Diego "the guv'nor" Costa

Featured Replies

I had a laugh when I was watching Costa want to be taken off, he's like - I'm about the hit that f*, get me off now! He got a good point, but so did Conte. I thought Conte handled it well, last thing we want is a headline story of  'Costa wants off'.

Thanks to some Spanish lip readers, it's come out that Costa was getting fed up with Conte shouting at him all game and the gesture was more along the lines of 'If you don't like it, sub me off'.

Although Costa shouting back at Conte probably wasn't a good idea I can understand the reaction a bit. I imagine I would get would up too if my boss was shouting at me all day at work, even when the the job is going well and your comfortable.

True, but professional sportsman is one of the rare jobs where you'd expect your boss to be shouting a lot.

The key bit is IF the job is going well. yes we were winning and Costa scored, but if he is not doing what the manager wants him to be doing then he isnt doing his job. A new manager means a new way of playing, so all players will need to be open to adapting. It's all very well and good Costa thinking he is playing well, but if he isn't playing the way the rest of the team are set up to play then he's obviously going to anger Conte.

I think it's a storm in a teacup personally, but it is a worry that Costa disrespects the management so blatantly. Just get your head down, work hard and shut up.

There were reports in the Spanish sport press (in Marca, so I would take it with a pinch of salt plus I can't find it any longer) that the confrontation went on after the match and Costa shouted and confronted Conte in the changing room, to the point that some others had to intervene. As I say, it comes from Marca, so don't take it literally.

I don't care who you are any disrespect to the Manager and your on the bench the next few matches listen to what the manager ask of you

just the next few matches? and everything would pan out the way you think it would?  showing off authority?

if you're playing hard ball against the big ego, most of the times things will go south.. you know little about costa if you think he will get intimidated by such action..

I must say, I always thought he was a one trick pony.  Very good at that trick, but limited in many aspects.

I've been impressed by his athleticism this season and he is effing dangerous anywhere around the box

True. Manager also manage a player's fitness and minutes. It's for everybody's good.

Poor from him not to get a goal in a 4-0 win.

However at least it shows that the team are not reliant on him to score goals as we have goals coming from all different players in the team. Anyway, Costa can be forgiven. 7 goals and 2 assists. Brilliant start to the season for him.

Because no player to ever play the game has managed that. If a player like that appears one day then i hope he ends up playing for Chelsea

HAHA :JC_doubleup: :JC_doubleup:

Conte and Costa are passionate characters, a bit of heated exchanges are to be expected.

Costa will be more frustrated than anyone not to be scoring in a 4-0 victory....plus that big goal scoring bonus!

i agree maria, i hate strikers not just costa but all strikers in general including those who have retired or dead who doesn't average minimal a goal per game

you have one job!!

So? Costa still should've scored to keep his form going, nothing against him he's been good this season but he can get very frustrating to watch out of form, which is why we need him on it all the time.

I cant be 100% certain but I think he probably was possibly maybe trying to score. sometimes it just doesn't happen. saying he should have scored is like saying I should have won the lottery to maintain my enjoyment of solid gold toilets.
