I can’t understand the negativity and running Boehly down. The consortium has bet really big on Chelsea. Sure it’s not a brilliant season and some of the transfers are duds. Sure. We might not make champions league this season. That’s dissapointing but it’s happened before. Anyhow I just tend to avoid the forum when it goes negative. Is anyone on here actually a professional manager, or professional footballer or football club owner?

All reports said we were already pushing it with trying to buy with 3 seperate payments, if it's true that we changed that to a lower amount and even offered players as well in the deal... The negativity is only natural.

So the player wants to come and we desperately need him so let's take the piss and low ball them and lose him to someone else in the Summer while we currently have no competition for his signature?

Stupid club.

If we do not get Enzo now, we NEVER get him, as I doubt that the prospect of Europa League , Europa Conference or worse still ZERO European competition will make him choose Chelsea over City, RM, PSG etc etc in the Summer !! 😔

The worry is that we go for someone else, pay just as much but for lower quality. If Enzo is the right, long term solution, pay the money I think. We don’t have the time or squad to be messing about.

You’re right. It’s now or never

Should've known better after last summer's shenanigan's. Unless Ornstein is reporting it, don't believe any of it. Hearing we may go after Caicedo as an alternative from Fabrizio Romano. Just what sense does that make exactly? Caicedo will only add to the list of profile we already have in Kante, Zakaria, and Kovacic. It will yet again see Jorginho on the pitch running things + one of Caicedo, Kovacic, Zakaria, or Kante. Enzo is a profile of player we desperately need and one of the best young midfielders in the world we can lock down for the duration of his peak years.

If what Romano is saying is true in that we gave a verbal agreement to both the club and Enzo, only to lowball the offer, then I have lost a lot of faith in Boehly.

It sounds a bit like a lot people on here are happy enough to pay whatever for players, even 30/40m over the market value.
Then other threads people hammer the same club for overpaying.

I'm fine with overpaying for Enzo. Not for Rice though.

“According to Record, Chelsea submitted a cash bid of £75m plus Hakim Ziyech for Enzo Fernandez, and also included Datro Fofana and Andrey Santos on loan. Benfica insisted on €120m release clause.“

Who knows..someone is playing games. Either us or Benfica

Record newspaper is good to set fire to barbecues. Or to clean mirrors.

So these “in the know” journalists (so called…) first report that we’ve reached an agreement of £35m in 3 years + £10m based on performance, but the following day the same so called journalists report that negotiations have been broken because we submitted a bid of £75m…. They knew nothing about the negotiations and know nothing of what’s been submitted. They are just click-bite twats reporting each other’s BS. It’s the same crap every window, I don’t know why people still follow and fall for what these chancers publish.

They've stayed silent these past 24 hours too which is funny. That Felix bloke and Simon Johnson.

I don't think it's wise to just bend over for Benfica, as it will lead to other clubs taking advantage of us in future. Also, it's a crazy amount of money for a player who isn't going to win us games single handedly like a good striker would. I think £80m+ is a very good price for him, but then the market is insane.

You mean like Lukaku? It's about having a certain skill set and if that player's skillset can vastly improve the team. Lukaku didn't whereas Enzo certainly does.

Issue here is that we've shown our cards. What ever alternative we have/had after Enzo, that selling club will up the price given they know we have 85m to lash out on one player, and that player will 100% be a downgrade on Enzo.

Yes we lack a clinical finisher but that's just about the only thing we don't have. No striker will win us games if our midfield is sh*te. Good midfielders are not glamourous but they are essential for a successful team. Our current forwards are not that bad, but our midfield is just slow and sideways passing has been killing our attacking game for a long time.

No worries. If a player doesnt wasnt to play for Chelsea, then I would prefer not to have him.

We could have bought him in the summer for 20m but nobody wanted to take a chance on him then

Spot on. Rather than paying well over the odds for a player who has played under 20 games in Europe, why not actually get our scouts to earn their salary, and buy the players direct from source.

If they cant find them, then how about hire the Benfica and Porto scouts? They never seem to do badly and recruiting cracking players.

Give them a fat paycheck and they will kiss the badge of any club. Players wanting to play for certain clubs is very rare now. Clubs market themselves to the top players and they choose that which appeals to them the most.

I would bet big that the vast majority of those on this board, that are getting their knickers in a twist over Enzo, wouldnt have even been able to pick him out of a Benfica lineup prior to the world cup. All of a sudden he is the flavour of the month, but all this talk about him being a game changing signing is pure speculation. Same was said for Kai.....and Timo.... and K2....and Ziyech etc etc etc

Pretty sure Mase wants to play for us. Reece and Chilly want to play for us. Rice wants to play for us. Timo wanted to play for us.

My point is, that if we dont get the deal over the line now, and the situation changes to the extent that Enzo is no longer keen on coming, then so be it. There will always be another flavour of the month that will want to be here.

According to Roger Schmidt, Benfica manager, Chelsea promised Enzo that they would pay the release clause and not to worry about nothing else.

Well, if true, Not very nice.

I want to play for Chelsea. Should they sign me?
