Andreas Christensen

He changed his play style pretty drastically the last 2 games, it's like he's David Luiz now with how far he comes out of the back. He never really got done by Antonio in a 1v1 duel but that style of play is dangerous with 2 CBs.

When you combine that with how high Alonso was playing in the end, there's no surprise how we conceded that last goal.

For the second goal, he completely stopped and ball watching when he should have tracked back and put something on that cross. He got away with it last couple of games without facing a real 9, against a fast Antonio he was left chasing shadows and looked like a player out of his league.

I don't understand why we were so open for their third goal. I know we were pushing for the winner, but a point is better than nothing. With the way that third goal played out, you would think we were desperately chasing a last minute equaliser.

The player doesn't even have to be very good, like Antonio today.

Shows just how poor we were. Because I felt like it was Rudiger who Antonio had on skates, while Christensen was just missing.

I swear I feel like every shot on target is a goal. I'm right more than half the time. That's scary.

My 10 YO plays goalie. And I have better faith him him stopping a shot. He's gonna be about 6'4/210, I'll send him to Chelsea about the time Kepa's contract expires.

I'm not meaning to place this all on Kepa obviously. It's a collective failure.

David Luiz was definitely the wrong guy for that Arsenal defense, but we're worse without his aerial ability.

I still believe he is a very good defender but he requires leadership from his CB partner.

Doesn't help that his left back generally leaves him isolated but I'm not going to blame Alonso, that's his most likely how he's instructed to play and he plays is very well for the most part.

You cannot be 'technically good' if you switch off and watch the ball as much as he does.

He doesn't have much strength, so he needs to be almost perfect technically.

WHU 2nd goal shows he isnt as aware as he should be, if he is technically good he looks over his shoulder several times, checking constantly whats behind.

The 3rd goal he has no strength to push Antonio off the ball, and then makes the technical mistake of not going with him after the failed challenge.

Huge question marks have now appeared as to whether he is ever going to be good enough for a top club.

If we were to replace Rudiger with a top WC defender, then maybe Andreas will come good, but no way he will improve with Rudiger, who is technically awful.

I don't share hope that if only Christensen adds some muscle he's going to improve as a defender, although I used to think that too in the past.

His problem is more mental than physical. He's too timid, has no aggressive side to him and that's something I doubt will ever change. It's one thing to try and fail and quite another to hide from the challenge because you don't have it in you. I wouldn't want him here even as a back-up, he's no fighter and never will be.

Completely switched off multiple times in that second half. I would still play him ahead of Rudiger, but neither are good enough to start regularly if we want to challenge for a title.

Not only is he bad as a player, he is also really really stupid. Can't decide which defending was worse tactically - the one against Antonio or the one against Benteke.

What happened in 95th minute? Where was he? Wasn't that his area to defend? 2-3, 95th minute and his area was wide opened?

Sell this joke of a player right now.

Tried my absolute best to stick up for him and give him the benefit of the doubt, but I simply cant anymore. For every good game, he has about 5 bad ones. Just not good enough, just sell him off to the highest bidder.

Sad but true. #sell

While some of the criticism is harsh (he’s definitely the most accomplished on the ball of all our CBs and should get credit for that), I can’t argue with the crux of it on here - primarily the tendency to get bullied by the more physical attacking players. It’s really not what you want in a CB. But I’m keeping the faith for now. I guess it comes down to whether one sees promise, believes he can change / improve or not. I still do, so am not in favour of selling aged 23.

Zouma saved him a couple of times and I could easily blame him for the second goal.

to be fair Benteke would bully a lot of CBs .. he is 6-4 and built like a rock.. but he should be able to figure out a way to play by now against taller/stronger opponents... he is not a young kid now.. i think that really affects his game ... for the second goal he committed and did nothing... tbf thought Reece's flank was so porus most CBs would have struggled.. for the last one though i think he made the wrong decision to try and follow the runner wide.. 95th minute you defend your box..

He reminds me a little bit of Pique, he may just be an amazing player in Laliga but to make a career here.... a lot of work needs to happen..

To be fair to Christensen on the Benteke chance he had 2 to cover in the left winger and the striker, unfortunately he was dragged out wide by the winger which was where his bad decision was, he really should have made sure Benteke was picked up but I suppose at the time we were all over the place defensively.

They should have left Zouma slap him. It clearly is what he wants but hm, you know... modern football.
