The Nathan Ake Thread

Featured Replies

Like others , I fell this is great if we are going to use him however, I don't think we will much, azpi Luiz and cahill are doing well and can't see them being replaced. Especially since zouma back now to. Only way I see him used is a  cover for alonso or if we loan zouma , to get him back to his brst after his injury

I would expect recalling him is as much about Conte getting to see him train, see his attitude etc and see if he can fit our play for next season as much as it's to get cover or even start the next few months.

Really happy for him. I dont think it's any suprise that the 2 youth prospects that seem closest to making here are chalobah and ake, who were both captains and leaders at youth level.

Hopefully this is a boost for the rest of the loan army, that if you put in strong perfomances and remain patient, there is a root into the 1st team.

We have been in this position before, where we could've recalled lukaku, but we signed ba, and we could've recalled piazon, but we signed Salah.

Hopefully this works out to be a long term solution.

Interesting development.

I'm a little worried that this will hinder his development after making good progress at Bournemouth, but I trust that Conte has a plan for him for the second half of the season.

This just suggests to me that Conte never actually got to have a good look at Ake and had next to no say in the decision to loan him out. If I recall correctly Ake was loaned out before Conte even arrived.

Anyway, he's rightfully back in the squad.

It's on the Chelsea site so all confirmed. He was doing well for Bournemouth so I hope he gets some games for us rather than sitting on the bench or in the reserves.

I guess he'll mainly rotate with Alonso as left wing-back.

Bournemouth will be gutted but I am sure they were aware it could happen..feel for them though

Well based on how Terry, Zouma and Ivanovic played today I can see why Conte might have wanted Ake back.

Questionabke performances by all three, Zouma needs time to recover from his injury and I wouldn't want to rely on him being selected.

Terry and Ivanovic just don't have the legs to play in a back three by the looks of it.

Smart move maybe to bring in a player who is performing well in defence in the Premier League this season.

Let's see how conte will use him. If he gets a good amount of game time then a good choice to recall him. If all he is is a backup to Alonso then he would have been best served to stay there playing regular pl games.

What I like is it stop us going out and unnecessarily spending money. Just think if he makes it and we also bring back Christensen next season we could save ourselves around £60mil as we wouldn't need to buy to strengthen in that area.

Conte said the following after the Petersbough match about Ake:

"Nathan Ake has been recalled from loan because he has shown he deserves to be in the Chelsea squad.

Ake could play in the back three or midfield and he will look in training to see if he could also play wing-back."

Wouldn't be surprised if he's going to be Conte's fouth choice CB already. Ivanovic and JT are clearly not up to it anymore, and Zouma looked very very rusty today. Don't really see him starting any league games for a while.

Recall Ake could be a good move if Conte plans to play him. If he's going to sit on the bench and play the 2 minutes cameo every fortnight, we may as well let him stay. I reckon he could do a job at LWB, cracking the CB spot maybe a bit too challenging right now.

Good move. Always liked the look of Aké, even from the limited appearances he made for us under Benitez. I remember we had to beat Everton on the last day of the season to ensure CL qualification and he did a solid job in DM.

I think he'll primarily come in as cover across CB, DM and maybe even LWB. Conte more or less stated that this would be the case after the game today. We clearly needed more depth at LWB and in midfield as well, and I'd rather we use the potential of Aké in this multi-functional role rather than paying inflated January transfer fees for average squad fillers. It would probably have been best for Aké, though, to stay at Bournemouth, but given how great a chance we have of winning the League it makes sense to bring him back.

Zouma is pretty much a RCB only, theres no way he can play on the left, he is poor enough on his right foot. Aké however is very natural on the ball, hes an excellent passer and a left foot to boot. His versatility allows him to llay at leadt 4-5 positions. Very handy to have a player like that

I can understand why Conte would do this.

Our normal Back 5: Moses-Azpi-Luiz-GC-Alonso, can now be tampered to make it far more solid defensively with Azpi-GC-Luiz-Ake-Alonso or Azpi-Zouma-Luiz-GC-Ake.

The spurs game showed some of our deficiencies.

Alonso not being great defensively and 2 short heighted defenders on the right (moses and azpi). I remember when we were 1-0 up against United and zlatan had a very similar oppurtunity, a cross from the left flank to expose azpi aerially. Ake gives us options and a lot of them. Not just as a LCB/LWB but I think he is a far more suitable replacement to LUIZ than GC/Zouma/JT/IVA. Lets be fair, Iva and JT are done. I wont trust them against HUll at the bridge with the title on the line. Ake should be our 1st/2nd choice LWB, 4th choice CB.

I may be the only one who's half expecting to see him play regularly.

Alonso will be dropped, Azpi to play on the left wing and Ake to play as a centre half, I wouldn't be against that. We'd be alot more solid defensively.

I think Conte is vying him more as a LWB as he isn't overly confident on Alonso.

I reckon he'll be a bit part player for a while, but Conte behind the scenes will be working hard to see how he is at LWB. However it's great to have a versatile defender like Ake.

More defensively solid than conceding just 6 goals in 14 games? (Having only lost one of those)

Based on what exactly, the 13 games in a row we won after putting Alonso into the starting XI?
