It's increasingly likely it would be a no-win situation no matter when he takes over. I'll genuinely give him a lot of credit if he takes this on.

It's already toxic. By the time Arsenal, City, United and Newcastle are through with us it will be radioactive. General consensus is that he failed at PSG so if he takes us on and fails here as well he'll be done for in terms of being a candidate for the top clubs. And with our current owners, set-up and the squad they've built I don't think anyone succeeds right now. The fact that we desperately need a Top 4 finish next season or else be in deep sh*t financially doesn't help anything either.

I'm not sure how you justify this.  We have a long history of sacking managers that have gone on and managed top level clubs, generally with a massive wad of severance pay in their back pockets. Mourinho, Conte, Tuchel and Ancelotti immediately spring to mind.

Pretty much every manager around, bar a small fraction have failed somewhere and been sacked at some point in time. It rarely affects their careers too adversely.

Depends on where really.

I can live with Twickenham if we can somehow pull it off as given there's no other football and it's only 9 miles away we could hopefully make it feel something resembling home.

But yeah Wembley or the London Stadium for that long, do not want.

Should be Craven Cottage imo.

Yeah but it’s not just Celtic who by the way did poorly in the season prior to his arrival. He has won everywhere.
by the same token the ONLY place Pochettino won is France with psg where there aren’ even two competitive teams.
I agree Kompany  has done exceptionally  well, but it’s only one season. You need, in my opinion, 3-5 successful seasons prior to managing  a top club.

Also ange football is attractive. Lots of goals. It doesn’t matter I don’t expect anyone here to support an Aussie over a European. I really don’t. It’s just unrealistic.

He hasn't won anything in a top league, look I know that this is going to sound snobbish but Celtic is probably the biggest club he's been at and as I've recently pointed out even I could manage Celtic to a Scottish Championship, fact is Celtic are still doing 'poorly' when they come up against anybody outside of the Scottish league, if he'd taken them to a Champions League quarter final or semi final the way Ten Haag did Ajax then he would be making a mark, I know you can only beat what's in front of you but winning the SPL with Celtic is not a mark of a great coach.  I'm not saying he is a 'bad' coach, I'm saying we just don't know, he needs to move on from Celtic to prove himself.

A  Lilly white in charge at the bridge is not expectable  😠 simple fact you can mess with a lot of things but  our History is born into us and its what give us our identity and if you try to mess with it you will lose   I  will never except a spurs man

I said it yesterday but it's crucial we stay steadfast behind the next man if the underlying metrics are pointing to sustainable progress. My worry however is if Pochettino is 7th or even 4th we'll get "f**k Pochettino ball" ringing around the stadium.

And when it's club legends like Mou or Lamps we go too far the other way when they quite clearly had to go. Makes me worry the only way this gets sorted (in terms of leaving the boom and bust behind and building something more sustainable) is getting an ex player/manager who the fans won't turn on who also actually has the ability to do a longer build and will hold his nerve to complete it (ie not panic and look for a short term fix not naming names Lukaku).

Who falls into all three categories right now? Jose and Lampard falls short on the last two hurdles, i feel Pochettino like Sarri and Tuchel will have to do bits to win general approval and the last part is what ultimately saw to Tuchel so who? The only person I can think of who might tick all three boxes is Hernan Crespo but that's another risk aswell as legacy we'll be putting on the line.

Oh ain't that the truth!! For some reason 'some' seem to simply blame the managers for all our woe's, the last 5 games we've played has left Potter looking like a genius! We are the worst team in the league right now, surely rock bottom?  Whoever the next guy in is he MUST BE GIVEN TIME, this mess is going to take some sorting out!  Sacking Tuchel didn't work and in hindsight was a mistake, sacking Potter didn't work and in hindsight was a mistake, hiring Frank isn't working and in hindsight was a mistake, the next guy 'might' hit the ground running but its unlikely, he MUST BE GIVEN TIME! Its obvious that simply changing managers is not the answer.

We had Danny Blanchflower and Glenn Hoddle before. Don’t remember it being an issue

Personally thought Hoddle was great for us who was a lot more spursey than Pochettino.

So you weren't at the cup final with the rest of us in 94?

When Benitez was put in charge I refused to go to any matches including the Europa League final in Amsterdam when I was offered a ticket. That bloke should never have been allowed anywhere near our club. Somethings are more important than results on a football pitch.

Thought this snippet from the latest Athletic article was very interesting. If its true he's basically told them the structure is sh*t and he wants to take control. Reports still say its imminent but will the owners really go for this after putting that structure in place in the first place?

"Pochettino has been making some difficult demands from Chelsea before putting pen to paper as their next coach. Many of those demands are not necessarily money-related.

According to sources, Pochettino doesn't want Chelsea co-owners storming his dressing room. He also wants complete control over transfers and player development. These are almost identical demands Thomas Tuchel made before being shown the Chelsea door."

To be honest, I think that is probably BS. The owners have clearly rejected those coaches asking for transfer control and not willing to collaborate with the structure in place (Vivell et al.), Tuchel, Nagelsmann was reported also to want control over transfers, Enrique was also demanding that type of control... If Pochettino wanted in a strong manner that, the rumours of him having impressed the owners would have died down.

Hoddle was a superb manager, who started the positive changes at Chelsea in '93, if England hadn't come calling, he would probably have gone on to win the lot with us !!

The worse season in our history under Blanchflower it was beyond dreadful as you know Rich.  I have no problem Pochettino taking over managers especially British ones never turn down jobs offered to them whoever they managed and played for in the past. George Graham managing Arsenal and Spurs same as Terry Neill, Steve Bruce managed Sunderland and Newcastle, Alex McCleish Villa and Birmingham, Paul Lambert Ipswich and Norwich.

Hoddle's appointment was known well before the season ended and most Chelsea fans were thrilled I remember watching Swindon in the play off final knowing full well Hoddle was going to be our next manager and even at 35 he was by far the best player at the club !.

I loved Hoddle being our manager. He was the catalyst. I doubt we would have got the names we did if it wasn't for the pull of Hoddle. We were diving down to the trapdoor under Porterfield and luckily Webby arrested the slide,. But Hoddle brought a new style and a new more glamorous look. Perhaps it was those beginnings that made us look an appealing prospect for Roman.

Personally I don't have an issue with previous clubs. I wouldn't want Arteta as our manager, not because of the Arsenal connections but just because he is a c0ck. Conversely I have a deep abiding dislike of Liverpool,  but I'd take Klopp as a manager if it worked for us.

It is difficult to know, Hoddle brought a new belief and Gullit.

Gullit attracted Vialli, would Vialli have come just for Hoddle .... not sure.

Certainly during that time many good things fell into place.

This is how I feel right now as well. We need the best manager we can get, if he's managed a rival previously then so be it. Any manager who comes here will want to be the best they can be, you definitely don't get an easy ride managing Chelsea, the rewards are big along with the pressure, we are a 2 time Champions League winning club and have every chance of doing it again in the future.

I draw the line at Benitez though.

Not liking these rumours about Pochettino wanting Lukaku and Felix in next seasons squad. Would instantly nullify the main pre of his tactics (pressing).

Broken record but when managers make such blatant jeopardizing decisions I lose zero sympathy for them and they go down in my esteem.

I can't help but feel Boehly is still pulling the strings despite all these new people we've brought in to run the club.
