Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea Manager

Featured Replies

I’ve not seen todays game, but on paper and listening to the report on the way home, it sounds like Brighton were good & we were bad.

GP, needs to stop knobbing around with formation & rotation, he’s making his job harder.

Stick to a formation (an identity) and mildly rotate players to keep them fresh.

Having said that, we have some truly average players in the squad that simply need to be cleared out. Our midfield is one of the weakest in the top half of the table and defensively we seem to lack quality beyond the first choice.

I’m definitely not in the Potter out gang, but I wasn’t in the Potter in gang either!

Time will tell if he really is a top level coach.

In Potters defence, our midfield and attack is still complete unbalanced/and or not good enough.

And in defence, 3 of the probable starting defenders are injured ... so it's a full house sh*t storm apart from Kepa in goal LOL

Tuchel made his fair share of mistakes too. He also turned us into a bloody great team for a while.

At least there was a bit of a balance with him with at most 1 winger at wingback. Potter is consistently going with 2 and we are consistently getting exposed and he's not doing anything about it. And he's turning us into a bit of a laughing stock at this rate.

I want to bin this 5 at the back so much. Won’t ever win the league with it.

The thing that stands out to me, is that with only 8 defenders in the squad, why is the 5 at the back still even a thing ? If we wanted to play 5 ATB then we should have started the season with at least 10 defenders, not 8.

I know a lot of people are pissed after losing 4-1 to Brighton (and rightfully so) but I think we need to be patient rather hope for another trigger gun fire. As a neutral who didn't want Tuchel fired but is also going to back Potter and whatever project Boehly has behind him I think we need to be patient and ready for a long road ahead. If people thought, we were going to turn into a title winning team 2 months after Potter took over or that we were going to win the UCL like when Tuchel came in then this game is probably a reality check. It's going to be a bumpy road ahead before we improve.

To be very honest, I personally don't mind bumpy roads, as long as it looks like something is being properly built. Like Conte, Sarri and Lamps first season, it was questionable but the seeds were there.

I see the seeds that Potter is trying to sow but it gets harder to give sympathy when he makes ridiculous lineups for about a month now. It gets bizarre when the team then plays better when the formation switches to one where the players are playing in their preferred position

I said it a few years ago, but as a fan base we've never adjusted to the fact that to be a team that finishes 4th, you lose games. We aren't city, people accept that, we are hopefully heading in that direction with the right appointments, but some fans haven't grasped that until we are winning titles, we will lose the odd game.

We haven't adjusted to it because even when we win, you never get the sense of any real progression. If we don't lose, then we win or draw playing like sh*t. We are constantly riding our luck and relying on moments to bail us out. It always feels like we are heading for a heavey defeat and it happened today.

A top 4 race shouldn't mean every game is a slog and every game makes me want to claw my eyes out. The football can and should be enjoyable. How many games have we played in the league this season that was actually good to watch? probably 2 at most. The 2-2 vs Tottenham and 3-0 vs Wolves.

It's not even a lopsided form of 352 where one wingback sits deep while the other attacks. It's both wingbacks pushed up which isolates the backline

Can’t wait til the day we leave this back 5 nonsense behind.

Same, sick to death of it. We dot have the CB to play it anyway. Silva shouldn't have to be playing this many games.

Keep playing players out of position to play wingback, playing 8 as a 6, playing 8 at 10, playing a 10 at CF.

Still not changing my opinion because of one game.

Potter is good enough for Boehly's Chelsea not our Chelsea.....unfortunately he is the one with the say.

Still dead cert to finish 7 to 9th in league like I said after he brought him in to replace Tuchel.

The logical thing would have been allow the man you spent North of 250m for to finish the season whilst you quietly looked around the world for a top manager that could come in and share the so called vision. Any manager that is being elevated to a status far beyond his ability or wildest expectation will definitely share the vision whether he understands it or not.

These pesky billionaires. We were really in la la land with one that truly loved our club (his club) and had no "ulterior" motive apart from winning. Such a shame the UK govt decided to flap its cock in our face instead of face the real baddie in all of this head on.

