I don't get why we court suitors and openly state the crazy price tags that rarely if ever materialise. Its a strange element of grandstanding that seems counter productive to me. I don't see City doing this. They have their players that are on the shelf and are quietly conducting their negotiations until the sale is agreed. For example, i know that they are looking to shift Nico Gonzalez, and i think maybe Newcastle are interested. But i haven't seen loads of pressers or briefing setting out what City value him at as it will be kept low key until announced. Well luckily I watch football on a screen and not just on a spreadsheet. No amount of tactico data is going to convince me that Anderson is a better footballer than Enzo Fernandez. And as for 'city would have signed Enzo first' which deal was the easiest to make? Nottingham Forest's star midfielder or Chelsea's star midfielder?

I'd argue that last season we did a great job of selling players for max value. Off the top of my head Madueke, Broja, Ugochukwu and Nkunku were sold at very good prices, especially when you consider what their value is now just a season later.

Madueke was good value, as was Broja.

Ugochukwu was probably fair market value and Nkunku was a heavy loss.

There was then the other players still sat at the club that we're still lumbered with today. Badiashile, Disasi, Jackson, Guiu, D.Fofana, Washington, Wiley, Slonina, Neto. The list is endless.

However after Delap it seems that a permant deal is on the cards to Benfica for a fee north of €30m.

If that’s true then circa £75 m for two very poos players would be a materstroke

To be fair he isn't some random academy player, Atalanta spent £15m on him when he was 17 last season and he's already made his debut for Italy.
