I would prefer us to get rid of him. Simply because he's not good enough to justify his wages.

He is ok, in that he is capable of scoring some goals (though seemingly not in the PL)....but as one of our highest paid players, he should be doing more.

Squad player on current ability, being paid like the world class player he once was. I know it's not that easy, because we signed him hoping he'd be more, and we signed him on wages we thought he was worth, only to be proven wrong.

I don't think he'll go, and in principle I'm not entirely opposed to him being here, I just don't think we'll ever see enough from him to even come close to justifying his wages...so if the opportunity arises to move him on, we'd have to take it. That opportunity will likely not arise however.

But I do have to congratulate him on an important and well taken goal. I was worried when he rounded the keeper...thought he'd lost it, but he had it the whole time, and finished nicely.

Just, glad you posted that. No Torresfangirls in the forum as far as I'm concerned. Haven't seen any. But what I've seen is bitter fans who can't get past the fact Torres is the biggest flop in Chelsea history.

As I said that is a fact no one can or will deny here or anywhere else. Veron, Sheva, Sutton all bargains compared to Nando.

Don't ride the bitter-lane Just. I enjoy your posts very much and the debating but I smell bitterness here.

We want to see him gone as it would be best for the man and the club but this is a mistake we have to live with so lets make the best of it. Agree?

Not quite true though is it Evissy? Just like a few pages back when Shed Pensioner was saying no-one was suggesting Torres should be starting important games, then lo and behold, on the Tottenham match thread loads of people saying they hope he starts.

It is likewise for your "we want to see him gone" statement. Not true. I may do. You may do. But there are plenty who don't. See Andreas' post above for starters though he caveats it with the phrase "as back-up". Incidentally, I would ask what makes people think Torres would be prepared to be number 2 or 3 in the pecking order? Last season he ended up, quite rightly, playing second fiddle to Drogba and we found out how unhappy he was about it the moment the final whistle blew in Munich. What has changed? We know how mentally fragile he is. How quickly his head can drop, how quickly his body language can change. Do people really believe he will take a positive mental attitude to that? Do they believe he will be the sort to say; "righty oh, 2nd choice am I? Well I am gonna roll my sleeves up and show you lot". Past experience tells us, probably not. Meanwhile we have £50 million £200,000 a week player taking up a crucial squad place.

Your mistake is thinking my comments are biterness. Wrong. It isn't biterness Evissy, it's reality. I am glad he played well last night. TBH I really didn't care who scored last night so long as someone did, and he was that man, and a good finish too. But, as I said before, longterm, it doesn't change a thing. If we want to move forward as club and overtake the likes of United, Citeh, Bayern, Real etc. we need a genuine, consistent, top class centre-forward to do it. And unfortunately that is not................... Fernando Torres.

I agree about on most you write here. You don't address to the real issue though.

Mistake was made 3 years ago and this mistake is one of those 5 year mistakes, I'm afraid. He will be here the remainder as no one is prepared to take him, sane ones anyway.

My point is why kick him when he is down? You said youself his mind is fragile. Fragile mind really doesn't need this kind of bashing and constant reminding of how bad of a signing he's been.

I don't think Nando reads this forum but I think this forum is large enough to reflect the Chelsea fanbase and their ideas on Torres for example.

We can either accept him as he is, misfiring striker and support him as fans should do OR kick him as long as he is here. Your choice.

This is not a personal attack to you Just. As I said appreciate your posts very much and this debate. Trying to make you see the scenario from a more positive angle that's all. I've bashed him as well in this thread but trying to see this more positive.

Didn't expect much less than the huge over reaction by the fangirlys to one goal and a good performance. Listen very carefully:

1st half he did well but didn't see much of the ball. 2nd half he played very well. He took the goal better than any other he has scored for us and a vitally important goal it was too.

Does it mean the past two and half years never happened? Were they a dream? Is he suddenly going to be as good and score as many goals as Levendowski ? Falcao? Suarez? RVP or even Sturridge? No, of course not. Last night changes not a single thing.  He is not good enough, not consistent enough, to be our starting centre-forward.

Right now would be an ideal time for the club to do a hard sell on him. There might be someone willing to take him off our hands. We may just recoup a little of the massive sum we paid for him.

Oh, lastly, to some of those who think Torres is the only one who gets over the top criticism bordering on victimisation, take a look at some of the things you posted about Ramires on last night's match thread. Pot, kettle and black I think.

Can't help yourself can you just? Give it up ffs! The man just helped us win a trophy like you've been asking him to do for the last 2 years. It wasn't the premier league no but it was still a major european trophy. He helped us last year in the champions league and he played a major part in this win.

No one is saying he should be the number 1 man next season. It's all in your head. Many people like me wouldn't mind seeing him stay though and play 2nd or 3rd fiddle to the likes of falcao or cavani. You won't agree and that's not surprising.

And on the last point about ramires. I'll ask you one question. Does ramires have 304 pages of sh*t dedicated to him?

That's fair enough Evissy. Personally I don't think anything written by fans on a football forum, on either side of the argument, will make the slightest bit of difference. And you are right, no-one has given even the slightest indication of interest in taking him off our hands. But last night does raise his stock slightly and we can only hope that perhaps some clubs would take a view, (like some of our own fans on here), that 20 goals is 20 goals and not look too deeply into who those goals were scored against and the circumstances in which they were scored. Unfortunately I don't think we will look to sell him though, even with Jose's arrival, as Torres is Roman's personal project and as such, remains an untouchable.

