints and Villa to get here. He had a really good league cup campaign and cannot blame him for missing a pen. At least I don't.

Pens are a lottery and think both sides too theirs really well bar Werners for us and Kondes for them, both almost saved.

Great movement and real quality in our attacking delivery of the final ball. Unfortunate Pulisic and Mount (x2) missed chances than end made Timo blush. Problem was our only decent finished was out injured.

While there is also a lot of anger at the incompetence of English refs using VAR again of Lukaku "goal" and Keita sending off (x2) have to also say felt there was nothing in disallowing Liverpools "goal" for Matip either.

Or to put it another way if that was AC on VVD place and Silvas in Matips I think most of us would rightly be upset with VAR again.

End of the day Kepa, VAR, rubbish refs did not matter. We lost the cup because Mount could not hit the target twice when in great positions to score and Pulisic could not beat their back up keeper.

Lukaku wad probably offside but Keita one was red.

VVD was 1000% offiside. The ref didn't punish him for the slight hold which i thought was acceptable but he was offside and he impacted the game so yea 100% offside.

Respectfully disagree on VVD. These have become such nitpicking decisions and for me spoils the game.

I saw there were two coin toss before the pen which probably one for which goal and one for who will kick first. This need to change. It is quite clear based on statistic, theory, etc shooting first give you slight edge hence if you decide to kick first, the opp should pick which goal.

I am not sure about nitpicking. Just two simple question.

Is vvd offside ?

Is vvd interfere in the play ?

I don't think he is interfering personally.

Way I look at those things is how would I feel if that had been us on the receiving end. Would I agree they got it right or say they got it wrong? And it was the latter for me.
