August 19, 20169 yr That sucks, that game should never be on a Friday night, that is a Sunday 16:00 game. Sucks doesn't it ? There won't be a point in 3:00pm Saturday football with the way things are going. The Premier League just fancied 3000 Scallys wandering around London on a Friday Night. The fans have been given no choice in how the wanted the game to develop. Call me a traditionalist but being at ground at 3pm had something special, the whole day, fans travelling length and breadth of the country, meeting up in services, a few pints before the match , half time scores(when everybody played) and many a disappointing result at the end of it. Its what we grew up on, a working class game loved by many. The game changed in 1992 and not all for the better.
August 19, 20169 yr With each passing week and with each thing he comes out with, plus media far more up his arse now he's at Utd, the more I want the individual to fail
August 19, 20169 yr I know it might be a short term move, but why don't we make a move for Jose Fonte? Good pl defender, just won the euros, good operator
August 19, 20169 yr Weird hearing the United fans sing our Jose Mourinho chant. Thought they might have come up with their own song for him...
August 19, 20169 yr I know it might be a short term move, but why don't we make a move for Jose Fonte? Good pl defender, just won the euros, good operator My guess is because our backline is already on its' last legs. JT and Ivanovic are only on 12 month contracts, you wouldn't want to risk 3/4 of the back four all leaving at the end of the season.
August 21, 20169 yr Zlatan was linked to Man U before Mourinho was given the Utd job. It was a no brainer for them.
August 21, 20169 yr Gotta say - The Zlatan move is sheer work of genius.Too early but looks good so far.
August 22, 20169 yr "Is this a library?" Manchester United v Southampton (Fri, 20:00 BST) Visiting fans at Old Trafford like to poke fun at a perceived lack of atmosphere by chanting "Is this a library?" or "It's just like being in church." New Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has attempted to rectify that by calling on the club's supporters to make some noise ahead of his first home game in charge, against Southampton tomorrow (20:00 BST). "If a couple of thousand away can be more noisy than 70,000 at home then we are in trouble," he said in today's media briefing. The problem is, in games such as tomorrow's, they usually are. Surely we can now sing 'Mourinho's right, your fans are sh!te'?
August 22, 20169 yr Gotta say - The Zlatan move is sheer work of genius. Not really Genius. Wherever Zlatan goes he will score a certain amount of goals but the early fixtures have been very kind to Utd - Bournemouth, Southamtpon and add Hull this coming weekend. I'm sure he'll start drawing blanks as the fixtures get tougher and the pitches get heavier. Can't wait until 23rd October. Edited August 22, 20169 yr by Nibs

There won't be a point in 3:00pm Saturday football with the way things are going. Its all business from Sky clearly! Hey it works well for us I think, more streams, and we can always hit the pub after work for a game, something different. Its only now and again
September 23, 20169 yr Jonathan Wilson on the possible decline of José: https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2016/sep/22/jose-mourinho-manchester-united-master
September 23, 20169 yr Fascinating article, I think I agree with many of the points raised. He does seem completely different to how he once was. Managers do slow down and become old. I still think Jose will decent enough success. I can't see him however doing 10-15 years there and winning consistently.
September 24, 20169 yr I think one of Mourinho's biggest problems is that he has stuck to pretty much the same system for so long now. 10+ years playing the same way is going to get found out eventually. Saying that, he has still been pretty successful with that system in those 10 years, he just hasn't been able to keep it going season after season with the same club. I think that had Mourinho come from abroad to take over United, then United would be right up there this season, but because he joined them after playing the same system with us, it's easier for Premier League teams to figure it out. They have seen it for the past 3 years now, they aren't going to let him get away with it when they know how to exploit it.
September 26, 20169 yr I can understand people disliking Mourinho but I don´t really think all the hate he gets now is deserved. No sane person can deny that winning the EPL comfortably with this current squad was a masterpiece of coaching. He made Matic look like the best midfielder in the EPL at times. Made Ivanovic and Cahill look decent. I am still unsure how he did that. He definitly made them overachieve. Yes we were in shambles at the start of last season but type of performances that we have seen since Hiddink and Conte have taken over are a true reflection of what this squad can do. Fight all season to get into the CL. Thats the ceiling at the moment.
September 28, 20169 yr mourinho quotes on juan mata (telegraph) much as I dislike this insane anti mourinho sentiment that is within a small section of our support who place the blame upon him for any and every problem we face, have faced or will face, my take on these words (and previously similar comments on the sales of lukaku and de bruyne) is that he is being completely disingenuous. these players left chelsea as a direct consequence of his management and there is no doubt they left with his total consent. to distance himself from that is surely fooling no-one and whilst I understand why he won't admit to a mistake that doesn't stop it grating.
September 28, 20169 yr @g3.7 If by "disingenuous" you mean a "lying hypocrite" then I agree with you 100%

Is it ok for me to come clean and say I also think Jose is to blame for the way Hazard has had a lull in his game. Mourinho is pretty good at knocking the confidence out of players, Matic and a few others would agree.

Blame him for everything - it's what I do and makes me feel a whole lot better!
September 29, 20169 yr Here's something: Winchester City are at Taunton on 22nd October. Last time Winchester City travelled to Taunton, Jose lost in the league that same weekend.

That was, by the way, Hazard´s only really great season of his career so far. Same goes for Matic, except that our EPL winning season was his only season in which he even looked like a EPL-contender starting caliber player. I really don´t understand how people have turned on Mourinho despite his record at the club. He will always be "the special one". Just look at the lack of success we had without him. We all know the stats. They are obvious. Edited September 29, 20169 yr by reparto corse
September 29, 20169 yr It is a bit embarrassing really the way Mourinho is now suddenly the reason everything turned to sh*te, I still suspect a number of players were more to blame. The fact Jose won the league with a squad that is now universally considered on this forum to be sh*te and in need of a major overhaul shows just how good he was. Unfortunately he set such lofty expectations for himself in the first half of our title winning season that it was impossible to meet them in the next, particularly when the board failed to do their job and sign anyone useful. Only thing you can (maybe) blame him for is moving on KDB, but again who knows if he was being petulant of it it was Jose. If KDB couldn't handle being dropped when his form was poor then while it is very much our loss, I can't blame Jose for wanting to be rid of him, and I can think of another fairly successful PL manager who had a track record of not allowing players to be bigger than the team or manager. Unfortunately our board was not as supportive or loyal as his was. Edited September 29, 20169 yr by Jonty

He made us content for the league and got within 4 points of Manchester City without having even one decent striker on the team. It is painfully obvious that he made us overachieve for 2 of the 2 1/2 he was here. Yet people hate him for that.
