September 1, 20169 yr If we end up playing 3 at the back, I can see him being given a bit more license to go forward into the midfield and support Kante when we attack.
September 1, 20169 yr Very clever signing from Conte, the way i see it, Conte has a player who can be involved in his plans, maybe not his plan A, but he will be involved, unlike a few other signings we have purchased recently, nothing worse than buying a player who never plays. Luiz will offer something Conte is craving for, a deep ball player, whether that be in midfield or at the back I don't know, but either way Conte gets the ball player. His defending can be erratic, and I'm sure Conte knows this, Conte's no mug. He knows what Luiz can give us, and he thinks we need it, so I'm going with him on this one.
September 1, 20169 yr Conte spoke about the ridiculous money being demanded for medium players. Taking back Luiz (although returns to Chelsea haven't often proven that great) is a sensible and pragmatic move. He comes with a certain reputation but he is a fine footballer at his best and comes with a great personality. I'm cautiously optimistic.
September 1, 20169 yr I don't think he will be missed in Paris http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/706076/David-Luiz-PSG-Chelsea-CFC-Transfer-News-Rumours-Gossip
September 1, 20169 yr Don't know where i really stand on this signing tbh lots of good views and opinions for and against so iam just gonna be a true blue and welcome the geezer back and wish him all the best....KTBFFH
September 1, 20169 yr I'm actually surprisingly happy about this signing, when I heard the rumour first I sort of facepalmed, but the more I think about it the more I think it could actually prove to be an inspired signing. Luiz adds a dimension to our central defence that we have been lacking since he left (no not a fluffy mop of hair). He's a football player first and foremost, a defender second, but he adds that extra element of danger from a deep position since his technique is amazing and he can pick out long passes or dribble out from defence. Now, before, we would lament when he'd go on his mazy runs from the back, fearing that he would lose the ball and be caught out of position. But that was before we had a real ball-winner in midfield to cover for him, something that Kante provides now, and with Zouma and his abundance of pace coming back soon, Luiz may be allowed more freedom to do what he does best, which is play with the ball. There is also now the second option of playing with a back 3, since with Luiz and Zouma in there, we have the pace and power to actually pull it off. Plus, in a back 3, as we have seen with Conte's previous teams, there needs to be a ball-playing defender. Bonucci provided that, and now we have a player with similar (I might even say superior) ball skills to provide that outlet from defence. Conte is no mug, he's got serious managerial acumen, so he's obviously seen something in Luiz that he likes and feels the pros of his game outweigh the cons. Or else i'm stupid, Luiz is a donkey, and the board just panic bought a central defender and left Conte holding his dick in his hand. But I like to think that the other explanation is more likely

I think I remember that's where he played for us, but I'm a little hazy on that, and I was drinking until 4am and am currently sitting sh*tfaced at my desk in work, so ignore me if I'm talking sh*te
September 1, 20169 yr For me the best part of it is we have the players to use in several systems that we didn't before, my fear was always this: we have a bad day get slaughtered and the players think "here we go again" and their heads drop, with a new manager, new faces and a new system it freshens thing up all round and it will be easier to bounce back from a bump in the road if they are buying into a new philosophy, easier to get their heads down and back to work, this is all just more tools for Conte on and off the pitch. Also people saying things like "oh personality la-di-da, not going to help Luiz defend' etc etc. Don't underestimate what a big personality does in the changing room at half time on a tough day or before a big match, I still believe having Drog in the dressing room contributed greatly to us winning the title 14-15. Football is as much psychology as it is kicking a ball. Edited September 1, 20169 yr by DonAntonio

At PSG he tended to play on the left of Thiago Silva. I don't think Zouma is a particularly natural fit in a back three; he's still by far the weakest on the ball out of the five senior centre backs currently on our books. I think I am right about the personnel Conte would choose in a back three, and I am certain Ivanovic would be the right-sided of the three, however thinking about it you may well be right about Luiz playing on the left. I think he would be more naturally inclined than Terry to spread wide when in possession. Good call on the drinking, I was tempted to have a breakfast beer this morning but I gave it to my mate who seemed like he might need it more.

And where the hell does Alonso fit into this? Hopefully he is just a back-up meanwhile, Alonso goes on the left with azpi moving back to the right.
September 1, 20169 yr We didn't spend over £30 million on him being a backup and he didn't leave PSG to sit on our bench. I'm certain he is going to be playing
September 1, 20169 yr I'm not very sure how we can play with 3 at the back using Luiz. Some compare Luiz to Bonucci in their ball play, but certainly Bonucci is twice (or thrice) the defender than Luiz. This would leave us playing with 2 at the back white a few times while Luiz is running god-knows-where out of position. We have Kante to cover ??, but it should be the other way around, the CB should cover for any possible ball going past Kante. I'd be more confortable with 4 as @didierforever has suggested: Azpi - Zouma/Ivanovic - Terry - Alonso But I may be wrong in my appreciation of a defence of 3, and I would like to hear how it would work in your opinion. In any case, maybe Conte will use him alongside Kante instead of Matic (?).

Maybe he needs to play with half a hamstring all the time.
September 1, 20169 yr David Luiz: "I'm delighted to return to Chelsea. We had a fantastic story during my first time at the club and I want to help the team and Antonio Conte achieve a lot of success."
