We buy him for a reasonable fee, just large enough to prevent other potential suitors getting involved. We offer him an attractive contract befitting his status, albeit not one matching the ludicrous terms he's on now. He defers the difference between his Chelsea contract and what the remainder of his Barca deal would have paid him, He helps the Catalans by deferring that payment until after he retires. He doesn't actually need the money now. Barca pay him that money, plus compound interest at inflation plus 1%, in a lump sum in ten years or so. Highly paid players receive sophisticated financial advice. That advice will include the suggestion that they keep some portion of their wealth as cash in a bank. FDJ could treat this deferral as the cash part of his portfolio. Inflation plus 1% is a brilliant return for what is a rock solid cash investment. It's not a bad idea. As salary caps/FFP rules become more commonplace, I suspect football will see more of these sorts of contracts just like in American sports.

Imagine how De Jong must feel in that dressingroom. He’s turning the players against him If there's ever a case for unions, labour laws and law courts, this is it. Unfortunately, football seems to have its own dynamics for player protection, and especially Barcelona FC seems to be protected by their own supposed mythical superstatus. I fail to understand why players still want to sign for Dodgy & Dirty FC.
August 11, 20223 yr Smoke And fire All is set, I will be massively surprised if Frenkie De Jong doesn't agree on this transfer, he can't be that short-sighted.
August 11, 20223 yr Todd and TT playing the long poker game ... smoke and mirrors bluffing on Raphinha and Kounde, and De Jong was the real target all along. That's my spin anyway 🙂

August 11, 20223 yr If we land FDJ what happens to our current midfielders? I would personally love us to use Gallagher. He brings something else to our current crop. Kovacic and Kante are staying no matter what. Jorginho and Ruben are probably the ones who can start looking elsewhere.
August 11, 20223 yr I will be seriously pissed if we give Barca a get out of jail card by buying FDJ before Saturday... Or drawn it out till the end of August until Barca are extremely desperate then offer them peanuts in a take it or leave deal

We should only be doing this because FDJ forms part of our overall strategy. If it allows them to limp forwards continuing with their corrupt practices then so be it. Just then sit back and hope that they get trounced in their league and bounced out of the CL early doors.

We lost Saul, we gonna lose Gilmour and Ampadu too so for this season FDJ will compete with the rest, next season Jorginho and Kante are leaving so De Jong will be the boss, with Gallagher and Kovacic around him.
August 11, 20223 yr We waited for this long, may as well drag this into the deadline day and leave Barca panicking with each passing day. I still don't quite get the guy, he's not happy with how he's been treated and abused by fans, yet he wants to stay. He's entitled to his money, so not taking a forced pay cut means at least he has some guts. Potentially, we are getting a player that doesn't want be here , and it's Lukaku situation all over again.
August 11, 20223 yr For me it’s a win-win situation. We either get De Jong, or Barca get f**ked over. Either way I’ll be grinning….. unless and predicted they will manage to get around this mess they created for themselves

But I wonder if the position he is taking is one of legal prudence. If you hand in a transfer request then you forgo any rights to compensation for the breach of your contract, as the player has initiated it, whereas if a club sells you whilst under contract part of your personal terms is the compensation settlement for breach. Perhaps by expressing a willingness to leave Barcelona it may give their legal people a chance to claim that he is engineering his way out of his contract. Therefore if he maintians that he wants to stay and see out his contract they have to adhere to the terms of the agreement and pay him his dues. What i do find somewhat laughably hypocritical, is the abuse he is receiving from Barcelona fans for not giving up his salary, not a single one of them of which would work for their employers and forgo their salaries or have it deferred into the never never. especially if that employer continue to recruit staff into the very departments that they worked in whilst owing themn back pay. August 11, 20223 yr FDJ is a very good player and would be an ideal replacement for Jorghi. But why not wait until next summer? Let him go through all his sh*tty business with the Spotify FC team and offer him a way out at a later date. Even in the Jan window? Signing him now only really benefits Club Spotify Fc. FDJ wants to be there in Barcelona, just bought a house there, etc. Not sure we want to get involved with a jilted player. Let him work through his pain and loss. lol. Nothing close to the Lukaku situation. Its an insult for players to be compared to that w**ker, frankly.
August 11, 20223 yr Barca are apparently only 30 to 40mill short of being able to register their players for Saturdays game. I would imagine there is another lever they can pull to make that happen. In short De Jong wants to stay and I don't see that changing. This is all probably another Barca set up so they can crow about a victory over us again. Edited August 11, 20223 yr by axman2526

The only way that they might keep De Jong is if they convince him to take a pay cut and forgive them the money owed too.

I thought the issue was that players wages were too high and they needed to get them down to fall in line with La Liga rules, just like last season when they had to let Messi go before they could register Aguero. Having more money won't fix that problem, they must get the wages down.

August 11, 20223 yr Because the levers fixes their transfer issue. The levers don’t fix the fact Barcelona need to free up the wage bill.
