October 25, 20223 yr Pottertastic …took the chance with an attacking line out and deserved his endeavours Kova capped a great performance with a great goal Havertz came to the party …should have buried his first half chance Silva positioning is world class Chalobah another tiptop performance Kepa makes me nervous at crosses but he did his part otherwise Auba has got the curse of the 9 Into last 16 , come on Milan!
October 25, 20223 yr Cucurella looked back to his (Brighton and early season) best for me. Him practically shifting between left back and LCB depending on the phase of play is one of the key reasons this (literally) three at the back worked tonight. Although both cost a lot I like the variety and horses for courses options him and Chilwell give.
October 25, 20223 yr I'm still pissed at Auba not scoring after that wonderful team move. a goal was deserved to be scored me thinks
October 25, 20223 yr Ver enjoable and some positive signs that Potter is having an influence. Highlight of the game was Jorginho's "shot" in the last 5 minutes. I could hear @just laughing al the way in Dublin.
October 25, 20223 yr Kepa - 6 - Safe hands, pain in the ass on corners though. Too eager to get involved. Cucurella - 6 - Much better at CB today. Silva - 8 - So many clearances and blocks. His calmness under pressure was top class too. He doesn't just smash it out because he reads the game so well, he heads it or passes it out of danger to a teammate. Chalobah - 8 - Excellent again, seemed to get on the end of every header. Jorginho - 6 - Solid without being spectacular Kovacic - 8 - Brilliant until he was subbed off. All over the pitch, world class at bringing the ball out of defence and beating their press and was the reason why we played such good football in the first half. Gallagher - 6 - Hard working, not much came off for him though. Sterling - 5 - Not a wing back and he never will be. Because he needs to focus on his defensive and attacking duties, it means his starting position is always much deeper than he would like. It will never work. Pulisic - 6 - Decent at wing back for once, but the wing back role gives him too much to do. Like Sterling, his starting position is too deep, he can't dribble past everybody. Havertz - 6 - Mostly bad, but scored a brilliant goal, should have had an assist too. Aubameyang - 3 - Rubbish. Too slow, poor touch and wasted too many chances. Almost as useless as Lukaku was of late. Subs: Loftus-Cheek - 4 - Worst player to bring on when he trying to see out a draw. Lazy. Azpilicueta - 5 - Helped to get us over the line. Broja, Ziyech, Mount - 5 - Not much time to do anything.

A bit harsh on Aubameyang I think ... he did get 5 of his 6 attempts on target, and you have to give him credit for being in the right place at the right time to even have that many chances in the first place.

He's got to start way, way, way to deep. We are talking 60 yards from the opponents goal when he gets the ball and he's being completely wasted. He doesn't even have anyone overlapping him so there is basically no room for him to work unless he can somehow dribble three opponents and that will never happen. Decent game but I think we lose against Brighton if we play like this. There was always space down Pulisic's and Sterling's side and a better side would have exposed it more often. They did once when they scored and most of their chances came down the flanks as well.

He's a striker, his job is to score goals, especially that 1v1 from Havertz pass. If he takes that chance, I wouldn't give him such a low score.

October 25, 20223 yr Hard earned win, but we should have gone 3 up into halftime and that would have killed the game. Otherwise, well worked against a really energetic and good team. For me, Salzburg are a surprise so far.

So it may be taking him some time to regain his form again

I agree. While he was wasteful he did at least force the keeper to make some decent saves. He also linked up well with Sterling during some of our better moves.
October 25, 20223 yr Very good performance by us tonight. We could have been three goals ahead at half time. Great goals by both Kovacic and Havertz. Chalobah and Silva looked solid for the vast, vast majority of the game.

Heard this plenty of times about Torres. But to be fair, I think the Salzburg keeper actually made some great saves so I won't have a go at Auba.
