What a f**king legend. Crespo must of really sold him into coming here.

Already extended!

🚨 💣 Enzo Fernández is now extended at Chelsea for one more year, taking his contract from 2031 to 2032. (@CLMerlo) pic.twitter.com/usg0fTHF7v

What's even more incredible is results wise it can't have gone much worse yet he still seems to love it here regardless (and is performing inspite of everything).

He's been the only reason I've haven't gone insane these past couple of months.

He's young and already a family man. They must of really settled well in London.

Cant see this being his own choice - widely reported it was a club option, with $$$ in mind.

"Chelsea have activated a clause in Fernandez's contract to extend his deal until June 2032. Therefore, the Blues will now be able to amortise the cost to £11.25million per year over the course of his deal from when he signed in January 2023.

With European football looking highly unlikely for the west Londoners next season, this minimal saving in payments could help them abide by Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. This is due to amortisation as the value of a transfer fee is spread out across length of a player's contract, meaning that the £106.8million fee is now only worth £11.25million-per-year plus wages for the Argentina international."

Happy you know that he's actually performing well despite our results.

Ah it makes sense now, I wondered why this had happened with him having so many years left on his deal.

Of course contracts mean little if a player decides he does not want to be at a club, Lukaku being the best example of that. If Kane had been a pr*ck to Spurs like that he would have made his way to a big club years ago.

If the other players played to his level at the moment, then we would be in the top 3 right now. Kante and Enzo are looking like the ones trying to do something, but the other 9 players seem devoid and forgetting how to play football to a high standard. James has come back from injury and I think that is hindering him, Chilwell is solid almost all the time. Silva is Silva, he's a great CB. The rest are just passengers at the moment.

Another game where I thought defensively Enzo was not good.

Lots of praise in this thread for Enzo, deservedly so because he is very good but like most of our signing he is still raw. I thought his game management and defensive positioning has lots of room to grow.

Every player will look poor if there are too many players performing poorly. In a fully functioning competent midfield he could be a difference maker. In this environment he is swimming against the tide.

Our recruitment needs to be more defined and specific and we need a coach that works closely with the players on pattern, and not from a textbook.

Yes, in fully functional team he will be better, but it is so obvious that there are many flaws in his game that need to be iron out especially defensively.

Like I said before, the thing that Enzo is good at is hard to teach but the thing that he is bad at is teachable.

I mean majority of the players are sh*t mate. Enzo is one of the players that can hold his head higher than the rest. So few of our players can or should hold their heads high at the moment.

He is the only player who looks capable of playing through a press.. yesterday Brighton players showed more composure than our players in playing out of the back.. having said that we should have scored via Kovacic in the second half after winning it in their box.

It was extremely poor from SFL to try to press with the team yesterday.. made them all look like fools. Pressing is an art you need to work on it day in day out in training not just hope it will work on matchday.

Yesterday was on SFL quite a bit.. All we needed was to get a little more composed and play on the counter .. The mini 2 game run that GP had was built on this.

The problem is that you are used to seeing him as DM, which is not his position, he shouldn't have to deal with so many defensive tasks, if you add that to the fact that the other players are sh*te then you realize can't ask much more from him for the moment.

I didn't see Enzo playing bad since he came here at all. Brighton is a well oiled machine and Lampard's suicide tactics only expose our players.

Whole backline was exposed and Mitoma ran through several players, Zakaria and Enzo simply couldn't do much in this setup.

I think Zakaria was clearly not match fit and Badiashile also looked off pace.. but playing Chalobah at RB and then trying to press them high was suicidal.. may have worked against a championship level team but not at PL level.

a lot of the players on the bench were also shanking their heads.. during an injury break Kepa and the others were trying some in game management.. but it was really poor setup by SFL that was to blame. We made them look like prime Barca.

Enzo didn't play well at all yesterday, it's as simple as that whatever excuses you try to find.

How dare you question the Gol15 etch-a-sketch!

I know, I should have known after the Jorginho and Havertz threads. Enzo had a bad game, it happens to all players. But let's blame it on Lampards tactics, Brighton being a well oiled machine and that dodgy spag bol he had 3 years ago.

Was lamp tactic suicidal? Yes, pressing high 442/4231 shape was suicidal.

But even when we moved to 4141,you could tell enzo struggle to do his job (both him and Zakaria). Zakaria looked off from the get go but he hasn't played football for a long time.

Still our best player but time and time again shows why he needs someone next to him sitting. We get ran through and exposed in the middle far too often. Prime Matic would be perfect for next to him.

I agree. Was hoping Zakaria would be that man, albeit it didn't exactly work very well against Brighton LOL. I can see why Frank tried it. Zakaria however looked well rusty and the game completely passed him by.

I would experiment with Chalobah in DM for the rest of the season. No one else can play there.

Yes, we definitely need a dm who can defend next to him. But he definitely need to improve defensively and I think he can do it.
