March 31, 201412 yr It's that level of pride, passion and determination we need from the whole team... Not just the back 4.
March 31, 201412 yr It's that level of pride, passion and determination we need from the whole team... Not just the back 4. So Jose needs to figure out which of his players are willing to do that for the club, fans and for him and which ones are not.
March 31, 201412 yr What a bargain he has turned out to be! Jose really has turned him into a world class CB
March 31, 201412 yr I thought he was close to crying in the post-match interview. Really felt for him.
April 1, 201412 yr Does anyone think he's got what it takes to be the captain after Terry retires? Looks to be the only option right now. Luiz and Iva are the only other options yet both aren't nailed on starters for me (or at least, after we buy Shaw, Iva won't be). This season he's stepped up so much and my only concern is whether he can keep it up when JT isn't next to him. And I don't know why but I like the idea of an English captain. I feel like they have a better grasp of the game in this country and how much it means to the fans and this gives them extra incentive to spur on the team. Edited April 1, 201412 yr by Jonty
April 1, 201412 yr Not sure about Cahill being a captain. His performances this season have been nothing short of great but don't see him as a captain type. But a good choice he is nevertheless. If you think about it we are a bit short on personalities. I don't see Oscar, Hazard or Schurrle ever captaining us. Maybe Matic in a few years time...

Doubt he's captain material.
April 8, 201412 yr Brilliant tonight and all season, massively improved and looking world class at the moment
April 8, 201412 yr Brilliant tonight and all season, massively improved and looking world class at the moment Very true
April 8, 201412 yr We are told, quite regularly, that Thiago Silva is the best centre back in the world. Undoubtedly he is a top quality defender but I wouldn't swap Gary Cahill or JT for him. Truly.
April 8, 201412 yr saved our bacon tonight IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PARK, allowing others to press forward...he is proving world class, an excellent buy...very proud and happy for gary c!
April 8, 201412 yr btw if hodgson and the FA were at all fancying the WC they would bring along JT and have the chelsea boys hold the england line
April 8, 201412 yr Lionheart Cahill. He was huge. He's ruled himself out and so has Hodgeson, otherwise, England's first choice pairing no doubt.
April 9, 201412 yr Wasn't there a thread not too long ago about how he "must improve!" Think he is quietly, confidently, doing that every game
April 9, 201412 yr He just needed a run of games. There's a reason why all the teams wanted him!! Sadly, I don't see him as a captain u
April 9, 201412 yr He really is getting better all the time.Same desire and bravery as JT .Playing along side the best has really helped.Good in the opposition box as well.I fully expected his chance to end up in the top corner such is his finishing usually.Well done GC, proper Chelsea player.
April 9, 201412 yr In the top 3 of our best players this season. He has been amazing this season. I disagree with Felipeluis, I think he should be our next captain.
April 9, 201412 yr In the top 3 of our best players this season. He has been amazing this season. I disagree with Felipeluis, I think he should be our next captain. I would like to see it but he's not captain material. Cahill isn't one to issue out orders and take control like a leader does, he likes being told what to do. He's always looked good when paired up with a leader such as Terry, Jagielka for England and Zat Knight during his time at Bolton. When he has to take matters into his own hands and pair up with Luiz or Smalling he looks a lot shakier and error prone, they aren't necessarily bad defenders it's just that Cahill can't control them. Most of Luiz's best performances at CB have come when he's paired up with Terry and I'm sure if he didn't retire form England he would be able to whip the likes of Smalling and Jones into shape.
April 9, 201412 yr I dont buy that at all, Cahill may not be the most vocal, but he is absolutely a leader by his example.

April 9, 201412 yr I dont buy that at all, Cahill may not be the most vocal, but he is absolutely a leader by his example. I couldnt agree more. I think Gary shows what a leader he is on the pitch. Just because he doesnt scream and shout doesnt make him any less of a leader. I actually think he is being lined up to be the new captain. He is doing a lot of the interviews these days and lots of media stuff for the club.
April 9, 201412 yr Him, Ivan and Azpi were absolute bargains. How much did we pay for our back 4? Less than 25 million?
