Makes his performances last season all the more frustrating.

I think it got to a point where I forgot just how good he can be.

Hopeful that he goes into the new season reintegrated and that Conte helps to bring the best out of him.

Maybe we should give him a run at captaincy to get him playing well again. All Jokes aside, I think he needs more responsibilities, too many times last season he was just happy to play the simple pass and let others do the work.

Vice captain will do just fine,terry isn't gonna be first choice anyway so eden will be the captain in most occasions

After seeing that performance, I've become more bemused and baffled as to what happened to him last season.

 

Was it all mental? Was he carrying an injury that no one was aware of?

Definitely carrying an injury. After he had a long rest he looked much better even for us

He had a slight hip injury which removed a lot of explosiveness and was asked to play through it when he wasn't quite fit I read. If true it probably lasted longer as a result as it was never quite healed.

It makes sense as if you're carrying a slight knock you don't want to cause more damage than necessary and something in your hip will take away a lot of power and acceleration. It also may explain why he was brilliant when Gus brought him back into the team.

So much ability and talent yet played like Aaron Lennon last season.

That's the standard he should be aiming to keep to, he knows he can do it so just go out there and do it.

To be fair Hungary's defense wasn't up to par. He was given a lot of space but on the other hand he was so smooth and confident.

I'd say against a regular (for Chelsea) opponent like Crystal Palace he'd find it more difficult to operate than yesterday.

Concerning for me is how he is not very eager to penetrate to oppo box. Yesterday he made some runs there but in general he has all the skills to go past the defender and make some dangerous shots or get a penalty.

He is not exactly trying to do what Ronaldo or Messi are doing. If he wants to get there he needs to be more eager to finish.

Terry won't play enough games this season to be captain, I say give the armband to Hazard and have JT as vice captain, then between them they can lead the team before JT's exit, a sort of hand over season, after all, when fit he is the first name on the team sheet.

Any Chelsea fan that still wants Hazard sold after watching him last night must be seriously mad! £100m would not be enough when he is in that kind of form.

 

Lets forget last season. The whole squad and management were pony. Can't believe that some folk are still trying to suggest that Hazard under-performed on purpose and it wasn't due to injuries etc. When Hazard plays like he did last night and especially in the second half, as the co-commentator rightly pointed out - he was on another level to everyone else. We don't have a player who comes close to reaching that level and it is imperative that we keep him and the new coach gets him playing like that. I wouldn't make him captain but he is our most important player.

With no other suitable candidates for the armband, it couldn't hurt to give it to him a few times in Terry's absence. Rotate it and say it's an audition for anyone who wants to step up to the plate and grab it. Then give it to Mikel.

Not to sure about that, JT is constantly proving people wrong.

As far as Captaincy goes we should not relegate JT to vice captain at all. He is club captain and that should remain, other clubs have done similar where the player may not play every week but he is still the club captain. It's about more than just on the field been a captain of a club.
