Zouma is possibly the highest jumper i have ever seen play football, certainly up there with the best, and when he times his jumps right it's a majestic beauty to behold, i miss quality headed goals, for that reason alone he should be in front of Rudiger, they are similar defenders, but Zouma is unstoppable in the air sometimes.

February 16, 20215 yr I don't quite understand the amount of hate Rüdiger gets on here, not only since his alleged role in Lampard's sacking but way before that. Yes he was sh*te last season, but so were Zouma and Christensen. And in the two seasons before that he looked like a really good defender. Also this season he has been pretty good whenever he got the chance to play under Lamps, and under Tuchel he has was faultless apart from his comical own goal, but these things can happen. He's part of a defence that has conceded one goal in the last 5 league games and people still moan in the match day threads whenever he's in the starting line up. I'm not saying the guy is world class or anything and if we get the chance to upgrade on him, I would go for it. But I believe he gets a disptoportionate amount of stick from Chelsea fans, and that he is currently in the team on merit.
February 24, 20215 yr A lot of noise have been around Rudiger since the beginning of the season. I was supporting Lampard's choice to play Silva and Zouma together, they were looking good and when Rudiger had his games he wasn't better. All this rumors about him wanting Lampard to leave and destroying the dressing room, a lot of things around him. I think since Tuchel arrived and put the faith on him, he definitely pays him back with his performances. He's looking good, he might make one mistake in a game but then recover it immediately. He's aggressive and has passion in him, he's there to fight for the team and especially yesterday. Every time Suarez came on him, Rudiger won 90% of the situations except one. He became much better defender and after all I'm happy to have him in a good form. I believe he deserves some credit.

That’s not strictly true though is it? Him and Alonso almost made a massive c**t of it against Atleti which let Suarez get in and square it to Lamar who IMO should have got on the end of it. If that goes in it’s a different game. It shows how important the end product of a mistake is to how people remember it. Christensen made a mistake against Barca that led to a goal about 4 years ago and it’s still talked about & used against him. Alonso & Rudiger look like the chuckle brothers a week ago and because it doesn’t result in a goal it’s forgotten about. He’s playing well at the moment & deserves his place, his cross field switch to Callum (I think?) for the ball he put across the face for Giroud was terrific. His professionalism has been questioned and when it’s a player who IMO is average, like Rudiger against a club legend like Lampard, there was only ever going to be one winner. That’s why I believe a lot of people turned against him.

But he has lapses of concentration every game. The one you mention I pointed out to in Alonso’s topic. But against ManU he and Chilwell, but mostly down to Rudiger, let the ball go out for a throw in by misunderstanding each other. It did not create a goal chance but similar to that other game (can’t remember who we were playing against) when he gave a stupid corner towards the end of the game and they scored from that corner. He needs to start being more focused or he’ll become the next David Luiz.
March 3, 20215 yr Happy Birthday to him, 28 years old today! Hopefully there’s a slightly belated present tomorrow, with a win at Anfield!😀

Worryingly, he seems to lose control when ‘other’ things happen and gets dangerously close to hands/fists in the face of an opponent - I’m thinking Suarez v Atletico and again on Sunday with McTominay v mancs. Never mind the cho possible pen, rudi came just as close, imo ? He had his hands in McTominay’s face, I’m surprised he didn’t fall down, others definitely would have - he may have been sticking up for a team mate, but there’s a squillion cameras watching and recording your every move - it’s silly these days and especially in the penalty area !!!!

That's a good shout re Rudiger being a red card risk through not being able to control his over-reaction to something he thinks is unfair yet not necessarily the ref. I thought the McTominay contact was playing with fire and we got lucky.

Had McT gone to ground, I can visualise Fernandes and Fred screaming at the ref to red card Rudiger and award the penalty - in this instance they may have succeeded?

Red card maybe but because the ball was out of play I don't think a penalty can be given.
