Antonio Rudiger

Featured Replies

I gave him man of the match simply for that wonder hit but of you take that away he was only above Alonso and perhaps Mendy and Werner in terms of display.

This is why he cannot play in a back 4. Brentford exposed him time and again. He looked like the Lampard Toni.

Don't know if people have noticed his passion and anger in the end of the game.

Yeah, he slipped in the second goal, but I think his performance was fantastic. His mentality is something that we must have in the squad, he's a real winner.

We need him with us as much as he can perform at the top.

Agreed.

that's football 💔

but he needs to sign on, i don't care what we have to do. rent Lukaku out to do chores or let Mason Mount start an Only Fans and use that money to get Rüdi a new deal

I'm not going to say that if Rudiger was playing against Arsenal, we were winning the game, but I can say that see him on the pitch gives us a lot of more than just defensive ability.

His partnership with Thiago Silva is good enough to play in 4 defensive line, but especially when we play 3 in the back.

It looks like we don't have the confidence without him to play some proper buildup, push forward with the ball, create something special to the final third, leadership + communication in behind.

I'm sure that Nketiah could play in the same way against Rudiger like he played tonight. I'm pretty sure he would be winning all the aerial duels around him.

For the next season we have to give Rudiger a new contract and sign a world class CB next to Rudiger and Thiago Silva, let's hope all the situation in the world will end till then and we will have the ability to buy and sell in the transfer market.

Strong rumours he’s off to Madrid. Not going to lie I’m going to be extremely bitter if Rudiger leaves us for free this summer, everybody loves him here and we can offer trophies, there’s no reason for him to leave.

Reports are that he lowered his demands but nothing has yet to be agreed. Fully expecting him to resign once new ownership is established.

Looking more likely to leave.

The squad has gone from needing 2 or 3 additions last summer, to now requiring an entire back line, rejuvenating the midfield, and fuxing the attack!

Feel sorry for Tuchel tbh.

Blame the government. If they didn't tie our hands, we would have offered him a contract by now.

We had long enough to tie him down and we didn’t. We only have ourselves to blame.

How on earth did we let ourselves into this situation? Really awful planning. We only signed 1 player last summer and it cost us 100m. He’s now another problem. What if we spent that 100m on securing contracts and increasing squad depth, such as wing backs?

I thought so too before Di Marzio said it’s looking likely that he’ll go to Madrid. I’d be gutted to see him go as that’s another £40+ to spend on another CB when we already needed one

Tuchel thought that the squad is already flawless so spending 100m on Lukaku didn't seem like such a bad idea when we just won the CL.

We are not sure what direction the new owners will take us in. One thing we do know is our wage bill is horribly unbalanced and we will take a few years to sort it out. When the likes of Kepa, Lukaku et al earn huge amounts more than players keeping them out of the side it needs to be addressed.

That may mean for a few years we are not competitive at the top level.

Crazy that random supporters can come up with far more sensible plans than the one who's paid millions to run this football club.

Letting Rudiger go is scandalous. We can add it to the list of other scandalous decisions under Marinas reign as director.

We can forget every ambition for next season if he does go. Backline that remains will look scandalous and in need of three top class defenders which will never happen.

Imagine if we offered new contract to Rudi n Chris 2 years ago. There will be protest and outrage everywhere because many2 fans thought our cb were championship level including these 2.

It isn’t though; gets protected in a back 5, once you switch to a back 4 he looks average. He has been leaving on a freebie since Jan, & somehow 4mths later he hasn’t signed a contract with none of those linked clubs. It’s either a case of him & his agent overvaluing his qualities, or maybe those linked clubs reckon his flaws in a back 4 make his demands ridiculous.

Not totally fussed if he leaves, if it means getting a defender who is comfortable in a back 4. I don’t think we are getting close to the top 2 unless we switch to a mid 3, & have some presence in the middle of the park. Hypothetically should we cede to his demands & Tuchel leaves in the next couple of years, the next manager in might want to play a back 4. He then becomes an overpaid CB who we can’t shift because of his age & his wages.

It's not really about the government. We could have signed Kounde, we didn't. We could have signed Van Dijk many years ago when we had Conte, but no. We had the chance to build a solid backline and didn't bother. Instead we wasted money on average players and look where that got us. Infuriating how poor this board has been.

I'll be honest, I've never been particularly sold on Rudiger. Before Tuchel and Silva came in, he was far too rash and his positioning was poor.

He still suffers from these problems, but not nearly as much. I still think the pairing with Silva makes him look far better than he is.

But we didn't sign any decent defenders for years. We decided on Rudiger and Luiz to be our backline, which is mad.

Although he won't be as good straight away especially on the leadership side of things we luckily have a ready made replacement from within in Levi Colwill.
