Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea Manager

Featured Replies

Be interesting to see what he says in the pre-game against Bouremouth, I accept he will say the usual respectful things about the opposition, but I hope he actually says we must win this game, because we have to. The standard and expectation is really important for a big club ( if we are still one),  the manager can't just accept this is a  transition season and take finishing above Brighton as a bench mark.

We aren't even finishing above Brighton at this rate

Performance is key for me. He's had almost two months to review and implement.

We see the same disjointed lineup and performance, I think patience will be run thin, despite what media outlets are claiming about Boehly and co. Being patient is one thing, but actually seeing progression is another.

How has he had 2 months to implement in when 70% of his squad are unavailable to him.

Be that as it may, I believe we should still be seeing what Potter actually wants in his football.

Patience was thin before the WC break among the fans at Stamford Bridge and away fans. If the football does not start to improve from the Bournemouth game, he’s got no much time before the fans start to turn on him. I hope he can turn things around, but I doubt he’ll do it with this group of players uninterested in playing for Chelsea.

That's the key point, too many just are nut pulling their weight and don't care to either.

Isn't that part of his job to keep players motivated? I accept many don't agree with my view, but if there was any other manager in charge after losing 3 games in a row without a fight, the pundits and fans be calling him out. With Potter, the expectation and standard has dropped so low, almost anything is acceptable apart from relegation.

I wish the world cup be go for another few months, pretty sure this Chelsea time would ruin the festival season with a few awful performance.

I also think the window may be interesting as well. Of course it may all be media rubbish but a lot of the players that we have been linked with or even apparently been in discussions with have had good tournaments and have demonstrated what they could bring. It'll be interesting to see what the real intent is.

Gvardiol, Dumfries, Amrabat Rabiot, Caciedo, Hincapie, Livakovic, Felix.  Like I say the links may be tosh but they have all done well. If he has got designs on reshaping the style and replacing some of the personnel this window may give us some clue as to whether there is real intent or not.

I’m really worried about Potter. The manner of the defeats against Brighton, Arsenal and Newcastle were very concerning. I am really hoping that it comes down to injuries and tiredness with the heavy run of games.

Come January, if results haven’t improved, there will be trouble. There’s no way this squad should be sitting in 9th position. We’re much better than that.

Hmm the expectation is so low not because of Potter it is because Screenshot_20221210_171547_Chrome.thumb.jpg.6306ee293f9c8bb39aedf4f8d721500b.jpg

We could say the same for Tuchel and even Lampard, it was their job to keep these players motivated and instead the players didn’t give a dam playing for the badge. Different coaches, same players, same issues.

How.

He's got quite a strong group with him to Abu Dhabi which should be a positive.
Kepa, James, Chalobah, Fofana, Chilwell, Cucurella, Kante, Jorginho, RLC, Hall, Carney, Auba and Broja. 13 first teamers (14 if you count Bettinelli) plus a bunch of talented youngsters so there is without a doubt something to work with there.

Bench was very strong though, and if he had set up the team properly and done away with the back 3 we could have snuck a draw. Having a strong match day of 18 players is a thing of the past, have a look at the City, Utd or Arsenal bench and you will find that top players won’t just sit around picking up their wages. A good manager needs to be able to figure out the right balance & mix.

Sorry but I'm never going to warm to him,we've have some brilliant managers who you can really like and get to respect and trust, but he isn't the right man for the job, that's my opinion.

Now name the players he's without.

We all know who they are. I wasn't trying to get involved in yours and Sconnies discussion other than stating that he's got over 50% of his first team squad available to him. And this break should hopefully be a really valuable time for Potter to analyse what went wrong before the break and change thing up so we look far better. He should now after having ample time to analyse hopefully realize that his tactics have been awfully wrong in the league lately for example.

As well as working with the good amount of players he does have available of course. There are enough senior players there to field a really strong XI against Bournemouth with just those who are available right now.

Missing first team players:-

Mendy

Silva

Koulibaly

Azpilicueta

Kovacic

Mount

Sterling

Havertz

Gallagher

Ziyech

Pulisic

Not having them will definitely hinder Potters training sessions, to say it won't is ridiculous.

Zakaria presumably is also not back yet.

Forgot about him. So that's 12 first team players missing.

Never said it wouldn't.

We've had our disagreements over the years but i'm not sure we are even disagreeing here. Perhaps we are but my point is that Potter got enough time and probably enough players available in this break to improve performances when we are back against Bournemouth.

I know you were advocating for Potter but i'm sure you can agree that we need to drastically improve ASAP? I'm just trying to be positive here and is hoping that Potter can get something out of this break. Because I actually like the fella but it's obvious to me at least that we need drastic improvement. If not he will and perhaps should be in danger of losing his job.
