Surprised he’s still here tbh. Fully expected him to go out on loan today, looks promising.

Maybe Sarri will give him gametime in Europa league. I agree with what most are saying, now really isn’t the time to play conservative, he need to grab the bull by the horns and go for it. It’s his last chance to make it at Chelsea.

He can still go out on loan to a European side

I'm a little bit surprised with some of the comments here. Judge him just for 2 pre-season games after representing Crystal Palace for one season (being a starter there) and representing England in the World Cup is unacceptable.

He is still young and has a lot to learn, but saying he is not good enough or ready isn't correct, give him the time he needs. If Sarri will use him instead of Fabregas, Bakayoko and Drinkwater, then he can be very useful to us this season.

Im not "judging him on two pre season games". i have been watching him since 16 and i just can't see it, and believe me ive tried too, harder than i have with any player ever. Infact the Lyon game summed up what i find annoying about him, he has 1/2 excellent moments in a game when you think "here he is" and then you barely see him from Adam for the next period of the game.

Id love to be proven wrong because ultimately it will benefit the club which is all that matters, but im sorry, in my opinion he's found his level.

I think RLC is in a similar situation to Rashford, I think the latter definitely needs a move.

I'm also surprised RLC did not go as although he always has potential he rarely seems to grab an opportunity.

Our participation in the EL is probably the reason for the likes of RLC, Tammy and Ampadu have stayed.

Think these guys can get 20 start each between EL, LC and early stages of the FA Cup.

Suspect its the homegrown quota issue, RLC is needed like Tammy & Rob Green etc. to fulfill that requirement  there's 4 comps and injuries so I expect him to stay and get game time

His plus points:

1. Very good first touch.

2. Comfortable on the ball for a big man.

3. He is a big man.

4. Most of our midfield are midgets which makes point 3 more relevant.

His minus points:

1. Not an athlete.

2. No pace.

3. Points 1 and 2 above means he doesn't cover ground well.

4. Points 1 and 2 above means he tackles like Paul Scholes.I

Not sure he is gonna make it.

Agree he isn't particularly an athlete but he certainly has pace. His burst of pace is what makes his dribbling so good to get away from a man.

Good thing he doesn't play winger or striker then. RLC has talked about modelling his game on Ballack (who RLC is faster than, although that's not to say he's a better player).

Pace is the one thing he doesn't lack. Intensity maybe?

Yes - different types of pace / speed, and I agree with Just that RLC doesn’t seem to cover a lot of ground. Interesting ‘top speed’ stat there in the article there (and who knows how measured) but does anyone really think of RLC as a winger as per the article? It depends on type of pace and how it is used.  Reminds me of this article a few years ago, with help of ye google.

http://www.espn.co.uk/football/blog/name/93/post/1839828/headline

Written about that years ago win over Man City.

“Back to Chelsea: Their three attacking midfielders Monday night had three separate types of pace. Willian has incredible acceleration over relatively short distances, Hazard has brilliant midrange speed and Ramires is a long-distance speedster.“

RLC does not look fast, but that’s the intensity thing that I think is noticed by multiple people throughout this thread. The appearance of ambling through a game - but when he does break through it is impressive.

But I also have no idea if he’ll make it with us. A puzzling player. I certainly hope he does of course, but can’t say with any confidence whether he will.

Gazza had a fantastic change of pace over a short distance and wonderful close control.

RLC has quick feet but not that burst of speed. It is his size and strength that enables him to carry the ball past people.

I'm not sure about him, but I'd like to see given a chance. Same with Barkley who I thought did well yesterday. The one player I don't want to see in there is Fabregas. He is slower than my missus in her carpet slippers.

I think kovacic will be the man for the job personally.

I think the only comparable attribute between RLC and Gazza is the ability to drift past players. Besides that Gazza was in a different league because he had quality and a football brain, attributes I don't think you can coach - you either have it or you don't. I need to watch the game again so maybe I'm being too harsh but I thought we looked a bit sketchy in midfield after he came on yesterday.

To be fair Gazza was in a different league to most central midfielders.

You're comparing wingers to a CM. For a CM, RLC has pace.

Lampard didn't have pace.

Gerrard didn't have pace.

Iniesta doesn't have pace.

Zidane didn't have pace.
