City have burned through players and cash in a way we never did. How many players have they bought for huge amounts and then just dumped? Now they've spent nearly half a billion in just 2 years, and show no signs of stopping any time soon. We can't realistically compete with that. If we want to start spending more, we need a new stadium and that's going to require sacrifices.

The family wealth is many many times more than that.

February 5, 20188 yr Tired of the same issues every few years. Board has to take bug responsibility for letting players go and bringing in sgit / injured replacements, but conte obviously wants to be fired now, poor tactics, poor team selections, endless cowardly / defensive performances, no motivation from any players. He will be gone as soon as we slip out of the top 4 and the CL.

Came in, saved the club from bankrupcy, bought in players and managers we could never have dreamed of, brought the title back to the bridge for the first time in 50 years, and showered us with trophies since including the biggest prize in club football. Oh and he's about to build us a huge new iconic stadium that will be one of the true landmarks of world football. This is the bloke we're going to moan at about not investing enough?
February 5, 20188 yr We have spent money this season. More than United and second only to Man City. Net spend we haven't spent a lot but we have not been shackled financially as the funds are available with the player sales. The problem is we keep buying average players in bulk rather then a higher caliber of player for a larger single outlay. Compare to De Bruyne/Pogba: Pogba - £89m + agent/signing on fees(£10/15m) + wages £300K = £50m per year (5 year contract) Bakayoko/Drinkwater/Barkley - (£40m+£35m+£15m) + agent/signing on (£12m) + wages (£100K x3) £300K = £50m per year De Bruyne - £60m + agent/signing on (£10/15m) + £250K = £39.5m per year Roughly the same price but the quality of player is much worse. This happens with all of our signings, we buy average players in bulk of single investments in great players. We spent £200m this season on 8 players. Split that into four first team players to replace the weak points in the squad (Making current first team players squad options) in these positions: CM, ST, LWB, RW. Morata - £60m Baily/Salah - £35m Fabinho - £40m Sandro - £65m And kept the youth (Ake, Chalobah and Loftus-Cheek). There you have improvements in every position and a squad that can compete with any in Europe. But alas we buy average players instead and whine about not having any money.

When Jose kept playing Ivanovic he at least had a lethal attacking threat, Baka offers nothing, it’s like playing with 10 men. Jose/Ivan i could somewhat understand because as poor as the Serb became, Baba was even worse. This time however underperforming players are getting picked over superior alternatives.

I’m not being ungrateful, I’m just making a point on how so many people on here act like Abramovich has no money. He’s the 2nd richest owner in the league.

I really hope UEFA clamp down at some point, things are getting totally out of hand.

Our finances are dumb. We should comfortably make more revenue then Arsenal and Liverpool for this year yet we only made a couple more million then the latter and quite a bit less then the former. Something is seriously wrong with the clubs revenue. It's weird.

February 5, 20188 yr I didn't want Conte to go before today, but I can't see how he's going to come back from this. 2 heavy beatings by 2 bang average teams. The fire has gone in him. There is no passion in him anymore, he's nowhere near as intense as he was earlier in the season. Taking Willian off but leaving Pedro on was odd - even Hudson-Odi would have posed more of a threat than Pedro. He seemed content with only losing 1-0, he didn't even throw on a striker to try and get something out of the game until much later on. The way things are at the moment you couldn't blame Hazard if he was thinking of leaving us - he deserves to play in an attack minded team. If it came down to having a new manager who can convince Hazard to stay or losing Hazard but keeping Conte, then I would rather keep Hazard. Edited February 5, 20188 yr by 2211
February 5, 20188 yr Sorry but I lost faith with him tonight, keeps flogging the same tactics week in week out hoping for positive results.
February 6, 20188 yr Maybe he realised now a change in tactics is needed also certain players needs to be benched