I know you don't like the guy and you want him gone, I like him and I think all parties would be better off if he left too, but would it have really killed you to have just been happy for the lad after turned up on the big occasion and played a vital part in winning a trophy after being criticised to high heaven for over 2 years and accused of not turning up on the big occasions (which before this was mostly true)?

You know i genuinely like the guy, so no hiding from me, he showed everyone in 100% HD definition he actually still has it, that goal, the composure to throw in a little shimmy, then to slot in, real real old skool Torres, just don't know what to think.

Now if we signed Falcao or Cavani and they turned out sh*t for us, whose fault is that......

Edited by Ballack & Blu

He had the composure to score the same type of goal against Barca. It's the fact that he is in no shape or form good enough to lead the line and is a noose around the club's neck with his wages. If he was constantly scoring these type of goals in big matches or perhaps was at least a flat track bully in the EPL his transfer would have made some semblance of sense. But it remains that he has made the our time in the EPL a lot more difficult than it should be - and continues to place better players outside of contention pushing them out of the club. Last night was his second goal of the season against what I'd consider a top European club.

Floppes's last night performance might have elevated him slightly above Donkey Carroll in terms of return for our club - he was vital in us winning the Europa League. Many thanks to him for that - but he should be no where near the squad next season, hopefully this performance might be enough to generate enough interest for us to sell him.

In terms of Cavani and Falcao - the first has just finished as Seria A's top scorer, being vital in Napoli qualifying ahead of the likes of Milan; Inter; Roma; Lazio; Fiorentina. He was vital for them qualifying for the CL last season, scoring the most goals from open play in 2011/12 season. He also scored in Napoli's first Italian Cup win since 1986/87.

Falcao with his 28 goals in 33 matches will ensure AM qualify for the the CL, something which eluded them in the last 4 years. He is a player who's also scored in Europea League final for Porto during their triumph.

Correct me if I'm wrong but before he came to us - as far as I'm aware he didn't have a single trophy to his name at Club level? To me both Falcao and Cavani have far more pedigree than Floppes, and it would be very surprising if either score under 15 goals in the League in over two seasons.

In reality I don't think we need either that badly because we have Lukaku who would compliment Mata; Oscar and Hazard. But that would be up top Jose to decide.

Flopess?

Some of our fans are real c**ts tbh.

Luckily this is a Torres thread so anything can be said, even by the lemons (do not show any guilt, no names need to be mentioned).

If say Jose comes here, and recognises that Torres plays better being played more direct,(Getting the ball to him quicker), because after all the 95% of detractors on here are only a voice, i have heard nothing about Torres going just a lot of praying, what will you lot do, stop supporting, change allegiance, doubt it will happen, but if Jose comes, and Torres stays you can bee sure the conversations have been about persevering with Torres, and changing the Mazacar..

Bring forth youtr best, this is what debates on forums are about....

Give the guy some kudos- he finally contributed something big in our history (Nou Camp aside)- his goals won us a major competition.

Yep. The question, imo, isn't 'how much did we pay?'. Now, it should be 'what was his goal worth?'.

I don't mean in money: last night's trophy is a real result for your season - it'll always be there and is far more tangible than Arsenal's umteenth CL qualification. The memories of last night - how can they be measured by cost?

It's glory and, respectfully, how anyone today can go on about cost, selling, etc. is beyond me.

I know I follow Spuds but had to get that off me chest...

he got us 1 hand on the trophy yesterday so fairplay to him, i thought he was gonna

choke going round Artur or let the defender have enough time for a goal line clearance

but again congrats to him for a super goal that counted big time

seems to have found his niche in the thurs night comp, but in the prem

which is the clubs bread & butter he seems all but finished

hes gonna stay because hes on such high wages & again says he wants to,

we just have to accept that, time for this thread to end perhaps ?

He may not have won a trophy but I'm not really sure if that is what determines if a striker has 'pedigree'. Alan Shearer only had one major trophy in his long career but he had far more 'pedigree' than numerous strikers who have winners medals by the tonne.

Shevchenko had won the lot and had plenty of 'pedigree' but we all know what happened there.

I would say a better indicator for 'pedigree' would be goals scored in the league in question and on that front Torres was a proven goal scorer.

'Floppes' ..... still not funny, but unsurprisingly better than your more recent attemt to be funny with 'Poorres'.

You sure are the joker around here....

Torres did well and scored an important goal.

That still doesn't make up for the last two and a half seasons of mostly hopeless performances.

I'm happy that he helped the team win the cup, but it doesn't change my view of him.

Yep; I understand the view - I just mean give the guy a break...at least the day after his contribution.

Dare I say it, he was our player of the tournament.

Superb goal return in the Europa League and a very classy finish last night

His league goal tally this season still isn't good enough but a massive well done to him for last night.

He was definitely our player of the tournament

From Skysports:

Torres praised the Chelsea supporters for their patience this term, with him personally and with the team.

"I have no complaints about the fans. Not at all," added Torres. "They have been with me from the first day, especially when I most needed from the first season

Looks like that rules him out of the running for players that read the shed end.......