The amount of dirty Russian money the UK helped launder as well, we even delayed the sanctions so the oligarchs could get their money out on time. But god forbid Abramovich buys some football players. This government is full of sh*t.

Been out on a weekend away Coco. Watched the game on my phone though. The missus was chuffed.

Done it myself at a wedding, got loads of death stares from her side.😎

Don't get me wrong I like to see Mount and Gallagher together but the back 3 and the insistence on our wingbacks being key players in the final third didn't do Tuchel any favors this season and that isn't going to change under mr. Potter. He has more chances to win matches in any other setup.

In conclusion, it's hard to believe that Tuchel would have won this match as he would also go with the same back 3 (maybe Dave instead of Chalobah) and would have some odd choices for wingbacks as well.

Stop f**king playing players out of position this has been happening for so long at Chelsea. Since we started playing players out of positions we have been sh*te. Sterling and Puli are not wingbacks FFS. The world up has saved our bacon big time. Hopefully our best player will be back James he was carrying this team.

Few different points to make.

Firstly I won't follow the "Potter should be hung, drawn and quartered" majority here. He messed up big time today, so has basically every Chelsea manager since 2002 with stupid tactics and choices.

Always believe in giving the manager time. TT got similar stick as a lot of us were pu$$Ed lamps got sacked.

Secondly I think Newcastle are talking our place in the traditional top 6. They are investing well and supporting their manager, a good English manager BTW. I just have a feeling the new owners will see us return to the Chelsea Uncle Ken made us to be.

Thirdly Pottere line up was disrespectful today. He had a rested Chilwell and Dave but went with CP and Sterling in positions they are ill suited for, and started Havertz as a false 9 rather than playing Broja.

Lastly these same players bottled Leeds under Tuchel. The majority of them are spinless. Arsenal and Spurs have squads with bigger mentality that we do not. Let that sink in.

Signing players like Sterling and Auba only weaken our fight more.

Much bigger issue is with signing Sterling AND THEN playing him all over the fooking place and mostly at wingback, than buying him in the first place.

The issue is there isn't any kind of a coherent plan.

And its not like the players don't know they are all being played out of position. THEY KNOW. Maybe that's why no energy. The players know they are being setup to fail once the team sheet is put out. It's like having a fat doctor telling you to lose weight. You stop listening soon as he opens his mouth.

Agree about Newcastle though didn't think they'd get so good this quickly, Eddie Howe has been the best signing the Saudi's have made. Judging by this window we're still going to spend more than Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool. Klopp works miracles with Liverpool these past few years but realistically we should still be expecting to finsih above Arsenal and Tottenham.

Disagree about Sterling though, he had 5 G/A in his first 7 games under Tuchel, whilst having to settle into a new team in a bad patch. He also carried England to the Euro 2020 final. Potter is ruining him by playing him at LWB. Said this on the other thread but it's like playing Reece James RW and expecting him to perform.

Potter has generally been excellent in setting up our teams in the CL but, in the PL, it's a joke playing with 2 wing backs and expecting the energy of Kovacic to compensate for the other midfield player's deficiency. It you're going to play with 3 at the back and(!) wing backs, you have to play 3-5-2.

I sympathise with the right WB problem. You need to tinker, rotate or try something new there? Fine, but the left side? Nah, playing anyone other than Chilwell or Cucurella there right now is braindead. Tinkering for the sake of it, or worse, lacking the testes to keep a Pulisic or Sterling out of the team. These selections along with prioritising rehabbing Kepa and hoping we'll reverse about 4 years of Taibi-level form to get back a, what, half-decent keeper? Over rehabbing a bad year for Mendy, who if we could reverse his form we'd gain back one of the best keepers in the world- Doesn't look good for Potter.

You could play Reece James anywhere and he would look class. A better comparison imo would be playing playing Gallagher as CDM.

I don't rate Sterling. Never have. I know some do and that is fair enough.

We are going to spend the most by far by the looks of things and is going to get us conference league football next year if we are looking. Really it is absolutely hilarious, clown college stuff.
