2 of our most iconic players of the last decade have just left the club and due to our recent transfer activity, it's made the disappointment easier to contend with. Petr Cech will always be remembered as another iconic Chelsea player, but times move on and we now want to bring in new, younger blood. We cannot keep leaving our top youngsters out on loan for 2/3 years at a time; they need a chance to prove themselves amongst the best this squad has to offer. It is what it is.

nvm. I get it now.

Only heard the very end of the Courtois interview, but heard him say "Whatever happens, I do not play on the bench". Anyone catch it all?

Well of course you don't play on the bench....you play on the field, and sit down on the bench.

I've started edging towards Cech in recent weeks. He is a winner, strong personality around the dressing room and lives and breathes Chelsea. We have lost a few of this type recently , they are very hard to replace. Courtois worries me a little, he is undoubtably a good keeper who could go on to be a great. He though as yet has shown very little positivity to his parent club, his latest comments that HE will decide his future after the world cup. We don't need players who don't want to be here , maybe he now has a preference to living in Spain to the UK. If this is so we will have to take it on the chin and get the best possible price for him and move on. The next few weeks will be interesting and the outcome is that we will have a top class keeper no matter who eventually gets the jersey.

I don't know how any player feels that competing for his place in the team is beneath him. I think there's place for both. Courtois would get his chances and if he plays blinder after blinder he'll get the same reward that Cech got in 2004. Or is he afraid that the only thing he's better in than Cech is talking?

Cech is kind of a leader, he's a great goalkeeper and was an important part in the team, but when you got the same goalkeeper, just younger, then I'd prefer the younger one.

Cech is still imporant for Chelsea, but Chelsea can't lose Courtois. This boy can be the one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and Chelsea must have one like him. If Cech looks straight to keep playing as first goalkeeper then he won't get that in Chelsea. As a Chelsea fan I'm sad to say that, but Chelsea have to think about the future. Cech will never be forgotten, and I think we all love him and respect him doesn't matter when. I think Chelsea should keep him as a teacher for Courtois, and let him play F.A Cups and English Cups. Also, let's not forget about Jamal Blackman, his future is great as well.

He already is.

The thing about Courtois that worries me, is he's very outspoken and has no affiliation toward our club at all. Who's to say we don't give him the #1 shirt and then in a couple of years he f**ks off to Real Madrid or Barcelona or someone...

Well to be fair, why would a goalie who has never played for our club feel an affiliation for it yet?  Im sure we could of said the exact same thing of Cech before Cudicini got hurt and Cech took over.  We've done ourselves few favours in this regard by keeping him at another top European club for so long, especially one as well supported as AM. Its only logical he has stronger emotions for them.  Kind of like how children of the uber wealthy and ultra busy probably feel a stronger connection with their nanny than their actual biological parents.  We care more about those who are physically around to take care of/help/bond with us than the near faceless entity who cuts the cheques

My thoughts precisely, even when he is being tipped to take the place of a legend he shows us very little respect.

none of the players we buy has affiliation to the club,

every player I know wants to play for RM or Barcelona once in his carreer,

if outspoken means the best goalkeeper in the world says he wants to be our number 1, that's fine with me

People said the same thing about Hazard when he joined.

Cech is still dodgy on diagonal crosses and since his injury he is still a great keeper but hasn't been at his complete best on a consistent basis. It will be a tough decision for the club, maybe we keep them both until the January window to see whether Courtois has what it takes in the PL if not quite up to scratch then loan him out for the remainder of the season.  Sell Cech on (unless he wants to stay) for the 2015-16 season.  At some point Courtois will be the CFC goalkeeper or we have to sell him on an make a huge profit.

Thibaut Courtois: Jose Mourinho says keeper will return to Chelsea

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will return to Chelsea after three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid.

The 22-year-old helped the Spanish side to the La Liga title this season and a place in the Champions League final.

But the Chelsea boss ended speculation the Belgian will stay in Madrid.

"When the World Cup is over, Courtois will come straight back to Stamford Bridge - end of story," he said on a charity visit to the Ivory Coast.

Courtois played against his parent club in the Champions League semi-final, before his side lost to city rivals Real Madrid in the final.

He is currently preparing for Belgium's opening Group H game against Algeria on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Mourinho has confirmed the Blues remain keen to sign Atletico's Spain international striker Diego Costa.

Chelsea had wanted the 25-year-old to complete a £32m move to Stamford Bridge prior to the World Cup in Brazil.

That deadline was not met, though Mourinho is undeterred in his effort to sign the player, who featured in Spain's 5-1 defeat by the Netherlands on Friday.

"I am extremely confident we are going to get him and he'll end up signing for Chelsea," said Mourinho.

"Costa is a player I want in my team. I've asked the club to bring him in."

The Brazil-born forward scored 36 goals in 52 games for Atletico this season, their first La Liga title since 1996.

He said he's coming back after the World Cup which we already knew, not that he'll be staying for next season, given Jose's choice of words I wouldn't read too much into it.

Bingo, if we know one thing about Mourinho it's that he plays games with words. I think he'll be here for the pre season and they'll look at Cech's injury and make a decision. Ideally id like cech to be around for another season but we can't risk losing Courtois. Sentimentality has no place in modern football, look at Fergies success over his career, he knew when to move players on.

We also should be able to allow out players to move on without feeling like we discarded them or that we are sullying their memory or some BS. Cech will move on and play for another massive club for 4-5 years and we can enjoy his success. This isn't about ditching him or choosing a younger model.

Do you really think Courtois comes over during pre-season just to have a nice chat and then leaves after tea-time?

What do you think he does in pre-season while everyone else is training?
