Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea Manager

Featured Replies

It’s really depressing that there are still supporters who are backing potter at this point, throwing ridiculous excuses after excuse. He doesn’t have time, even though he’s been at the helm for 5-6 months already. He didn’t have a pre season to implement his idea, even though he had 6 uninterrupted weeks to formulate a clear plan of what to do, in addition to the 2-3 weeks after the queens death. When Tuchel came in January the team was in worse shape then it is now. We were 10 and he took us to 4th place 2 finals and one CL win. The other came in when were 6th in September and took us to 10th with 2 wins only. That’s the difference between elite level managers and mediocre managers. And unfortunately there still some supporters who accept this crisis as a blip in the radar and that potter has the capabilities to turn it around. The sad fact is potter is not an elite manager. He is a mid-table manager who punched above his weight.

It's also pretty telling that Brighton isn't any worse off since Potter left. If he was really that good you would expect them to fall apart after the manager is gone. Boehly just has to accept that he made a mistake and cut his losses. If Potter is allowed to continue this season is going to end up being a total desaster.

Senior sources insist there have been a number of instances of Potter becoming upset and having tough conversations with players in the dressing room and during meetings. Potter is described as being intense at Cobham and there are no fears over his mentality. (@Matt_Law_DT)

Feeling inside Chelsea - Potter needs at least one pre season, he was brave to take the Chelsea job, sources noted how top managers don’t take jobs mid season and that Chelsea took a risk. (@Matt_Law_DT)

Mid season? He took over in September and had the WC break ffs 😂. God i hate this man, most protected manager ever

The thing is, a lot of the problems he’s having at Chelsea are problems he had here in his first couple of seasons. The inability to break down teams who just want to defend, the constant rotation of both players & formations & the inability to score despite creating 20+ chances.

The difference is when he did that with us we’d came from Chris Hughton terroistball where we’d stunk up the league for 6 months. Our fans were a lot more tolerant of not scoring a home goal for games at a time, or failing to beat any of the bottom 3. There was clearly progress so as a rule we were happy to take the rough with the smooth.

It was only when we started playing Caicedo towards the end of the season that things really clicked. Suddenly Potter knew his preferred formation, his preferred starting XI & we started scoring goals and picking up a lot of points. He was never going to get that time or leeway at Chelsea when they’re a club who demand almost instant results. It’s the reason I didn’t think he’d go there. I thought he was smart enough to realise it would be a disaster. He honestly doesn’t even seem like the same person.

Oh and the fact he was doing really well until we absolutely pulled their pants down at The Amex is incredible.

Where do we get out next win?

I excluded the CL as that’s a pipe dream.

I can honestly say we will draw or lose most of these I can see is beating any of them and it’s damming.

We’re going to win the last two. Making Arsenal Champions, Liverpool top four and we’ll be saved from relegation 😂

That's an awful set of fixtures, I feel bad for the new manager that comes in next week after we get 3-0'd by Spurs

But you can't pick and choose the articles to believe. You might decide a so called "journalist" is talking bollox and stop believing anything else they report but if say Matt Law is reporting as he has here about the board backing Potter and to have previously reported on what his expected salary, you can't take one with a pinch of salt and wholeheartedly believe the other surely.

The fact that his salary package has been discussed on numerous occasions in pretty much all of the major press outlets, tends to make me feel that what is being reported is pretty close to accurate.

I don't 100% believe anything when it's reported by the media.

Yes, that did raise eyebrows.

I think there's also an overemphasis on numbers alone rather than just assessing the success of the tactics itself.

There's an emphasis on the output data, as a measure of how good it is working. Interesting that they mention that we are underscoring, which is something we've come very much aware of in the last couple of seasons (and a reason why Tuchel wanted a striker and we got Lukaku). I think that the analysis is interesting, worth a watch.

I don't think the fixtures themselves are that bad, after Tottenham we have leeds, Leicester, Everton, Villa and Wolves. we should win all of those games.

The problem is they seem unwinnable with Potter because 4 of those clubs indisputably have better managers than Potter and Leeds will probably appoint someone like Big Sam who again is indisputably better than Potter.

We have the talent in the squad to do really well but there's so much talent in the Premier league every team has talent in almost every position so often it comes down to a tactical battle and you're never going to back Potter over someone like Unai Emery or Lopetegui who have proven year after year they're better coaches than Potter.

Why we scraped the bottom of the barrel when hiring a manager and clubs around the relegation zone were able to pick up coaches with fantastic records and resumes who have then turned their seasons turn around I'll never know

Our ability to score goals has completely collapsed vs last season.

21/22,  in all comps, we scored 122 goals in 65 games.

22/23 we currently have 33 goals from 32 games ... so we're bobbling along at about half of our scoring rate of last season ...

It doesn't matter what you say, you wont convince me that sacking him now is the answer, i am being totally realistic and waiting until the end of the season before i judge him, anything less is unfair.

Fair play and listen we're all Chelsea fans, a hell of a lot more than any player or manager here.

But with regards to time to get to know players, working with what's available and the disruption through injury and a hectic schedule, If we had sacked Potter after the shambles against Fulham (just picking any one game at random) and appointed Sean Dyche as manager there probably would have been uproar on this forum, in the press. Jim White would have been apoplectic with astonishment.

Everton announced Sean Dyche as their manager on 30th Jan, i believe. On 4th Feb they played and beat top of ther table Arsenal 1-0.

He's probbaly not good enough in the long run, but i wouldn't bet on them going down now. i definitely woudl have had them in the frame with Frank still in charge. I pray that i am wrong but i am struggling to see the next win currently with this guy in charge

Based on his tenure so far unfortunately that’s a very likely scenario. his post match comments that we lost to a well prepared team, that is without a manager and bottom of the league, confirmed to me that he is not the guy to take this team forward. And regarding Boehly he would rather stick with potter who is obviously unqualified for this job, than admit he made a mistake by sacking a proven winner in Tuchel. The question is how long before this sh*t show ends, because I have 0% confidence in this team. At this point I’d take AVB over potter.

Unless I've missed something, Sterling, Koulibaly, Kovacic, Fofana and Zakaria are all now fit and available for selection ?

Such sh*te journalism, but the lay person casually reading the story would not necessarily know how inaccurate that list is... and would think the injury list is still a valid excuse for Potter to hide behind ...

Stop criticising and just support him.

Or does that only apply to £72m goalkeepers?

Possibly, and still we complained about the number of missed chances, and not only us but Tuchel as well. Imagine our numbers if we'd been scoring most of the chances we created!

Precisely ... 🙂

And so did Kovacic, although I can totally understand how his rather anonymous performance might be completely forgettable LOL 🙂
